Tommy Kelly placed on IR… guess the return to practice didn't go to well...
Yikes, this is the second year in a row the low-money veteran FA signings have been a disaster:
QB Tebow - cut in camp
RB Washington - so far just 15 total snaps (O + STs)
WR Jenkins and Jones - cut in camp
OL Green - IR in camp
OL Svitek - just 3 offensive snaps
DT Kelly - on IR after 5 games, 223 snaps
DE Marcus Benard - cut in camp
S Adrian Wilson - IR in camp

Kelly looked very good before the injury; that's a real shame.   Wonder what the injury is---odd timing on the IR.

That's a horrendous list. Meanwhile the one that got away, Abraham is beginning to play well and not injured.

Losing Kelly for the year sucks.

John Fox golfing on a bye week? Works for me. Maybe they feel they've got the second half figured out in Denver. Take it easy boys, BB will study the film

Jason Cole ‏@JasonPhilCole42s
By the month-to-6 week timeline reported by @JayGlazer, Denver coach John Fox will miss both games against KC.

Mike Klis ‏@MikeKlis2m
John Fox will have heart surgery Monday or Tuesday. He will be out minimum of 2 weeks, up to 2 months. Jack Del Rio likely interim.

So Jack Del Rio will be coaching DEN when they play the Pats?

Do you think he will buy a new leather jacket or dust off the one he wore on the Jacksonville sideline?

After a scare like that, you go on a shopping spree.

Wow, thought he was OK when I was making light of it.  I know this shit is routine, but still, heart surgery...hope he comes out of it OK.

No, Jack Del Rio will be the figurehead. Peyton Manning will be coaching the Broncos.

Wow--first the Broncos steal Manning from the Colts, now they are stealing the injured coach the team rallies around--Foxstrong! Maybe ownership can start sending out batshit crazy tweets next.

To put it in perspective, Gronk just had what would be a top 5 game in the career of both Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates receiving. He was also a primary blocker on a team that had 197 yards rushing... Dude is all-time good.

I figured it was something ugly with Gregory.  They don't cover bruises and sprains with a towel.  But he had literally zero reaction, so I was holding out hope it wasn't serious.

Gronk got tackled in the balls:

@Mary_Paoletti: Gronkowski about hobbling off: "That was a big hit....He got me right in the groin area. Huah-huah-huah."

La Mancha.
Man, the injuries just keep piling up.  We get on Gregory a lot around here, but he was a stud against the run today.  Next man up, but wow, how many men do we have left?

He's really been a lot better all year long compared to last year. Anyone have a sense of Duron Harmon's play yesterday or in limited action before this? Obviously great at playing way back for gimme INTs (!)  and hasn't embarrassed himself like Tavon Wilson did a few times last year, so that's something I guess....

Gregory is having surgery this afternoon for what does sound like a Bennett's fracture of his thumb. I don't think it was an open fracture because if it was they would have done it last night as an emergency

Same injury as Clay Matthews, who is looking at about 6 weeks out with his.

Interesting point raised by the National Football Post:

MMMD 4: Secrecy may have paid off for the Patriots
New England has long been known for its secrecy regarding the reporting of injuries. When Patriots defensive lineman Vince Wilfork tore his Achilles tendon earlier this season, fellow d-lineman Tommy Kelly’s role became even more important. Kelly was thought to be recovering well from his Week 5 knee injury, but instead, he was placed on IR Saturday. This all happened after the Patriots were able to beat the trade deadline and obtain DL Isaac Sopoaga in a deal with Philadelphia.

My guess is that the price might have been a bit higher had the real news about Kelly’s pending move to IR been released.

Gregory had his surgery tonight, I'd anticipate him back for the Dolphins game, maybe the Ravens, playing in some sort of cast/splint

So with the bye week, Gregory will miss 4 games (including Dec. 8th vs. Browns) or 5 (including Dec. 15th @ Dolphins). I'll take that.

Heard on the radio that Kubiak had a mini-stroke and may coach again this weekend. What the fuck?

Some information on TIAs (mini-strokes):

http://www.strokeassociation.org/STROKEORG/AboutStroke/TypesofStroke/TIA/TIA-Transient-Ischemic-Attack_UCM_310942_Article.jsp

Obviously a lot would depend on what they saw on the CT scan and in the other tests they performed, but I think the main issue would be whether the doctors feel there is an elevated risk of him having a full ischemic stroke if he goes back to coaching too soon.  It is my understanding (I am not a doctor) that he shouldn't have any lingering symptoms typically associated with strokes that would prevent him from going back to coaching fairly soon, though.

According to Schefter, initial reports are that Rodgers will miss 3 weeks with a "small fracture" in his clavicle.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/11/05/report-initial-tests-suggest-rodgers-will-miss-about-three-weeks/

The Packers next three games:
- vs. PHI
- @ NYG
- vs. MIN

Would set him up to return for their Thanksgiving game @DET. Could be a very entertaining last two months in the NFC North, where the Packers, Bears, and Lions are all 5-3.

I doubt it. Giving him the extended mini-BYE after the Thanksgiving (Thursday) game would ensure there are no lingering issues. He probably misses the next four games, unless they lose the PHI, NYG and MIN games and desperately need to rush him back.
