I forgot Philly. A familiar love-hate journey for Curt. The fans loved him when he took them to the World Series in 1993 but hated him for deciding to leave when the team regressed.
I’m guessing Chattanooga. Just a short road trip to Stone Mountain, GA. Curt loves history. So he wants/needs to be near a major city for medical access, but cities are generally liberal so that's hard. Place has to be mostly white, obviously, so Houston is out, so is Atlanta, as are the cities in Florida...Thank God Minnesota is cold or else he might have ended up in one of our burbs.
Curt has had enough with everyone here and he's leaving for good! Did you hear him?!? THIS TIME HE REALLY MEANS IT!
Meanwhile, Massachusetts sits on the sofa reading the paper.
View: https://youtu.be/SAeNEeEM46oCurt really is a man without a home in America. He’s the man who never returned. Born in Anchorage. Not going back. Grew up in Western PA. Doesn’t go back. Moved to Arizona for high school. Too sunny for Shonda. Lived in Drew Bledsoe’s house. Sold it for $3M. Alienated most of Rhode Island and MA. Now moving to Tennessee. On the road again. Willie Nelson might have to change the lyrics for Curt.
Phillies executive Ed Wade: "Every fifth day Curt's our horse. The other four days, he's our horse's ass."I forgot Philly. A familiar love-hate journey for Curt. The fans loved him when he took them to the World Series in 1993 but hated him for deciding to leave when the team regressed.
At this point he probably has none.I'm sure he's moving to the Nashville area (better hospitals, nicer area, etc.)...could be Franklin, Brentwood, or Belle Meade. Doesn't hurt that they just phased out the Hall Income Tax in 2020, so none of his income will be subject to state income tax.
putting aside any other retirement savings (which he may have dumped into 38studios) He's probaby pulling at least 100k annually from his pension, which wont be state-taxed in Tenn. (or NH. Glad he headed south.)At this point he probably has none.

I think he thinks he's RIGHT. Which is an entirely different kettle of fish.I wonder if he thinks he is a nice person. He has so many purposely vitriolic tweets, it would be interesting if he nevertheless thinks he’s really nice to everyone.
My wife is a diehard Phillies fan wasn't mad that he left for greener pastures, but hated him for all his nonsense in the dugout during the '93 Series when Mitch Williams was struggling.I forgot Philly. *I* hated him for that, and I didn't give a rat's ass who won. It was an absolutely shitty teammate thing to do. Mitch hadn't forgotten in 2019 either, it seems:My wife is a diehard Phillies fan wasn't mad that he left for greener pastures, but hated him for all his nonsense in the dugout during the '93 Series when Mitch Williams was struggling.
You're not wrong about Williams, but there's no defense for Curt's act. If he couldn't watch, he could have gone up the tunnel to the clubhouse (or just up the tunnel). You know, anywhere out of sight of cameras. But that's anathema to Schilling. Folks used to call him "Red Light" for a reason. In Curt’s defense, Mitch Williams was impossible to watch as a wild lefty who closed out games. Joe Carter’s Series-winning home run was preordained.
I had to read this thread just to make sure he wasn't moving to my neck of the woods.
Fans understood why he wanted out. Ownership was notoriously cheap at the time. Schilling called them out on it.My wife is a diehard Phillies fan wasn't mad that he left for greener pastures, but hated him for all his nonsense in the dugout during the '93 Series when Mitch Williams was struggling.
So you’re saying he wanted the attention and then he didn’t? This always fascinates me about athletes. Was there a significant incident that turned him into a media-hater? I know he feuded with Pedro Gomez, a good man, in Arizona. Then CHB in Boston. Somebody in Philly must have pissed him off. Maybe Angelo Cataldi? I need to ask around with my Philly media pals. You're not wrong about Williams, but there's no defense for Curt's act. When did he not want attention? He made a show of himself doing the towel thing every time Williams pitched, not just during that World Series. My point was he had alternatives if it was just about the anxiety induced by watching a guy nicknamed "Wild Thing" pitch. So you’re saying he wanted the attention and then he didn’t? Not disagreeing. Just curious who his early targets were. When did he not want attention? One does not have to like the media to be an attention seeking jackass. One might even say an open dislike for the media is just the way to get oneself more attention.
Here's an article from 2017 by someone who covered PHI when CS was there: https://www.nj.com/yankees/2017/01/why_this_scumbag_me_will_never_give_curt_schilling.html.So you’re saying he wanted the attention and then he didn’t? Schilling and his ilk don't consider themselves racist though. They are racist, but they never look in the mirror and have that conversation with themselves. It's cognitive dissonance that allows them to play the victim while feeling righteousI'll never understand when an athlete doesn't repudiate racism in any form. One of the great benefits of sports is that it places an athlete with fellow athletes of all races and classes. They work, play, travel, eat, and go to war with them for years. It should be eye-opening and offer insight into how we're all just human beings. Yet a guy like CS embraces a racist president and is fine with all the dog-whistling. You'd hope that the race-baiting would be enough to end any infatuation. I guess the racism was baked in long ago and impervious to 20+ years of experience. That's an impressive level of hard-headness and stupidity.
