I love the 15th tee box. They ran out of space so it's over a road and a beyond few hedge rows. It might even really be the back tee box for the 11th hole. Anyway, this finish is great.

Guess we know the answer to the question of if his body could hold up during the relentless quest for speed.

Anybody have any success or tips for getting tix to the US Open? I tried in December but got locked out of the ticket release then.

I think it's only secondary market at this point. All the public tickets have been allocated.

Yeah, I kinda figured. If anyone hears anything, or anyone has an extra, let me know! I live like 2 miles from TCC and plan on riding my bike on one or more days, once I procure some tix.

More grumbling about course set up than usual coming out of Bay Hill. Rory had takes, basically saying he doesn't mind bad shots being penal but the good shots were also getting penalized and that's kinda where it crosses the line for him. He thought he played well but it was still a 76-76 weekend. He kinda wondered if the field would weaken if they keep it this way because guys may not want to go through the ringer a week before the Players. Woodland opined that it was the hardest they've played since Winged Foot (2020 US Open).

I thought it was entertaining from an audience perspective to see these guys struggle a bit. Last week was moderately tough (winning score was -10 on PGA National, one of the tougher golf courses on the tour), but pretty much every other course in 2022 so far has had very low scores. I get what Rory is saying, but the course is the same for everybody, and the purse is $12 million, one of the higher non major/Players/Fedex Cup final tournaments of the year. Players will show up.

This may be the toughest stretch of golf for these guys through the year (Riviera/Honda/Bay Hill/TPC Sawgrass).

Rory made some awfully bad shots to be blaming the golf course. I like seeing the players fighting wind and tough pin placements. Some of the iron play into the greens was awfully conservative. If you want to bet on a two putt from 70 feet your success rate may be limited on those greens. Lots of missed less than 15 footers flying by the hole. It's good once in a while to the golf course put up a good fight.

Well they are hitting it to 50 feet away because the greens are so baked out by the end of the tournament that it's basically blind luck to get it any closer, and forget it if they're coming out of the rough. 17 played like 175 on Sunday and it was nearly impossible to hold the green with an 8-iron or whatever on a line at the flag. The only way to get it close is land it in like a 2-foot radius. These guys are good but not that good.

For Rory specifically, I think his issue is the course set up brings in more of an element of luck than normal. They're used to bad luck from time to time but I think at Bay Hill the gumbling is because they have to hit a good shot and and also get lucky.

The NLU recap pod goes into some of this. Harry Higgs is on, and he played it once and won't go back. He's obviously biased and hates the place but sheds some light on some of the players complaints about the setup. Essentially they thing they manipulate the course just for the sake of having high scores.

I guess I don't understand the complaints. Everyone has to play the same course. Yes you're playing against the course, but you're really playing against the field. You don't need to put up a great score TO PAR, you just have to put up a better score than everyone else. And if you're putting up lots of pars and bogeys, that's perfectly fine if everyone else is doing the same thing.

If you win the tournament, it makes no difference either in FedEx points or in money winnings or in the number of trophies in your case if you win at -15 or -5. You don't get bonus points on the PGA Tour for having a lower stroke per round average. You just get points for where you place in the standings week to week. I get that scoring better is more fun, but again, if everyone has to deal with the same issues, what's the big deal?

I do get the "you need to play well and have good luck" part though. But again, that's true for everyone.

Complaining about not being able to hold the green if firing at the pin is a weird complaint. Maybe don't fire at the pin? So sorry if the course isn't set up so you can try to drops irons inside 15' and make a run at birdie on every hole.

It's every shot live week, friends. Say what you want about the tournament, it's probably the best viewing experience of the year.

This could go to Monday. Believe there is weather issues tomorrow and Saturday.
It go to Tuesday to be honest. There are specific provisions in the PGA operating rules to allow the commissioner to extend the tourney past Tuesday only for the Players, too.

With the move back to March my volunteering at The Players ended just short of a decade. I’m just not interested in spending my spring break out there.

This sure isn’t the best of weather weekends here in Jax.

The sun should be back for Sunday with temps climbing through the 40’s and the wind blowing. Any bets on what round they’ll be trying to play?

I'd go with parts of 2&3? Parts of 3 and 4 on Monday. Some guys might be playing 36. Additional hour of daylight. 30MPH winds.
