Trubisky looked in before the fumble there.

TIL a turnover on downs triggers automatic review.

What’s the rule there? He’s on the ball and down by contact short of the goal line, but he isn’t in full possession of the ball until he slides into the end zone.

I await a defender rushing back to his endzone to celebrate before he's actually down.

Want a shot of some random woman praying in the crowd? We got that. Replay of the - you know - action on the field? Not so much.
You can find the clip easily enough on Twitter. I can see why they didn’t show it.

Edit: They’re showing it now that Pittman walked off.

I mean, they’re trying to be sensitive not replaying the poor guy almost getting decapitated over and over, I get it.

Would be nice to see a replay. But it seemed like the defenders only choice was to stand by and let him try to catch it, or to hit him while he was defenseless. Are you supposed to just stand there and let them catch the ball?

Especially once Pittman jogged off. If he was motionless, I could understand the lack of replay. It was an ejection, I would like to judge intent upon review.
I have judged. Defender had time to see Pittman going low, lowered his own shoulder into Pittmans head .

That said, im not sure what the defender can do there when the WR is leading with *his* head.

Don’t preemptively launch or turn your body so you have no ability to see where you are going/adjust your body. If you leave your feet or turn your shoulder with momentum that early you are risking that hit.

If he ran to the point of the catch while squaring up, then that hit probably doesn’t happen. ‘Stand still and let him catch the ball’ isn’t the defender’s lone alternative.

There is some bad luck there, as well, but I don’t see it as an impossible situation for the defender.

That he led with his shoulder wwithout really looking at what he was tackling might have been a deciding point.

I don’t see how they don’t throw a flag on that, but the ejection feels excessive to me. Written without a hint of sarcasm, maybe I’m just behind on the NFL’s standards for ejecting players.

I don’t think that’s what happened. Pittman doesn’t look like he’s going to lay out for the ball as Kazee is coming to him. I don’t know the inner thought process or morality of Kazee, but I think he thought Pittman was going to stay upright. The replay covers about a second of time, so the decisions players make happen fast. Penalty? Sure. Ejection? Weak.

Agree on the ejection. Probably also on the intent, because I really dont think theres more than a handful of intentional headhunters. I dont know how intent plays into it, though. Maybe its like a high stick in hockey.

Aaaand, Minshew nearly gets Pierce killed.

Given the health/safety issues involved, yes, let him catch it if that truly is the only alternative.

Don’t you have to attempt the 56-57 yarder there?
