Yes. Witten is a man. And it's too bad he has had to play for Dallas all these years

I'd say the definition of irrational is an argument that immediately turns into a personal attack based on a goofy position I had on Tebow 3 years ago. Seriously? Hope the Captain gets over his anger about that at some point. Life's good -- lighten up.

The Caldwell comment was a flip one in a gamethread based on a memory of that collage of his faces having been posted about 10 times here since he was hired. There was a discussion about him on a thread during the offseason -- including, yes, more than comments about his face, but also a lot of dismissing him based on body language, sort of like the response to Pete Carroll's hire   --  happy to renew that conversation as I think Caldwell was a very logical hire for a team that needed discipline and, more than anything else, someone to rein in Stafford. Having a losing record at Wake Forest, of all places, has about as much relevance as Dennis Green's college record -- oddly enough, the same 26-63 as Caldwell (which is weird). The point being that a lot of great college records haven't meant anything in the pros, and vice versa. The idea of judging a pro coach based on the different skills required at the college level is weird.  Caldwell's pro record is very good (yes he had Peyton, but then Peyton credits him with making him what he became, so that's circular -- perhaps more remarkable was his work with Flacco, who owes him millions).  More importantly, he's touted by people who know a lot more than I do  -- from Peyton Manning to Bill Polian -- as having precisely the skill set needed in Detroit.

I don't take this stuff seriously enough to keep a running tab on how often I'm right or wrong (pretty sure wrong more often than right, but at least willing to go against the common wisdom occasionally) , but for now I think the Lions look like they're much better coached. Certainly much better than they were last year. We shall see.

I don't care if that comes back. The Saints still have no defense

Jerry will be insufferable. This is going to be good in the weeks ahead

Speaking of guy with a big rep and little behind it, what has Rob Ryan ever done? What a joke of a defense...bad day for the Ryans. :)

Collinsworth is absolutely right about building that o line though. Have to give Jones credit for abiding boring draft choices

Do the Pats even have a receiver as good as Williams? He just ran straight down the field and won the ball. No trick play or weird pattern. Just one guy beating another.

The certainly don't have one as good as Dez Bryant. That is indisputable. I don't care of he required 4 baby sitters at one point

I wish I felt more comfortable up 24-0 but this isn't my first time watching this team.
Yes. But you have the road Saints, which is a completely different team. Don't turn the ball over is all

Something to remember if the game comes down to the last drive or something: clock inexplicably stopped after the long completion. Twenty free seconds.

Seems like such clock malfunctions happen all the time but usually go unnoticed, especially in the middle of the game.

Wonder if Rob Ryan will ever get another DC job after this year

I honestly don't think he deserves one. Not just because he's a Ryan and I don't like their blowhard style, but because...really, speaking of track records, the guy's is terrible. Bad with the Cowboys, Browns, and Raiders -- last year's Saints' improvement is the outlier. But he's got a big personality, he gesticulates a lot...and someone this matters to people who know nothing.

The Saints really needed 7 there.

I'm sure 2011 Tony C wouldn't have called it "goofy", but okay.  Sure.  You can believe I'm full of anger or something like that.

He was ruled out of bounds at the end of the play. The clock stops until the ball is spotted. On long plays like that, there's often a ten-second or so stoppage.

Ahh, if he was ruled oob then it was just run of the mill officiating blindness.

Meanwhile Dallas' supposed awful D has allowed 3 points.  Interesting.
That's an indication there are real problems in NO

Dallas offense might be really good though, much better than I thought. That line is legit and they've been calling much better games.

Meanwhile, Rob Ryan's defense is truly awful.  They are slow and yet not strong at the line.   No pressure, not good tackling.

They are making the Cowboys look like the Greatest Show on Turf tonight

Yeah, the line has been opening up a lot of holes for Murray and Dunbar, not to mention holding steady for Romo.

Wait, you mean to tell me there's a reason BB plays Brady with a 28-point lead in the 4th quarter?

EDIT: you know, other than wanting to embarrass the opponent.
