I still think of him as a Mariner, but whatever I guess.

Yeah, I understand that he spent a number of years with the Diamondbacks, pitched a perfect game, a 20-strikeout game, and won a World Series...
So, it's not like he's Wade Boggs or something, there's plenty of legitimate case for him to be in there as a Diamondback.

But, he'll always be a Mariner to me.

I get the Mariners sentiment but Johnson had 35% more WAR in 11% fewer IP with Arizona. Plus the WS and 4 Cy Youngs vs one in Seattle. Really the only thing Seattle has is that he was there first. He's a Diamondback.

On the other hand, Pedro is going to close the show spectacularly.

Is Ricky going to speak before him, though?

I've been paying attention in and out, but wasn't he introduced as a special guest and carrying a folio that appeared to contain some pieces of paper, etc.?

I think either he was late and missed his chance to be introduced with the rest of the HOFers, or they genuinely forgot to introduce him then.  I don't think he'll be speaking.

For a guy who is clearly uncomfortable with speaking in public, he did great.  And his shout out to the kid from Ohio State with leukemia just about killed me. I like him a lot better now than I did when he played.

All his life spoke with a baseball, not with words. This probably was a genuinely difficult thing for him to do, but he kept it classy.

"As Pedro joins the Commissioner and I..."

Do people generally avoid the word "me" when speaking?

"I" is subjective; "me" is objective.

It just sounds so ignant.

Rickey was playing cards with Bobby Bonilla
Bobby had to take a break to cash his yearly check from the Mets.

Pedro closing the show is the only way this could have ended. Greatest I've ever seen. I wonder if they'll announce him as the true 1999 MVP.

"Owned the inside part of the plate."

Yea he did.
And the outside. And the top and bottom. And the infield and outfield. And he owned the bleachers, and the streets around the park. And the TVs and radios throughout New England. And on October 27, 2004, the church bells, too.
