I don't really see how Allen Robinson is a fair comp. They had completely different roles during their rookie seasons. Same thing with Funchess.

Benjamin put up those numbers because only five players had the ball thrown their way more than he did that season. You throw someone the ball 145 times and they had better put up some numbers. When you look at the stats of the other players who had a similar number of targets, you realize Benjamin's stats really weren't very impressive. And I don't buy the argument that other teams were scheming against him. If anything, he probably got so many targets because teams were scheming against Olsen and would have rather had Cam target Benjamin instead.

I think it's likely Benjamin plays better this season than his rookie year, even though he's likely to put up a less impressive statline. I just don't see him being a game changer. He's a big guy and he uses his body well. He's a solid redzone threat and he'll be tough to defend against smaller secondaries. But he's got some pretty significant holes in his game. He's still pretty raw as a route runner and he's got hands of stone.

I'm not trying to shit on the guy, I just think any talk of him taking this offense to another level is mostly wishful thinking.
We can agree to disagree. I think the presence of a true outside threat like Benjamin makes this team almost impossible to scheme against. Between the running game, Olsen, and Newton's ability to scramble, that was really one of the only holes in this offense last year, and he fills it. I think we're already seeing it pay dividends for them in the 1st half tonight.

Amazing play by Shane Ray there on the Newton roll out. Very curious to see if he takes it to the next level this year.

Dude, this is beyond stupid even for you, insanely so. Yeah, the Stingley hit. One of the most important hits in 70s football and football in general. Just stop.

I get that you don't know much about tackling, nor what a hawk roll is and I get that you want to whine about this one but the approach taken by the tackler was, by far, the safest and most effective tackling option for the situation.
So what exactly did you mean when you said "hit him in the back, Stingley style" ?

Hit him high, which was in the back because that was the part of the torso available to him, while he was not expecting it, which makes it an immensely dangerous hit, as Happened in stingley's case. You PC guys are having a rough night on this lateral thinking, with all due respect.

Manning is thinking that he could have thrown that interception. C'mon Peyton, you know you want to come back.

You're right. It is stupid. I should have continued to ignore the most intellectually dishonest and disingenuous poster that has ever graced this board. I'll just leave you with your own words.

You would rather he hit him in the back Stingley style???

Yeah, you didn't think he got hit in the back. You've just invented a new language where the words we write don't mean what they mean.

And for the record, I'm guessing I'm the only one in this conversation that played organized football at even the high school level, so I'm pretty sure I don't need tackling or any other advice from you.

It looked like Newton thought there was a whistle there and stopped playing, leading to the Ware sack. The defense was pointing for a false start, and half the Carolina line didn't move.

Edit: Nahh, I rewound it, they were calling out assignments at the line of scrimmage, but sounded like a whistle on replay and Newton seemed to just stop.

Uhoh.

I fucking HATE seeing someone look like their back is jacked up. It fucking ruins careers. Here's hoping Cams back just got tweaked a bit.

I thought Cam was so big and strong that he was impervious to damage?

Im going to have to get over my dislike for Manning. He sure can talk football.
Peyton himself has never irked me, he seems like a funny, down to earth kind of guy. The media's ball washing of him and the natural rivalry with Brady is why most people around here dislike him.

Hey Peyton, what's it like getting off the HGH? You could probably get some TRT legally now.

I played at the same level and am now a certified coach. But keep telling us how smart and awesome an athlete you were. I still find it funny.

Have you noticed that Benjamin was back on the field and effective shortly after the hit?

This. I love Peyton. Off the field. Shit, he's probably one of the best athlete/non-actor/comedian hosts of SNL ever, IMO, which gets him a ton of points with me. I could do with only having to see the same Peyton commercial 10x a game, but that's not his fault. I think I saw the new one with Eli last week at least 500 times during college football.

Yep. That and he didn't get caught cheating when he clearly did and the reverse for Brady.

Who said Benjamin got seriously hurt? That was never part of the discussion. More of that intellectual honesty, huh? Does this shit work on those 10 year olds you got certified to coach? Are most of them taller than you?

See what I did there? I pulled a Yammer and made a stupid personal attack. Isn't this fun?

I actually think Semien has been better than I expected. I thought the 1st pick was more of a great play by the defense than it was a bad play by him. If you eliminate the 2nd pick, it's really not been a bad start. And he's not exactly playing against the Sisters of the Poor on defense. This defense made Jimmy G. look pretty bad a couple weeks ago, IIRC. Denver is going to pull this game out. The same way they did so many last year.

No, he's not horrible, but Collinsworth is genuflecting on every completed 6 yard pass. It's kinda similar to the fellating Manning got last year.

I'll tell you what. If Garoppolo only makes one horrible throw on Sunday night against Arizona, and otherwise does what Siemian has done tonight, I'll be very, very happy.

Kubiak has called a great game. Semien throws a nice ball and it seems he has been able to throw to his first option on almost every throw. He has looked a little off if the first option isn't available. Still better than expected.

Semien is pretty bad imo, Kubiak has just called a great game of bootlegs and screens that have kept him competent.

LOL, the more things change, the more they stay the same. There is the late turnover for Denver, they will win this game.

That's the thing though. There are 15 other teams out there trying to call easy games for their quarterbacks to make them look competent, but it doesn't work. Siemian is certainly no Aaron Rodgers, but he doesn't need to be. This Denver team won a Super Bowl last year with a QB that had twice as many picks as touchdowns. If he just doesn't make too many mistakes, Denver will be right back in it again this year.
