He's only saying this post the Gronk/Mayo/Kelly/Wilfork/etc injuries, because he wants the narrative to be the Pats choked in the playoffs like they always do these days.  When they inevitably lose in the playoffs, he'll rip them to shreds instead of approaching the loss rationally by pointing out injuries realistically cost them a shot to win it all.

Riiiiiiiiiight. It has nothing to do with him looking across the league and thinking the Patriots have a legit chance to win the Superbowl, something he's been saying since last season before the Ravens AFC Championship Game.

Most of us felt that way going into the season. The injuries coupled with the play of late vs teams like the texans and browns have unfortunately dampened those expectations.

So they win 2 of 3 of their final games and get the Bye. Then they get a home game against Indy/Cinci/Shitty 6th seed. Chances are KC wins their first playoff game. Then the Pats have to either beat some non-Denver team or Denver in Denver. Seems perfectly reasonable the Patriots can win a home game, then possibly win another home game or beat Denver in Denver.

From your keyboard to gods ears.....I'm as big a belichick and Brady fan as there is, but think loss of gronk at this stage near impossible to overcome. Just look at the difference he made to offense this year, and even in past years when they had more weapons. Just as big of a factor is that what started as a really promising defense looks cooked at this point. Hopefully you guys and felger are right, as it relates to this thread, it's just my opinion that felger doesn't really feel that way, he's just saying it to foster debate on the radio now and to set himself up to rip the pats later. (Sound strategy as a radio host I guess)

Marshall Hook has more interesting yet still reasonable takes than the rest of the program combined. Felger has interesting takes that often aren't reasonable and Mazz has no opinions other than everything sucks.
I don't agree with Hook on everything but at least he has an opinion and he has some reasoning behind it.
If I'm EEI I offer him Salks job tomorrow.

Yeah, caught a bit of this today. Good stuff.

Loved when Felger put Mazz on the spot about asking him how hard it was to find a good fielding, decent hitting SS in MLB these days.

I like Hook a lot too. But he probably wouldn't work as a top guy.

Meanwhile, funny to hear F&M, who so resent the Patriots' nickel-and-diming, cry out against the idea of an additional year for Ortiz.

I heard that too. His stuttering, stammering response was hilarious. He had no idea.

You may be right but damn he is wasted in what he is doing now. I don't hate Beetle but Hook is so much better, at least give him something on the weekend to see what he can do.
I'd also like EEI to have a competitive show in that timeslot for the many days when F&M are unlistenable. I want to like Salk but I can't even stand the sound of his voice at this point.

I think WMB never got married - he and his fiancee broke up last year. But, yes, there's never been any evidence that he and Dell are a couple other than DRS's claim that his friend said so.

EDIT: Sounds like I'm calling out DRS and I'm not - it's just the only place I've seen this alleged coupling mentioned in writing.

A globe article confirms that Jenny Dell is now living with "boyfriend (and third baseman) Will Middlebrooks" so looks like they (and DRS) were right on this one. Is this worth $10?

Maz- I feel great about this game because they haven't had ANY big wins this year!

so Denver and New Orleans were easy wins.
Not listening but does he mean games where they dominated start to finish? No last minute miracles required? If that's where he's going, an argument can be made. But it's Mazz so of you tell me he's just being a dink I'll believe it.

No, just that this was the first time in which they had a win. He did mention "on the road" a few minutes later, so maybe that's what he meant.

Felger mentioned "on the road"; Mazz then repeated the "ANY big wins", Felger added (sotto voce) "on the road" and THEN Mazz added "on the road".

Mazz doesn't watch the games or remember anything about the games. So, while he exclusively talks big picture, he's like a nearsighted person describing something that happened 1000 yards away while they were cleaning their glasses on their shirt.

I did quite enjoy Felger repeating "Belichick is an EXCEPTIONAL head coach, better than everyone working now and probably anyone ever" about 50 times during the opening segment. I think the experience of watching the McCarthy-Tomlin shitshow on a second screen yesterday reminded him to make the BB point excessively.

