Bob Stanley had some remarkable seasons for Boston. I know fans have historically given that guy a lot of crap, and not for no reason, but still. He was overall an excellent major league pitcher.
1978 - 52 g, 141.2 ip (2.2/g), 2.60 era, 3.25 fip, 160 era+, 4.3 bWAR
1980 - 52 g, 175.0 ip (3.1/g), 3.39 era, 3.77 fip, 125 era+, 2.9 bWAR
1982 - 48 g, 168.1 ip (3.2/g), 3.10 era, 3.54 fip, 140 era+, 4.6 bWAR
1983 - 64 g, 145.1 ip (2.1/g), 2.85 era, 3.33 fip, 153 era+, 4.0 bWAR
1985 - 48 g, 87.2 ip (1.2/g), 2.87 era, 3.77 fip, 149 era+, 2.9 bWAR
His FIP is always worse than his ERA mainly because he didn't strike many guys out. He was an extreme ground ball pitcher with that heavy sinker, but of course that means he relied on his fielders a lot. But he threw a TON of innings and was very effective for a long time. Imagine having a guy like this in today's game that could give you that number of quality innings in relief without breaking down?
