Minus the whole gun thing? I'm not sure I'd sweep that part aside so casually. The fact that he got angry and decided to vent that anger by discharging a firearm doesn't set off any sirens for you? It certainly doesn't prove that he choked or hit her, but it's enough that I wouldn't want him around my team if I was considering a trade.
I was just saying that I'm sure tons of athletes have "their road beef" on their phone and their wives/gfs etc see them and it causes a huge argument. I wasn't condoning it or implying DD inquire about him....

I doubt the Dodgers will trade for him, but I'm sure this will blow over the the Reds will probably be able to trade him in July.

The gunshots may be unrelated to the argument, I think that is a better way of framing that part of the discussion. He claims he just shot it in his garage.

If he brought the gun out and fired it as part of the argument, that is pretty horrible.

They were probably arguing over the value of the opt-out he's going to ask for once he hits free agency.

Chapman seems to have a short fuse; by his own admission, in response to what was going on, he apparently punched out a window of his landrover in his garage, then took out a handgun from his glovebox, then fired 8 shots inside his garage - one of which went out of the garage through a window.

Whether or not he did this to intimidate anyone, he certainly violated FL law: http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&Search_String=&URL=0700-0799/0790/Sections/0790.15.html

Granted, it's only a misdemeanor, but you have to wonder about a guy whose reaction to domestic frustration of some sort is to smash things and shoot off a gun. (Even for cathartic purposes - who knows what happens next time?)

If the Globe's report is correct insofar as Red Sox shying off when they discovered this .. it doesn't say much for the Dodgers due diligence. It is also hard to believe the Reds weren't aware. I suppose it's possible (but unlikely) both teams knew and only backed off when it became public?

Would the Red Sox have informed the Reds of their findings? Do teams do this sort of thing? That is tattling on other team's players?

There's a lot in the bolded section that should be considered separately.

IMO, the Reds were obviously aware of the incident. Do they have an obligation to inform potential trading partners? I think the answer to that is probably no from a technical perspective (Chapman has not been found guilty of anything and MLB hasn't indicated that any sort of suspension is coming) but yes from a practical perspective. Because if you trade a player with this hanging over his head and say nothing, you're not going to be considered a team who deals in good faith going forward.

So I think that the Reds are going to tell other teams, which is one of the reasons why the price for Chapman seemed so reasonable.

It seems almost inconceivable that a team like the Sox would discover this in due diligence before the Reds would, but on the off chance that they do, there's no obligation for them to tell the Reds. If they did mention it, the unstated (or maybe bluntly stated) message would be "get your act together and stop peddling potentially toxic assets."

Of course leaving aside her fantastic rack, I don't think this is quite the same damming visual evidence as we've seen in the past....I don't think they'll suspend him for domestic abuse but may because of the gun

She couldn't close her mouth for the photo? Who does she think she is, Emily Ratajkowski?

Bruising and bleeding are pretty individual; it's hard to tell how hard someone got hit by the effect it has on them. Looks like her upper lip is busted up, unless that's something else.

Another pic. Looks like the spot on her lip is a "cold sore" I'm guessing. If she had an actual fat lip it would've been noted somewhere

Yeah, agreed that the gun thing here does kill off my tendency to otherwise focus more on the talent.

But even beyond that Chapman is a rental guy who was/is in line to get a really really ridiculous and record shattering contract next winter, that a year from now would have left Kimbrel's looking like a bargain. I may have been mostly all-in on spending big market money on a starter this winter, but that certainly wasn't just about the 2016 season, much less a justification that we should be making a similar jump in logic on a reliever.

I'll grant that I'm on my phone and my eyesight isn't exactly hawk-like, but what are we looking at in the picture of the girlfriend? I see the lip, which could be busted or could be a cold sore. I see about a four inch, horizontal, slightly red mark on her sternum. Otherwise, what a I missing?

I think the point is that there is an obvious lack of bruising and scratching that might come from being choked. Of course, the lack of bruising and scratching doesn't meant the choking didn't happen.

OK, that was certainly my initial reaction, but I didn't know if I was just missing something by looking at it on a 4 inch screen.

I think you know the real answer to this.

Looks like she got smacked in the mouth. F Chapman. Let's go Kimbrel!
Yeah, remember all the snickering when it came out that the Sox had investigated Carl Crawford, looking into his background and what kind of guy he is. What if the Sox had done no such investigation into Chapman and traded for him and then this stuff came out? My god.

He got off rather lucky. 30 games is still a large chunk of change but man, the circumstances of the gun and domestic violence. It could have ended far worse.. The MFY's will shrug their collective shoulders and move on. Their pen is deep and hopefully the'll be on the losing end of most of those 30 games anyway.

Well. Things are off to an excellent start with his new team!
