in this century there have not been too many, but Coco going after Shields was fun.Where does this rank amongst all-time great MLB fights?
My personal favourite is still Nolan Ryan's beat down of Ventura

That's about where I'm at. Sometimes you just have to let shit go, yet apparently neither Bautista nor Odor are capable of that level of maturity. But if that's the work environment at the MLB level, nobody should be shocked or appalled this devolved so violently.I think the only lesson we can take away from the entire episode is to remind ourselves that MLB players/coaches/managers are not noted for their emotional/intellectual maturity and/or consistency. Also, the "right way to play the game" trope is something that is used as an all-purpose "get out of jail free" card by people who want to justify their Junior High-level grudges.
Talk about being a bunch of cowards. There were 3 or 4 people holding Coco to the ground and throwing punches.in this century there have not been too many, but Coco going after Shields was fun.
One of them appeared to be Carl Crawford.Talk about being a bunch of cowards. There were 3 or 4 people holding Coco to the ground and throwing punches.
With the Red Sox not on tonight I at least get my run fix for the night haha.
Another of them was certainly Jonny Gomes. One of them appeared to be Carl Crawford.
Brad Asmus partially unrrobed at home plate and placed his jacket on top of the plate, then threw his hat.
Toronto didn't handle it well but Texas truly looks stupid in all of this.I'm not defending Toronto or Bautista, but what seems to be getting overlooked in this was that Texas waited for months and timed their retaliation against Bautista to his last at bat against them all because of a freaking bat flip.
Again, this doesn't mean that anyone is in the right. But if we're going to talk about someone needing to start with the letting go, it's pretty clear who that was.
Let's be honest. Everyone looks equally dumb. Except for Beltre (who got Bautista out of the way) and Fielder (who laughed off the HBP).Toronto didn't handle it well but Texas truly looks stupid in all of this.
Spot on about Prince and Beltre and really about all dumbasses in this as well.Let's be honest. Everyone looks equally dumb. Except for Beltre (who got Bautista out of the way) and Fielder (who laughed off the HBP).
Perhaps Bautista can learn from how Prince reacted. Take your base and try to score the run. It's not like you've never been hit before... intentional or not.
Was Odor's punch not enough? Why is Joey only getting 1 game
What did he do to get more? Took a HBP from an ex-con, almost got nailed by Odors throw, executed a slide thats been legal for 100 years, got shoved and then clocked in the jaw, and was hugged and humped from behind by Adrian Beltre. Why is Joey only getting 1 game
Uhhhh...Bautista could have easily gotten brain damage. What would Odor have to do to get a double digit suspension, pull out an old-timey six-shooter and put a few holes in an opponent? Start a Ron Artest-style melee in the stands? 8 games. Christ. And once he's done whining and pleading, they'll knock that down to 4 on appeal.
Warning happened after the beaningHow does Matt Bush, who hit Bautista after both benches were warning, not get suspended?
I think that's the max for "taking a punch."Why is Joey only getting 1 game
What the fuck are you talking about???Bautista could have easily gotten brain damage. What would Odor have to do to get a double digit suspension, pull out an old-timey six-shooter and put a few holes in an opponent? Start a Ron Artest-style melee in the stands? 8 games. Christ. I beg to differ.Bautista could have easily gotten brain damage. What would Odor have to do to get a double digit suspension, pull out an old-timey six-shooter and put a few holes in an opponent? Start a Ron Artest-style melee in the stands? 8 games. Christ. And once he's done whining and pleading, they'll knock that down to 4 on appeal.
Actually, it's absurd that you would claim that Odor got more games because he had a better right hook. What the fuck are you talking about???
As for those that think it should have been "omg 20 games!!1", do you feel same way every time a punch is thrown in a brawl? I personally think the fact that it connected solidly should have zero bearing on the punishment. Absurd that someone would get more games for being a better right hook.
When kids fight, eventually someone starts to cry and then everyone stops. When adults fight, particularly by surprise or without training, serious shit happens. Not every time, not to the same degree, and not to those like you who've trained for it - but no one should trivialize the life-altering impact that a single well-delivered punch can have. I'd rather get cleated in the legs ten times than get one serious, unexpected hook to the temple.I beg to differ.
He punched him in the jaw and it was no sucker punch so we don't have to worry about brain damage. Bautista was balling his fist as well. When kids fight, eventually someone starts to cry and then everyone stops. When adults fight, particularly by surprise or without training, serious shit happens. Joey bats was winding up to throw one, though. Odor was just faster. Odor has a legit self defense angle, imo. Dude coming at me loads up for a telegraphed right hook, I'm not waiting to see if it lands.Odor is the only person who threw a punch. That's a huge difference in terms of how MLB looks at suspensions.
Then you're suspending Odor for having a quicker right hook, because as others have mentioned Bautista was reaching back and balling his fist up when he got nailed. Bautista tried to play tough guy by doing his little mad dog walk towards Odor too. The suspension is lopsided because of the optics, not fairness.Actually, it's absurd that you would claim that Odor got more games because he had a better right hook.

But this is everything everywhere. The penalty for actually following through on an action is worse than planning or attempting it. Part of it is retribution for the damage done and part of it is confirmation that the actor intended to go all the way. Are you 100% sure that Bautista wouldn't have pulled up last second? Then you're suspending Odor for having a quicker right hook, because as others have mentioned Bautista was reaching back and balling his fist up when he got nailed. That was a fun inning. Covelli and Josh Reddick were 2 of the baserunners who scored.Whoa, Khris Davis with a walkoff grand slam, his third HR of the game. Tolleson is so bad, Cashman needs to have the TEX GM on speed dial.
As a matter of logic, this is preposterous. Odor hit Bautista before he even made a fist. That's not self-defense, that assault.Joey bats was winding up to throw one, though. Odor was just faster. Odor gives him a hard 2 handed shove to the chest. Joey Bats steps his feet into a position to possibly throw a punch but gets his clock cleaned before he ever has a chance to ball his fist.As a matter of logic, this is preposterous. Odor hit Bautista before he even made a fist. That's not self-defense, that assault.
Also, as Marciano pointed out, people who take actions get punished more severely than those who might take them but did not, even if the reason they did not is because the other person struck first.
I get that a lot of people hate Bautista, but it doesn't entitle them to their own set of facts. (Or logic.)
Yes. 100%. If you read Joey's lips carefully, you can see him say "I'm definitely going to punch you Rougned!". He even pronounced Odor's name wrong, the fool! But this is everything everywhere.
