To be fair (to be fayuh) Visconti called a ball three inches off the plate at the letters a stike earlier in the same AB. Ruff should have walked anyway so Roberts really got run for nothing.Jansen blows the save again to SF. Roberts goes crazy and gets ejected after a close bases loaded walk.
Edit. Ohh, Roberts was right. Terrible check swing not called.
Taylor half assed that. That should have been the final out. There was also a simple grounder for the last out htat the Dodgers were too nonchalant on on a force to 2nd and the runner beat t.
Weird year for Kenley. Velocity has ticked back up a couple mph but BB/9 taking a big hit.His control is terrible. Something is clearly wrong.
The last two nights have been a well documented adventure for him. His misses are terrible - I defer to you on his physical condition but based on my experience, something seems wrong.Weird year for Kenley. Velocity has ticked back up a couple mph but BB/9 taking a big hit.
Bellinger with a 0.538 OPS in 167 PA now. Small-ish sample but not that small anymore.
Multiple Mookie injuries have been a big problem for them this year. Back and hip injuries are not great long term indicators.
I don't disagree with you, just saying it's interesting his velocity has been much better this year after long downward trend (and big dip last year). The last two nights have been a well documented adventure for him. It is strange about his velocity. As a side note, I know its probably just me but the Dodgers fans booing this guy is a bad look. He has been so great for so long and maybe this is it. But damn its cold...I don't disagree with you, just saying it's interesting his velocity has been much better this year after long downward trend (and big dip last year).
Still could be some injury or other physical issue.
For sure, super lame if it was for Kenley. It is strange about his velocity. As a side note, I know its probably just me but the Dodgers fans booing this guy is a bad look. He has been so great for so long and maybe this is it. But damn its cold...
looking forward to some seven inning double headers, most likelyDodgers may have a BP Problem. Blown Leads in the 9th and 10th.
Kenley's BB/9 2015-2021: 0.9, 2.1, 2.3, 3.3, 6.1...His control is terrible. Something is clearly wrong.
eh...not as rare as you'd think. It's happened 54 times in the SAME inning. That has happened in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.Bryce Harper stole second, third and home in their game last night. That's gotta be pretty rare.
Home was a pickoff gone bad by the Braves.
Bryce Harper doubled, singled, walked and stole three bases for the first time in his career. He became the first Phillie to steal second, third and home in the same game since Jayson Werth on May 12, 2009.
That is bullshit. The ump called him safe, therefore signaling to Yoan that he touched home plate.
Man, if I had a dollar for every time you could utter that statement.Funny thing is it wasn't even the worst called game yesterday, for that you'd have to go to Angel Hernandez:
The ball coming at him at the same time distracted the ump. He assumed Moncada did touch home plate. That is bullshit. The ump called him safe, therefore signaling to Yoan that he touched home plate.
Why should that make any difference? The ump may well have thought he did touch the plate when he called safe. The whole point of replay is to ensure that the call on the field is correct. The ump called it wrong, replay showed that and reversed it. Nothing bullshit about it.That is bullshit. The ump called him safe, therefore signaling to Yoan that he touched home plate.
If the ump says safe, he assumes he touched the plate, no? Play is over. Done. Why should that make any difference? The ump may well have thought he did touch the plate when he called safe. Yes. But that assumes that the umpire saw that he missed the plate and signaled incorrectly. If he thought Moncada touched the plate, then signaling safe was exactly what he should have done. Then the replay showed otherwise so he was called out. It's no different than any other safe/out call overturned by replay. If the ump says safe, he assumes he touched the plate, no? Play is over. Done.
If the ump makes no call, he may know he hasn't touched home, right?
I disagree. In a case like this, replay should not be allowed. The ump told the player he touched the plate.Yes. But that assumes that the umpire saw that he missed the plate and signaled incorrectly. If he thought Moncada touched the plate, then signaling safe was exactly what he should have done. Then the replay showed otherwise so he was called out. It's no different than any other safe/out call overturned by replay.
And really, Moncada knows more than anyone involved in the play whether he touched the plate. It's a pretty distinct difference in feel between landing on dirt versus landing on the plate, and since he completely the plate, he knew he missed it. Nothing stopped him from going back and touching it even though the ump was signalling otherwise. Especially in the replay challenge era.
By that logic, there should be no replay at all. I mean, if the ump tells a guy he's out, he's out. Who cares if replay shows he beat the throw by a step?I disagree. In a case like this, replay should not be allowed. The ump told the player he touched the plate.
By calling him safe, the play is over, right?By that logic, there should be no replay at all. I mean, if the ump tells a guy he's out, he's out. Who cares if replay shows he beat the throw by a step?
Fuck that’s really good.
I'm actually kind of with PCDF on this one. The difference, to me, is that the umps call ended the flow of the play, so there was no apparent reason for the runner to go back and touch the base. Technically, because the player didn't touch the base, the play wasn't over, so he should have had the opportunity to go back and complete the play, one way or the other. It was the umpire's call that ended the play, not the play truly being over.By that logic, there should be no replay at all. I mean, if the ump tells a guy he's out, he's out. Who cares if replay shows he beat the throw by a step?
Other than the fact that he didn't touch the plate? In the end it's on the runner to do that.I'm actually kind of with PCDF on this one. In your scenario, the play is over either way. The player is either on the bag safely, or not. They aren't really the same thing, because in your scenario there is no theoretical continuation of the play.
I don't think this particular play should have been reviewable. Of course, that's my opinion and not the rulebook, so...
I really want Baez to get traded to the reds. Just for how awkward that clubhouse will get.
He's looking to push himself into the HOF.Reports of Joey Votto's demise are greatly exaggerated. He's hit two home runs tonight, bringing his slash line to .272/.367/.525 (136 wRC+). He was hitting .226/.305/.425 before hitting the IL back in May.
Also made this sick play:
