Agreed. This is a false report, the Nats are not trading Giolito for Miller. There is nothing in Rizzo's track record to suggest this will happen. They will put Giolito in the pen before this happens in all likelihood.

If Sale is truly in play, you have to make a run at him. Just don't trade Moncada. Maybe Edro, Benintendi, ++.Following Scott Lauber's story, word around Chisox Friday was that they had scouts at every Red Sox farm games last night
With prices as high as they are, Moncada is a fair ask especially factoring in Sale's contract. Face it, the farm would relocate to Chicago if Sale becomes a Red Sox.If Sale is truly in play, you have to make a run at him. Just don't trade Moncada. Maybe Edro, Benintendi, ++.
He'd be that good? Ace!Sale would come here and post a 5.35 ERA
This makes me feel slightly better than if they only had scouts at the Portland game. But only slightly.Following Scott Lauber's story, word around Chisox Friday was that they had scouts at every Red Sox farm games last night
This is pretty much my fear as well. There are all kinds of warning signs that he may not be the pitcher he has been: not just the scary monthly OPS and ERA splits, but the career-low K/9 and career-high HR/9, FB velocity the lowest it's been since early 2013--with one side effect that his FB/changeup differential is smaller than it's ever been, which may be one of the reasons why he's cut his changeup usage in half this year. This is concerning both because the period of his greatest dominance (2014-15) has corresponded precisely to the period of his increased changeup use, and also because he's replacing those changeups largely with sliders, which presumably puts his arm more at risk. The impact of all this is maybe most obvious in the whiffs per swing graph: he's down in this department for all his pitches, but especially for his changeup, which for the past two years has been as good a swing-and-miss pitch as his slider.Sale would come here and post a 5.35 ERA
This is where I am as well. They've been so inconsistent that it doesn't seem like a wise investment, short term (for this season) or long term (for the prospects it will take; a much larger package than just one guy). There are no super teams out there, so maybe they think they can maneuver their way to a title. But I really tend to doubt that possibility -- with the schedule working against them and Papi really one misstep from going down in a heap.I'm not saying I don't want him. But I don't want the Sox to give up what he will cost.
They've reportedly wanted Gallo and Mazara from the Rangers. That's pretty much two of Moncada, Benintendi and Devers.
Red Sox and Rangers still trying to get Sale.
I really wish the Red Sox wouldn't focus so much on Sale. They need a LF and another bullpen arm, and everyone knows that Sale will be a total overpay. I had a bad feeling that DD is going to empty out the farm system for Sale. Some Lucroy news
“@Ken_Rosenthal: Sources: #Mets made three-player offer to #Brewers for Lucroy, headed by d’Arnaud. Second piece believed to be Nimmo or comparable player.”
Have to match something like that if we want him
How do we know that they're focusing so much on Sale?I really wish the Red Sox wouldn't focus so much on Sale. They need a LF and another bullpen arm, and everyone knows that Sale will be a total overpay. I had a bad feeling that DD is going to empty out the farm system for Sale.
I would say that D'Arnaud and Nimmo are comparable to Swihart OR Vazquez (depending on the Brewers preference) AND Basabe? It is hard to find a comparable player to Nimmo since he is having success in the upper levels--the Red Sox's best prospects are below him (in terms of minor league level).

"The Washington Nationals have acquired All-Star closer Mark Melancon in a trade Saturday with the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to multiple reports.
Left-handed reliever Felipe Rivero is headed to Pittsburgh as part of the deal, according to reports."

Sources: #WhiteSox scouted #RedSox’s AAA, AA and High A affiliates last night. Sox “highly doubt” deal will occur due to asking price.
One of the above tweets made it sound like Sale is a high priority target for the Red Sox. Of course, that doesn't make it true. How do we know that they're focusing so much on Sale?
The Mets offer for Lucroy is better than your offer for Smith and Lucroy. According to reports, the Mets are offering D'Arnaud and Nimmo. D'Arnaud and Nimmo > Swihart and Owens.Would Smith, Lucroy for Swihart, Owens be possible?
I guess I'm curious -- if this interest is legit -- why they don't believe Leon/Hanigan/Vasquez/Swihart is strong enough to get them through this seasonI'm curious what a veteran catcher like Lucroy might be worth to this pitching staff and Lucroy/Leon would be a pretty formidable tandem behind the plate.
Vasquez has a weak bat (a small sample size, but he isn't doing much in AAA either). Leon has never been able to hit prior to this season; the Red Sox probably expect him to regress to career norms. Swihart is hurt and some people believe the Red Sox don't think highly of his defense, which is why they want him to learn LF. I won't even mention Hanigan for reasons that are pretty self-explanatory.I guess I'm curious -- if this interest is legit -- why they don't believe Leon/Hanigan/Vasquez/Swihart is strong enough to get them through this season
I also think that the catching is good enough to get them through, I'm just curious if a guy like Lucroy helps stabilize the pitching staff. Maybe that's the lesser of evils when considering the price of pitching.I guess I'm curious -- if this interest is legit -- why they don't believe Leon/Hanigan/Vasquez/Swihart is strong enough to get them through this season
I'm not so sure that they need more offense, but more timely offense in close games sure would be nice.Vasquez has a weak bat (a small sample size, but he isn't doing much in AAA either). I would like to see the Red Sox upgrade C and/or LF in order to add more offense.
Dave Cameron put forth this argument:

For Sale? Sure. If pbr is right about Reddick, not so much. This will make your head spin a bit ... Vazquez not in Pawtucket's lineup tonight, Benintendi not in lineup for Portland. Kinda odd for a Saturday night.
Massive understatement. I hope.Red Sox Stats @redsoxstats 7m7 minutes ago
Vazquez and Benintendi missing from lineups tonight, that should be enough to rent Josh Reddick.
For Sale? Sure. If pbr is right about Reddick, not so much.
We'd better hope so. My fear is that this portends Benintendi + Vazquez for Lucroy + Smith, which would be a pretty serious overpay, I think.Massive understatement. I hope.
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, with Lucroy out of the lineup for the Brewers, too. We'd better hope so. My fear is that this portends Benintendi + Vazquez for Lucroy + Smith, which would be a pretty serious overpay, I think.
Don't spoil the fun.Maybe it's nothing but days off
