I'd imagine Haynes, as a relative noob, has a lot lose here. If he just jumped the gun, that's one thing, but if he got this wrong, wow ... I kinda wonder how long he'll last in a cut-throat ESPN world that's already cutting reporters left and right.
Considering he is the most talked about media member today I suspect he will have his own show on ESPN 2 by the end of the week.

Wait, so the theory is Hayward is postponing his announcement by one day so he can call Utah tomorrow, pretend he just made up his mind and still tell them he is signing with Boston. How exactly does that help Utah?

It makes them feel considered. I dunno.

Calling out Woj is an interesting play.

Edit: I guess those repoets could be consistent, if Miami was eliminated but hasn't been told.

Well, if it's a sign and trade, to allow Utah to get a consolation prize at least. Crowder, Avery, a giant Tootsie Roll, etc.

Yeah what I meant was why would they trade players to Utah for Hayward when they could trade players to another team for extra assets and then sign Hayward anyway?

Edit: Unless he told them he wouldn't sign with Boston unless they gave Utah something back.

Haha, you could be right, but I gotta say, I have not been too impressed with his forays into analysis. And he seems to blend analysis and straight reporting somewhat awkwardly — viz. his recent reporting of Durant's "selfless" contract signing.

to free up cap space to sign other FA like JaMychal Green? Is that even possible? If they sign Gordon to max but move Crowder and AB in a S&T, would they have cap space?

Haywould gets more money and he doesn't "leave" the Jazz, they traded him.

What do the Celtics get exactly? Couldn't they trade one of the pieces necessary to another team and get an asset in return in addition to getting Hayward?

Woj on SC again, they aren't even acknowledging Haynes' report.
Lol, that's so fvcked up. You had it plastered all over your front page as BREAKING NEWS for an hour, dumbasses! You can't just sweep it under the rug two hours later. A reputable news outlet would issue a proper retraction.

Well if DJ Jazzy Jody says it...
He's actually one of the big Jazz writers, he's at the Deseret News, 2nd biggest SLC paper, would be similar to being the Boston Herald or NY Post's #1 basketball writer. He probably has as good a source for Jazz players' camps as anyone.

Unrelated, there is no real incentive for the Celtics or Hayward to do a sign and trade, the CBA restricts you to what you would have gotten from a non-incumbent anyway, so he doesn't get the higher raises that his current team can offer in a S&T. Why would he or the Celtics want a S&T if he gets no extra money out of it?

Here
I'm sure Hayward is gonna get a nice, peaceful night's sleep and make a rational decision tomorrow.

Woj said he's "gone dark." I hope he doesn't jump off a bridge or something (unless he was leaning Utah).

Like everyone else here I am just speculating. Given the events of today, I believe some of the appeals by his Jazz teammates and those within the organization must have made him rethink his decision.

If this is the case, as others have said upthread, he should follow his heart even if we want him to choose Boston and even if we think he has the best chance to win with the Celtics.

You probably wanted Finn to go back to the Stormtroopers, too.

I frankly think this is one big PR orchestration since the news leaked early before they were ready -maybe he'll change his mind and sign with the Jazz but it looks like carefully orchestrated damage control to me

Just saw on ESPN's scroll that he's going to Boston. For whatever that's worth (next to nothing I guess).
