While agree with this and also would have been great with it, to me I had an assumption that any defensive player would come before a WR. That’s not necessarily a criticism or even a robust analysis, but it is the where my head was. Something along the lines of “grab an impact defender or high floor defender before going for either depth WR OR “impact” WR.We discussed it some pre-draft, 2nd or 3rd made sense for a WR because while it's not a need this year, that's a nice spot to find a guy who might need some time. Agholor and Meyers are in the last years of their deals, Bourne and Parker have 2 years, and they could get expensive quick, 4 years at cheap money is valuable.
This feels like a medium risk but high reward WR. I think that type of pick is more a lottery ticket you take after you cement in other best player availables.
Now that said, I’ve also been a little skeptical (or optimistic depending on how you think about it) that BB thought the defense was as bad as it looked to end the year primarily because despite the apparent need for athletes and speed at linebacker and in the secondary, he signed McMillan, he redshirted McGrone, he may still think Uche is legit and for all the apparent secondary weaknesses he could still trust his depth their even if he doesn’t trust the top guys.
