His name being Charlie Zink is bizarre. Is Charlie even a common name in Curacao? I doubt Zink is a common surname in either country.
This is even weirder than the 2 Steve Ontiveroses-- one of those guys was a pitcher and one an infielder, and they never played for the same team. The Charlie Zinks are from different countries, are both pitchers, and both were in the Red Sox org. Neither went with Charles or Chuck or Chucky for a first name, both Charlie.

Somewhat related, I wish we would try to develop a couple of knuckleballers in the low minors. If the last guy on the pitching staff was somewhat effective with the knuckler and had options, that could really help the rest of the staff avoid overuse over the long season. Having a knuckleballer who could pitch almost every day in low leverage could save the other arms for a tough stretch, then he get sent back down when another pitcher comes back from injury or is rested.
Charles Tadao Zink (8/26/79) - Carmichael, CA

Charlie Mauricio Zink (1/5/06) - Willemstad, Curacao

The 1st Charlie Zink was playing with Portland in early '05.

You have brought the minor league threads back to life. Please reconsider as I am sure you have a lot of support.

Dude, the Dopes here are a little on the [term redacted for mods' sensitivity] side. We all learn to ignore them at our own rates. :D

Welp, you've now caused me to make both my 1st, and 2nd, posts on this board in over 20 yrs of lurking. I'm sure you're humbled. Please don't let the inferiority complex of one dope (did I forget to capitalize that?) drive you away from a site that almost universally agrees your contributions here have elevated the level of discourse, or at least attempted to. Not just in this forum, but on the main board as well. I would rather read your idle musings on the effects that in-season concerts have on the Fenway turf, and corresponding team performance, than most of the reactionary, vitriolic drivel spewed by certain other posters. You've established yourself as one of the most rational, level-headed, and analytically-minded contributors to this board, which has unfortunately, been inching closer and closer to a more well-regulated version of sports talk radio over the past several yrs. Tom Brady ruined this fanbase. We are now the Yankee fans that we used to openly mock. Come back. We need you, bud.

Count me among those who appreciate your effort and insight. I would have added my + in the other thread, but I was working today when all that was going on. I do hope you reconsider and come back. But if you don't, is there somewhere else you'll end up posting your research?

On Wednesday, Major League Baseball announced a new Spring Training event called Spring Breakout coming next March 14-17.

All 30 MLB clubs will assemble rosters filled with 20-25 of their best prospects to take on top Minor League or rookie talents from other organizations. Each team will play at least one seven-inning exhibition game as part of the initiative. One Arizona and one Florida organization will play two over the four days to make the math work.

Twelve of this year’s matchups will be paired with Major League Spring Training games as part of in-stadium doubleheaders, giving fans a peek at their favorite team’s future and present in one memorable day.
This looks fun. Hope it gets good coverage!

Heh, digging deep. We all know that W/L record for a pitcher is close to meaningless but Messinger is 2-18 career in the minors and barely got out of high A at 24.

I was surprised the new Breslow/Bailey regime didn't come up here, do these guys just not have any contact with them till spring?
Yeah he mentioned off air about not having chatted much with them. We heard the same from Jacques when we talked to him.

While the stats might not be there, he is ranked in the top 20 in the Yankees system now. Just transitioned to starter.

According to mlb.com, I don't really buy it based on age, performance thus far or level, but we'll see. Yankee prospect SPs fly upwards these days, so he'd better get moving.

Maybe that's the industry standard, but it's really surprising to me that there isn't a more formal season debrief/offseason guidance in place, especially with a big FO/coaching shakeup like we've had.

I agree with you. I know it’s probably unlikely any of these prospects have heard much but was shocked to hear Jacques, who is a 40-man roster member, not hear from the new FO or pitching coach.

Yeah, it also could be a reflection on where the Yankee’s system is at the moment. They traded a few of their top prospect arms in Soto & Verdugo trades.

It kinda makes me wonder if labor agreements don't allow them to do certain things outside of the season or at least between certain dates? Cause I could definitely see the MLBPA being invested in protecting players' time off universally. There's probably a slippery slope between "we think you could add a slider next year" and "here's the workout plan we need you to follow for the 4 months. "

You probably get from my avatar that I'm a Yankee fan, but mostly I think the primary issue here is that the mlb.com rankings haven't been updated in a while, and they're generally not especially accurate or insightful even right after they have been updated. When they had to add new guys last week because NY moved some, 19 year old Henry Lalane debuted at 14 (and is now up to 12 already). I think these prospect lists need to be updated much more frequently than most of them are if they want to be more accurate, guys are flying upward now like never before, it seems.

Anyway NY has traded something like 20 pitchers since the 2022 deadline, and the reason they've been able to do that is that the next wave is close behind each time. Both Thorpe and Hampton were 2022 picks whose first professional season was 2023, both were in top 100 lists by the end of the season. Like I said above, SP prospects under Matt Blake have been flying upward, so Messinger needs to get into a groove quickly this year or another wave will pass him by.

I am originally from RI , moved to a warmer drier place about 2005 (the PHX-burbs) . I first remember hearing the Red Sox on a newfangled device called a "transistor radio" during the '67 WS and have been a supporter ever since.