One of my favourite Raylan Givens speechesEvery place I go people wind up not liking me and I have to leave because I'm miserable there.
Must be everyone else who is wrong.
In Curt’s defense, Mitch Williams was impossible to watch as a wild lefty who closed out games. Joe Carter’s Series-winning home run was preordained.
We've all seen a shitload of butt-puckering baseball. I really can't recall seeing or hearing of a teammate behave that way in a remotely similar circumstance. When did he not want attention? He made a show of himself doing the towel thing every time Williams pitched, not just during that World Series. My point was he had alternatives if it was just about the anxiety induced by watching a guy nicknamed "Wild Thing" pitch.
I think people want attention only on their own terms, and it's unique to athletes. So you’re saying he wanted the attention and then he didn’t? This always fascinates me about athletes.
Bruce Prichard tells a story of riding in the front passenger seat, with VKM and Jerry Jarrett in the back seat. Bruce says he started laughing, and pointed out that he has the two most hated promoters in wrestling in the back seat. VKM laughs his ass off, but Jarrett was shocked "What, people/wrestlers LIKE me...."I wonder if he thinks he is a nice person.
I think Verne Gagne and Bill Watts would have to be in the conversation, lol.Bruce Prichard tells a story of riding in the front passenger seat, with VKM and Jerry Jarrett in the back seat. (back story: Jarrett was one of the very lowest payoff promoters in the business, workers claim to have subsisted on potatoes and canned baked beans)
That gets to my point about an inability to admit that he was ever wrong. If a POC told Schilling "Hey Curt, I like you but that was pretty racist" I'm sure his instinct would be to get super defense and hurl insults at the POC for being stupid for considering his "harmless" comments racist. He doesn't have the contrition to even begin to do that, which is why he has constantly doubled-down on whatever dumbass comment he is making at the moment.I agree and I'd be surprised if he considered himself a racist and I'm sure he'd be outraged to be called one. It's just genuinely surprising that he doesn't have a POC former teammate or friend who can point out the obvious and have some impact. Schilling's had the opportunity to live and learn and it's a shame he didn't take advantage. He's really gone.
I think the time period in which he was a player comes into play as well. In the 80s-90s-early00s, I imagine only the most overt acts and statements of racism would have invoked pushback or a response from a POC teammate. Subtle or subconscious acts that now would be called out immediately were probably things that might have been shrugged off as nothing or "not worth it" or might have labeled the person calling it out as too sensitive or even a troublemaker. You know, basically the same reaction we see from right-wing folks now...the old "(over)playing the race card" gambit. So it would never occur to him that he's doing anything even tinged with racism. After 30-40+ years of that, he's just a stubborn asshole who can't admit he might have been wrong about things.I think Verne Gagne and Bill Watts would have to be in the conversation, lol.

But if you recall back, G38 went into considerable detail right here on SoSH about how the US kids in the minors had to help out the guys from the islands with every day life: how to do laundry, how to shop, how to IIRC maintain proper hygiene, in addition to a myriad of other common every day tasks. Color/origin/education didn't really come into play for him. That gets to my point about an inability to admit that he was ever wrong. One has to wonder if he was embellishing. But if you recall back, G38 went into considerable detail right here on SoSH about how the US kids in the minors had to help out the guys from the islands with every day life: how to do laundry, how to shop, how to IIRC maintain proper hygiene, in addition to a myriad of other common every day tasks. Pre-Covid, it was a MLB requirement that players should cooperate with the media. Most leagues do. Players could always hide in the trainer’s room, or just look so pissed off, nobody would approach them. John Hannah was good at that in the Patriots’ locker room. His intensity post-game was palpable. But you’re right. Players should talk in good times and bad. I think Schilling did that. He never hid.If I were a manager or coach, I would tell my players that unless it's a league-mandated thing, they don't have to talk to the media, but if they talk when things are going well, they should talk when things are going badly.
my guess is that he will buy some property near the Chickamauga battlefield which was the most significant Confederate victory in the Western Theater. Stone Mountain is just an added benefit.I’m guessing Chattanooga. Just a short road trip to Stone Mountain, GA. Curt loves history.
I had an Army reunion in Chattanooga in 2016. Never knew that Confederate soldiers could not be buried in National cemeteries. We toured the one in Chattanooga. All union soldiers. Confederates have their own cemetery elsewhere in town. What would Curt think? Did he have a favorite side in the Civil War?my guess is that he will buy some property near the Chickamauga battlefield which was the most significant Confederate victory in the Western Theater. It's from an old Whistle/Vess soda ad, which explains wtf the cop is doing with his face:Is that a “Community Chest” or a “Chance” card?
He talks about”white Christians under attack” and other stuff so I tend to think he’s not a Union man.I had an Army reunion in Chattanooga in 2016. Curt probably brings his bloody sock to Civil War re-enactments. That’s as close as he would ever get to a war.He talks about”white Christians under attack” and other stuff so I tend to think he’s not a Union man.