Felger at maximum DB level today, "There are people in Foxboro who will be upset with Deion Branch for signing with Indy for one game."

So you don't think that there is anyone in Foxboro who raised an eyebrow when Branch signed with the Colts yesterday? I'm not sure why Felger would be a DB for pointing this out, but YMMV I guess.

I dont. They think he's toast, or *they* would have signed him.

Deion is grabbing a paycheck and a chance to re-live his glory days to some degree.

No one aside from - I imagine - some twitter driftwood cares.  That didn't stop Mike Reiss from publishing an entire blog post defending Branch's decision against the onslaught of 45 twitter followers decrying his betrayal.  Not a high point for the guy.

The Pats were ridiculously thin at receiver this year and chose to go with a string of pass-dropping rookies and then Austin Collie and his concussions rather than bring Deion back in for a look.  If Felger knows something specific he should say it, but absent specifics, I would be pretty shocked if anyone who works in any meaningful capacity for the Patriots cared even a little bit that Branch signed with the Colts this week.

Tis the week to manufacture controvery.  Look at Shank's column today.

BB and Pagano are way too smart to give these guys any red meat.  None of these guys have the balls to pick the outright Colts' upset.

So you have Shank going overboard in the other direction (here is some red meat, Colts -- if you win, I'll then trash the Pats), and you have Felger invoking the ugly fan when there is nothing else around.

Felger back at it today, one game for $22K, why do it? How about  potentially 3 games and a shot at another ring, you DB...click

Over to WEEI. what do you make of Shaughnessy's column...click

Talking about the money is so asinine, its really about getting back into the league.  If he wants to extend his career, after being out of the league all year, I am sure he would jump at any chance to get back in and especially at a chance for a playoff team.

Isn't $22K just the veteran's minimum pro-rated for one game?  I don't understand why it's at all significant to the discussion.

It is the amount all players get for playing this week, typical contracts are just for regular season.
I don't know if there is a pay difference for being on the active roster though.

Actually, this sounds dumb but I think the take for a playoff game is less than the regular season. I think Kitna got 50k to watch Orton Romo.

Nothing makes me change the channel faster the the words "Mike from Attleboro".
I'm sorry no one can be that upset every day about anything, does anyone really enjoy his "hot sports takes".

He's a shitty, shitty "celebrity" caller. I wish that the Felger and Mazz adhered to Felger's old show edict of no celebrity callers.

I get it Mike, you're mad about something insignificant. That's nice. Want a cookie?

No, especially not yesterday when he tried to argue that Glavine shouldn't really be considered a HOFer because he wasn't even the best pitcher on his own team (in other words, he wasn't Maddux). He then touted the "eye-ball test" and that anyone who doesn't get 50% on a HOF ballot should get thrown off because HOFers should be "obvious". There's probably a reason he has trained himself to keep ranting without pausing to breathe, because he wouldn't fair too well in an actual back-and-forth discussion.

I've heard Frank a few times lately and at least at this point he keeps it short even saying he needs 37 seconds(or some such odd number) to make his point.
He called in to D&C again today on a Mussina crusade, I expect he'll call F&M today as well.

Sounds like it's time for an all time worst celebrity caller poll. Danny from Quincy has to be a top 1-2 seed.

I wonder with Mike from Attleboro if he's like that all the time when he watches sports? Imagine having season tickets next to him, he'd be insufferable.

It has to be schtick, because no one is that pissed off and worked up all the time. If they were, chances are good they wouldn't watch the thing that makes them so angry any more.

And that's what's so annoying. It's clearly an act, a way to get on the radio and it's beyond boring. 'RYAN SPOONER IS ON THE THIRD F'ING LINE! WTF? THIS IS A GOD DAMN MOTHERF*CKING TRAVESTY! CLAUDE JULIEN HAS HEAD UP HIS ASS ON THIS ONE, MIKE. HAVE ANOTHER FRIBBLE, YOU FRAUD!"

Really. That's the biggest injustice in your life? Reign it in, big boy.

I dunno, SJH is still watching sports.
