Wow, tough call

Edit - that was a hold, too bad the runner was already way past the guy held. But definitely a penalty and a dumb one by Okung.

According to our resident rules guy, that's not a hold because the running back was already passed the point of the hold. It didn't affect the play.

I’d die if they brought Flacco in and split Jackson out wide on a trick play and Flacco chucked it into the end zone and got a DPI call.

From the rule book:

1st, and perhaps most important, the NFL rulebook outlines specific scenarios where offensive holding cannot be called by rule. Here are just a few (see rule 12-3-c for full list):

A player is being double teamed
A defender uses the "rip" technique, i.e. goes underneath the lineman's arm. These always look like a player is being clotheslined, and it is completely legal.
The players being held is not at the immediate point of attack or doesn't have likely ability to make the tackle/play.


That's what Nance was talking about when he said "he didn't even need to hold him."
