Bob Stanley had some remarkable seasons for Boston. I know fans have historically given that guy a lot of crap, and not for no reason, but still. He was overall an excellent major league pitcher.

1978 - 52 g, 141.2 ip (2.2/g), 2.60 era, 3.25 fip, 160 era+, 4.3 bWAR
1980 - 52 g, 175.0 ip (3.1/g), 3.39 era, 3.77 fip, 125 era+, 2.9 bWAR
1982 - 48 g, 168.1 ip (3.2/g), 3.10 era, 3.54 fip, 140 era+, 4.6 bWAR
1983 - 64 g, 145.1 ip (2.1/g), 2.85 era, 3.33 fip, 153 era+, 4.0 bWAR
1985 - 48 g, 87.2 ip (1.2/g), 2.87 era, 3.77 fip, 149 era+, 2.9 bWAR

His FIP is always worse than his ERA mainly because he didn't strike many guys out. He was an extreme ground ball pitcher with that heavy sinker, but of course that means he relied on his fielders a lot. But he threw a TON of innings and was very effective for a long time. Imagine having a guy like this in today's game that could give you that number of quality innings in relief without breaking down?

Yes.

But just so everyone is clear, the Bob Stanley thing on this thread and elsewhere is an extended joke, arising from that bias against him which came from his last handful of seasons. It's not actual crap.

Just like all the Cora and Bloom stuff last month, amiright?
Do you really think I think Bob Stanley is so awful as to cause premature aging in fellow bullpen members?

(FWIW, this most recent Stanley stats discussion started when I pushed back at the idea that Barnes is better than Stanley ever was. Because Stanley was clearly the superior pitcher.)

If you wanted to discuss Cora and Blooms shortcomings on the merits, I'm sure there's thread on it, but this is not it.

Is it Derek Lowe?
Tim Wakefield. He signed with the Sox on April 26, 1995 after being released by Pittsburgh. On May 27, on a West Coast trip, he started and pitched 7 innings in a 12-1 win over the Angels and on May 30 he went 7.1 innings in a 1-0 win over the A's. He was lights out for most of that season before fading in September.

3-for-3 (although there might have been another non-catcher that slipped my memory) which is good enough to submit the next question
I think the last non-catcher to catch in a game for the Red Sox was Steve Lyons, against the White Sox on September 8, 1993.

My recollection was that it wasn’t ok at all. Sox fans took a pretty good beating in the press for this crap, rightly so.
Not to defend the hooligans, but as I recall Eisenreich's affliction was kept under wraps at the time, and the public story was just that he suffered from "stage fright". But it all came out pretty quickly after he had to be helped off the field that night, and it was an embarrassment.

Speaking of Bob Stanley, I was at a WooSox game about two weeks ago, and they introduced him to the crowd. I think I was the only person in the crowd booing. People were looking at me weird. I was like, "What's wrong with YOU? That's Bob Stanley!"
Stanley's ERA in the 1986 World Series- 0.00 One wild pitch that maybe wasn't.
