Agree to disagree on that. And that infield wasn't much better. Why was Daubach in RF? Daubach in left with Lewis in center and Trot in right would’ve been no worse than Manny-Damon-Trot.

You can’t retire here, it’s the retirement thread!nm
taking a day break from here.
Apologies to all.
Yes but could he cut off a ball in short center field thrown from mid-center field? You take that back. No one backed up to catch a fly ball to short right center like Jose Offerman.
A quick google search tells me that Harold Carmichael was presented by his agent, so I don't think so.Don’t you have to be in the HOF to present someone for their HOF speech, hence Bill can’t present Tom, or am I wrong?
People have had their sons and daughters present them all the time. You don't need to be a HOFer to present someone.A quick google search tells me that Harold Carmichael was presented by his agent, so I don't think so.
I thought it was started as a workaround to team rules that said, for example, that you had to finish your career with the team to have your number retired. I agree they are silly — teams shouldn’t need an excuse to welcome back a legend who happened to finish his career someplace else.Am I alone in thinking the one-day contract thing is super dumb? How did that even become a thing?
It’s simple paperwork. C’mon really? The only hiccup is how the process must occur for the Bucs to not take a cap hit which under the unique circumstances can easily be circumvented based on the timing of the official paperwork sometime this summer. How can he even sign a contract if he’s under contract in Tampa?
Please, no. Don't give those idiots the time of dayI wonder if he'll be on Boston talk radio soon, even today (is he good buds with Fauria)? He could also do some damage control on this fallout, even if it's not necessarily warranted
I think what’ll happen is Goodell will offer to cut Brady in half and whatever team says they’d rather give up his rights then see him sliced in two will get to full on retire Tom.It’s simple paperwork. People really believe Tom Freakin Brady is going to retire from Tampa Bay and only mention the Bucs then that’s it. Sheesh.
This deserves a pie to the faceYou can’t retire here, it’s the retirement thread!
Assuming Goodell is as clever as Newman is giving far too much credit to Goodell.I think what’ll happen is Goodell will offer to cut Brady in half and whatever team says they’d rather give up his rights then see him sliced in two will get to full on retire Tom.
OK, but if he does that there's about ten teams who are going to demand they witness the cutting in half in-person so that they don't have to watch him eliminate them in the playoffs againI think what’ll happen is Goodell will offer to cut Brady in half and whatever team says they’d rather give up his rights then see him sliced in two will get to full on retire Tom.
'Good afternoon! Good afternoon!'
Rodney Harrison, Patriots safety, 2003-08: "This was when I first got to New England, we had become friends and we were in the weight room. I show up around 6:30 in the morning and he says to me, 'Good afternoon!' So the next day, I get the hint, and come in 15 minutes earlier. Same thing: He says, 'Good afternoon!' Then the next day it's 5:45 in the morning, and he makes sure to say it twice: 'Good afternoon! Good afternoon!' So I make it at 5:30 the next day and before he could say anything to me, I looked at him and said, 'Man, I don't give a damn what you say, Tom, I'm not coming in earlier than 5:30!' We both laughed at that."
Believe that's correct. Also, IIRC, Walter Payton's son presented him.IIRC, Verne Lundquist presented Terry Bradshaw, so I dont think so.
https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/patriots/tom-bradys-heartfelt-goodbye-video-sure-give-patriots-fans-chillsIt's really just about the relationships, you know? It's about the people that I play for. The people that I play with. I think I came into a great situation here. I think there's been a great coach, a great owner, and great teammates.
And of course the HOT TAKEZ now are that this makes things look worse, as it was just a throwaway post.He thanked the Pats and loves us all!! Phew!!!

Yes. He was the greatest player in the history of the NFL, and one of my top 3-4 favorite players of all time, in any sport. And the 20 years of him with the Patriots was the most sustained enjoyment I've ever gotten out of any team(the Sox radical ups and downs over the same period leave them a close second). So, despite the disagreements over the nature of his announcement, this is a huge day. And though I suspect there's no way in hell he reads SOSH, I'll still take the moment to thank him for all great Sundays/Monday Nights/Thursday Night/Saturday Nights, and wish him Buona Fortuna in his next chapter.I'm in the DOTB camp of not caring even if Brady's retirement announcement called BB a dick, made fun of Kraft's massage parlor indiscretions and included video of him taking a dump at the 50 yard line at Gillette. I'll be disappointed if Brady doesn't want to come back to Foxboro for Tom Brady day, but (i) I don't believe that will be the case, and (ii) if for some reason he doesn't, who am I to say that he has to just to give me one more Tom Brady moment? It's his decision.
It is tempting to believe that Tom Brady belongs to us or that because we rooted for him and supported him for so long he somehow owes us something. He really doesn't. If the way things ended for him here left such a bad taste that he doesn't want to come back, that sucks, but what are you gonna do, remember the Lombardi's less fondly?
I never heard of half of these guys, and the ones I do know are way past their prime.this was the Red Sox lineup the Day of Brady's first start

He's a credible basketball writer given who his followers are. But, not sure how he'd get this kind of scoop.Never heard of this guy. Does he have credibility?

Considering Gronk said he'd only play for Brady, the odds are high that he retires as well.Brady retired from the Bucs today.
He retires from the Patriots in the future.
Pretty simple....
only question is if Gronk will do the same....
That HOF class will be something in 5 years with Brady, Gronk and Ben.Considering Gronk said he'd only play for Brady, the odds are high that he retires as well.
Yep. Your conclusion is true, and it sure didn't need this to confirm it. But I bet you're right about how this went down.Brady wants to time his retirement to not interfere with the conference title games
ESPN and social media won't stand for it
Brady (reportedly) in tandem with Kraft to hold a "retirement" from the Patriots, after he retires from the NFL and thanks the Bucs
Social media won't stand for it
Social media sucks
The Patriots part isn't coming from anybody credible yet, so that remains to be seen. At some point, it will happen. I just wonder if he is going to stay away for a little while.Brady wants to time his retirement to not interfere with the conference title games

And yet you need the very thing you malign to make your point. You have become what you despise!Brady wants to time his retirement to not interfere with the conference title games

Count yourself lucky. The last couple of teams before new ownership were dreadful.I never heard of half of these guys, and the ones I do know are way past their prime.
And unfortunately the starting pitcher is dead.I never heard of half of these guys, and the ones I do know are way past their prime.
Haven’t seen Major League in awhile?Count yourself lucky. The last couple of teams before new ownership were dreadful.
I hear you, but that is the way of the world now. There are a lot of good things about social media, but that isn't one of them. That doesn't change the point ... the kneejerkism of social media sucks
Guilty. I'm going to ask Jobu for forgiveness.Haven’t seen Major League in awhile?
Fortunately? And fortunately the starting pitcher is dead.
