It’s no different than Jota the other day. The contact did not cause the reaction. It’s simulation. Contact does not mean penalty.

And Gusto should absolutely have been off. How many examples do we have this year of VAR turning that from yellow into a red?

Chelsea hang on for the win. Not much between them and Fulham today, but Poch seems to be getting them to gel. Someone among that overpriced island of misfit toys had to step up as the bell cow, and it's Palmer.

Difference of degree. Jota was farcical. I think Diop caught enough of him to make it a pen. I agree that Sterling went down easy.

my rule of thumb is “would I have a legit gripe of my side were being given the pen” and here I’d have to say you gave the ref something to think about, no real chance at the ball, left that foot in late, might have gone over easy but you can’t be making dumb challenges like that. I know and respect that you have a different opinion on these generally.

I guess, for me, the question is “did he simulate or was his reaction a consequence of the contact.” I don’t think anybody can argue that touch would make him go down like that.

I could live with the penalty and a card for simulation, but I can’t get behind actions like this- which clearly have a rule to punish them- getting fully rewarded.

I respect that. I'm saying it's a pen as per the way things are. You're saying you don't think it's a pen because things should be different (better). FWIW I agree, big-picture-wise.

Just put the flag up. It was so obvious. Not that I care much about Man City getting shafted or whatever, but someone is gonna get hurt.

UPDATE: Someone got hurt.

Stones just got hurt a few weeks ago on another very obvious one. It’s annoying but what can you do really

Tell them to put the flag up when it's that obvious in real time.
We can’t have it both ways. We don’t trust them to make the right offside calls and won’t accept marginal mistakes. So we get Var and delayed offsides which maximizes “correct” outcomes. But now defenders and keepers are going to be put more at risk. I’m not happy to lose all these starting XI players but it’s essentially just unlucky

Continue to think that City just move better, look better, feel more dangerous with Alvarez instead of Haaland

….. but, whoever’s up front, they do fall apart at the back every now and then

We can. I'm not talking about marginal calls. I'm talking about ones that are clearly off. They can simply call them like they always did.

EDIT: To be fair, I assume that the AR thought it was closer than it looked on TV.

Bananas. Another breakaway counter from Isak and City keeper saves a one on one. Can't remember City being as easily sliced open as this.

We are getting sliced open like this every week. All season it’s two shots two goals done on the counter none of this is surprising

I read that Spurs got special dispensation for Werner to need only one opponent between him and the goal to stay onside and that any ball he knocks between the corner flags counts as a goal. Can’t find the article though.

Højlund really bailed Rashford out there with an insane finish. What blind alley Rashford thought he was traveling nobody knows.

That was a perfect corner by Porro and a sublime finish by Richarlison to win the ball in that kind of traffic.

Really hate that card Wan Bissaka just got. Johnson makes an unnatural move to “shield” a ball but really just puts his legs in the path of a slide tackle to buy a foul and a card. It’s doubly dumb because it’s a great way to get hurt but the onus there to me is on the attacker not the defender

Werner is in midseason finishing form.

Onana is way too passive at corners, staying back on his line. He's allowing Spurs to attack balls from inside six yards out.
