From an earlier linked article:
Fair enough, but Roethlisberger also said how many things that were demonstrably false about the last two minutes of the game against us the other week? I appreciate the quote, and it is what it is, but all other character issues aside, Ben's word on the gravity of this isn't all that telling.

Do you suppose Rob Ninkovich's phone rang once before Harrison was officially signed, just out of curiosity?

Not happy he signed with the patriots. Not surprised. The dude loves the game. Likely one of the strongest men in the game. Rabid gym rat to a whole new level, he's been known to come off the team charter from an away game and go to the gym before going home.

The current LB corps of the Steelers has learned a ton from him about strength and taking care of his body, he spends serious coin on upkeep, massage, acupuncture etc. gotta love the offseason videos of playing a variant of beach volleyball with a medicine ball.

He's all glower and intimidation but is quietly a very very smart man and a smart football player. The super bowl interception he was supposed to be rushing and saw something and dropped into coverage.

He hates roger goodell more than the entire patriots organization and fandom does, so there's your common ground.

He's effective in rushing because he has huge bend around the corner of much larger tackles who he can rip under, which is a sign as much of flexibility and strength as it is speed.

He's been in the press griping about playing time which means it's likely he has been carping internally about playing time for even longer. And that doesn't fly with the org. I'd have dumped McCullers myself, but there weren't a lot of good options to dump from the roster other than him for those paying attention.

Harrison going to the bengals wasn't seen as a big deal because the bengals always manage to shit the bed against the Steelers much like the Steelers tend to shit the bed against the patriots. Brady and the patriots have owned the Steelers for a decade but in all honesty the recent win was a squeaker comprised of both luck and better coaching prep in the final seconds.

You guys have some better discussion than some of the more cesspool forums, but you're as vulnerable to smug superior homer douche nozzle as any fan base in sports, potentially more so.

I could go on but this is far more than typical for me as it is.

Here
The Steelers are going straight up Red Sox:
Among ways Harrison tried to get himself out of Pittsburgh, one team source said Harrison was known to sleep in a recliner chair during position meetings and snore loudly while Joey Porter would teach.
Dupree said Harrison would leave the stadium as soon as he found out he was inactive the past four or five weeks, often didn’t practice or attend meetings and rarely would come in the locker room. Said he wouldn’t visit Ryan Shazier in hospital, either.
Here’s the very first response to the second tweet:
That is fake news!! My niece was one of Shazier nurses and James Harrison was there a day or so after he arrived at UPMC
Tomlin sure runs a tight ship.

While there isn't much to tell the patriots regarding plays or X's and O's, I think there's something to glean regarding their new shift from zone to man against them this last game.

Did they have a plan on when to go man vs zone? Was it based off formation, down and distance, etc. What did they go over in the film session after when they discussed failed coverages and future goals on those plays?

I mean, it's not earth shattering stuff, but I'm sure a 30 minute conversation about that shit couldn't hurt the coaching staff.

The Patriots are so decimated that they think this old shell might be an upgrade and every other day the Steelers give another indication they are a dysfunctional mess. I think it's fair to say that neither the Patriots or the Steelers are fielding one of their, say, eight best teams in franchise history. Nevertheless I'd come pretty close to taking these two teams over the field to win the Super Bowl.

They are one up on the Red Sox it seems. Lucchino had to play behind the scenes with Shank and other writers. Looks like team Rooney has some of the players taking leading roles.

My goodness, that AFC North Neanderthal crew does have a sensitive side. Steelers are in full Lucchino mode over a guy who barely played and Tomlin said was nothing special. While in Baltimore, Harbaugh was in full the-League-is-out-to-get-us mode over the Bengals game being flexed from 1:00 to 4:00.

The Bengals and Browns are at least quiet. Nobody whines like teams Rooney and Bisciotti. I have had a front row seat to the whining for 21 years. It never ceases to amuse.

Yeah, in the end you'd probably be stupid to rely on the other team keeping stuff, but maybe the point is that the fear of intel gathering may affect your opponent a little. Maybe they are afraid to use that awesome trick play. I dunno, but week 17 is a point where I could see some minor advantage given that the trick plays have probably been locked down for months and there aren't unlimited practice hours in the day. Put it this way -- I'd be a bit concerned to learn the Ravens, or whoever looks to be lining up as the divisional opponent, had access to Allen or Gostkowski.

In the end, though, Belichick has it exactly right. It has nothing to do with the Jets. There is tough football still to be played and nothing close to a guarantee these teams will face each other. And the idea that James Harrison is a guy with the seven secret herbs and spices is absurd.
Isn’t the most famous incident of a team not switching up after a defection the Raiders when they went against their own head coach they traded away the year before?

Well look at it this way; on the one hand, his knowledge of US history, specifically the Battle of the Alamo is woefully pathetic, but on the other hand, him referencing the Alamo is spot on as the game will in fact be the Steelers Alamo.

So he's got that going for him, which is nice.
I'm hoping that in a nationally-televised game, the Patriots' enterprising, budget-friendly signing of James Harrison will be what hertz the Steelers in their Alamo.

They have recliners in meeting rooms? He was sleeping, snoring and leaving games early? And we are just hearing about this after he leaves? I have never been in a Patriots meeting room but I am really hoping the seating isn't suitable for reclining or sleeping. And if any Patriots player was caught sleeping or leaving a game early I am pretty sure BB would have dealt with that (at least internally) on the spot, perhaps in the way of a surprise release. Especially for a guy who was only seeing a handful of plays for the season.

In trying to bash JH they only made themselves look worse. Granted it doesn't paint JH in the best light either.

That was my reaction too. I don't know if the stories are true but, if so, it makes the organization look pretty bad for putting up with that shit all season.

No kidding. If the Steelers players are to be believed, Harrison slept during meetings, left the stadium during games, and faked injuries so that he wouldn't have to practice. And all of that was tolerated, mind you, for weeks (months?), and he was only released because they needed his roster spot for a guy coming back from a steroid suspension. This all coming a week after their coach and QB can't agree on who's fault it was that they peed down their leg at the end of the Pats game, where they weren't prepared for the situation at hand because their star QB was too busy praying on the sideline.

And they think Harrison is the one who looks bad here? Christ, this whole organization comes out looking like a second rate high school team.

It's like whomever said it in another thread: not to take anything away from Belichick, but a hidden factor to all of his success is how awful so many of these other coaches are. The dude was straight up snoring during a meeting and Joey Porter didn't tear into him? Way to hold the players accountable, guy.

In BB A Football Life, the meeting room is a lecture-hall type of thing with tiered seating with upright backs. Like you'd sit in at a college chem class or something but maybe a little more intimate.

This team full of AFC North badasses clearly weren’t comfortable confronting the guy right to his face.

That was before the, um, two deaths he was held civilly responsible for, right? Wasn't the Pouncey picture taken after the Hernandez murders?
Oh, I was just trying to steer us back onto the rental car theme. Don't mind me, I tend to go off the reservation a bit sometimes.

They're so so so mad. Dupree has no proof Harrison took his playbook with him, but says if he did, it'd be shitty:

There’s also one more interesting tidbit. The Post-Gazette referenced Dupree’s interview with Zeise and he didn’t rule out that Harrison might have taken his whole playbook with him to the Patriots.

“If he did that, that’d be real fugazi, lame, L-12, pull-up-on-’em type … you can’t just take the whole playbook,” Dupree said, according to the Post-Gazette. “Now you’re going too far. But he may have did that. You never know. He may be at that point where he’s so mad, he probably just said, ‘All right, I don’t really know the playbook this year, but I’m finna take the whole playbook to Bill [Belichick] and let him do what he does.’”

Dupree clearly had no proof that Harrison did take his playbook with him. Even if he didn’t, there are plenty of other stories going around that portray Harrison as about the worst teammate the Steelers could have possibly had this season.

Best signing ever.

It is amazing the lack of control Tomlin has. I’m sure he’s feeding the narrative as well, instead of capping the fire.

That sounds like the Onion. Can someone help me out with "L-12?"

I don't know L-12, but "pull up on em" is hilarious. Good luck with that, Bud. Maybe Wiz Khalifa can remake "Hit 'em Up" for the Steelers intro next time they play us.

It's three times as bad as being a L7.

edit: I think I'm having a stroke. "Three times" because L7 means "square" and a square has four sides. I didn't reason it out like that, it just came to me. I should probably call 911.
