Trading Anthony Davis doesn't make your team better. Only times guys like him have been traded is over concerns if theyll resign. His contract is set. They can go 0-82 and they aint trading him.
Exactly.

Winning a Championship isn't the immediate goal of lottery teams. The first is to become competitive and in the playoff mix while building an up and coming roster. Injuries to Tyreke and Dante Cunningham on top of Jrue Holiday's leave of absence have set them back. The Pelicans are 10-12 since their awful start when they were shorthanded and are very respectable now that Holiday has returned. Evans will be back soon and they will likely be a .500 or so team the rest of the way......it isn't like this is the Brooklyn Nets or something.

That's what she said.
When Anthony Davis starts spitting his mouth piece at the opposing team's bench or starting fights with reporters that is when you consider trading him. When he says "I am not resigning back here" is when you actually do trade him. (Boogie.....)

If you have a top five talent under contract for four years on the cheap saying he wants to win with your team you don't trade him. You put a product on the floor that is designed to make money and showcase him. If they start to win, great, if not you still have a superstar.

When Davis is in the last year of his contract and the feeling is that he isn't going to resign there and you aren't going to make the playoffs you consider trading him for a kings ransom. Or you take him to FA where he will be able to make more money with you than anywhere else, and maybe you can keep him away from the town that is tattooed on his biceps.

The thing about Davis is that unless you plan to completely tank for something like 5 years in a row, whatever you get for him is less likely to lead to a title than just Davis.
What they should and probably will do, is move Tyreke Evans for either a draft pick or to dump Asik's contract, and try to extend out Jrue Holiday (only 26).

Building around a Davis/Holiday/Hield (I don't love him but some do) makes sense.

Exactly. All those moves make sense. Their roster is similar to the Wizzards, very, very little high level NBA talent.

The Buddy pick over Jamal Murray really stings them. Murry would be playing 35 a night putting up 19 a game for them right now.

Maybe, maybe not. Jamal Murray is always going to be a 6 2 2 guard w questionable at best defensive abilities. Havent watched enough of either Hield or Murray but wasnt enarmored w Murray during draft research.

Most people who have and did do their research are enamored with Murray's performance. Nate Duncan loves absolutely Jaylen Brown, but he would take Murray over Brown in a heartbeat and probably over Ingram as well.

But if you have him, and still stink, what's the point of having him? Is there any scenario where they win a title by 2021? They're 10-20.

Obviously they're not going to get back full value for him. But last year's third overall plus two more picks that are near locks to be top five is a very good package.
New CBA makes this even more unlikely. Basically requires Davis to leave 75 million on the table. He's a Pelican forever.

Ainge gets Kerr on the horn and tells him to cut the crap. Ws turn a 16-point deficit into a 16-point win.

Today's mock draft at Tankathon looks pretty appealing. Not sure on the player (will let Kliq and HRB hash that out) but love the position.

http://www.tankathon.com/mock_draft
I've made it known that Jackson is my guy but not sure of the fit here with Jaylen there and possibly Hayward coming. I can be sold on Fultz as an Isaiah replacement and a good combo guard partner with Avery as Smart continues in the role he seems to be adapting to well. Ainge has never liked pure points while favoring the combo types as he was as a player and Fultz fits this picture too.

I don't see many trade possibilities out there as the Butlers, Georges, and Cousins imo were never going to be traded simply talked about on clickbait sites. If we can upgrade the 3 with Hayward and add Fultz then oh boy both our present and future starts to look really really good. You want to have your rookies earning minutes off the bench rather than continue entitling them as they have been their entire lives.......forcing Jaylen and Markelle to learn the NBA game and create good habits in competition for minutes is a great way for them to grow as players much like Avery had to do.

With Dallas playing much better (6-8 over last 14) and the Lakers having a 4 game cushion, it's starting to look like it will come down to the Nets, sixers and Suns. I'd guess the Wolves are one of those teams that will pull off a 2nd half run when a lot of other teams are mailing it in.

I love Josh Jackson, but there's virtually no chance that Boston takes him over Markelle Fultz. Especially given his shooting issues. He might figure it out, in which case he's clearly an all star. But Fultz has all the upside with very little of the downside.

Exhibit A - Kawhi Leonard

I hope this is the outcome in the long run. I just hope Isaiah or other vets don't start to rock the boat when they see their time is limited as the franchise guys. But having Jaylen and whoever this pick nets, as contributors it will allow us to offer more money, but Isaiah may not have the role he does now.

I think that's inevitable. He'll be 28 in February and takes a nightly beating throwing himself into rim protectors and crashing into the floor. How long can a 5-9 185lb guy keep that up?

As other players (Jaylen, future picks, Boogie?) develop and pick up some of the offensive slack IT can choose his spots and even play a bit more as a traditional point

Mavs 5-5 in their last 10 games including winning at LAC last night. Might just be a battle with PHI

Miracle win for the Nyets. Charlotte enters the lead pipe list.

Tense race to ten wins.
That was a surprisingly entertaining final quarter, the Nets were playing like their families' lives depended on it, which I guess is the only way they can actually beat anyone.

Just saw that Lin tweaked his hammy. Guessing they'll sit him for quite a bit (again). No reason to push him. He's now been hurt in 25% of their wins.

Minnesota is only going to get better as the year goes on, they have the best collection of under-21 talent since the OKC Durant/Westbrook/Harden/Ibaka team or maybe one of the superloaded Calipari Kentucky teams.

Games like this suck so much cause minny, suns, pelicans might really be that bad and push the nets out of the top 3.
Lin is going to be shelved for a while. Lopez will be on the block along with the other minimal vet talent they have. Nets probably have more downside the rest of the way than any of the other bottomfeeders, just like last season when they decided to sit Lopez and Young and lost every game down the stretch.

edit: You're not wrong of course. That sucked, even more so because I switched on YES just in time to see it happen.

The Pelicans are not "bad" either. Their overall record is primarily a function of an 0-9 start when they were figuring things out while missing 3-4 key rotation players.

Yeah, they're 12-12 since then. Also gotta think Sixers improve when Simmons starts playing.

To me it's all about PHX and DAL. If Nets stay in that "top" 3, there's seemingly enough talent at the top of this draft to be very excited.

Of the 3 Nets picks we acquired there is a good chance that Jaylen could be the worst of those 3......and not from any failure on his behalf. The Nets don't appear to have much hope for next season either and DeAndre Ayton would sure look good in green alongside Jaylen and Markelle.

DeAndre Ayton looks like a super hybrid built for today's NBA.

And, I think Jaylen is already better than James Young, no? Or are you not including the pick swap this year?

Speaking of future prospects, Lonzo Ball's brother's name is LaMelo...

Dallas isn't nearly as bad as their record either.

Probably just forgot about James Young. No one thought that pick had much value at the time anyway since the Nets were projected to make the playoffs.

I wasn't even counting Young as he's a sunk cost. When I referred to Jaylen as possibly worst of the 3 I was referring to this summers pick swap and next summers unprotected Nets pick.

Close call today against the Bulls. The competition has to take them a little more seriously.

Future Celtics championships will be built on win-win nights like tonight.

Wolves @ 76ers
Heat @ Suns

Also Kings @ Nuggets and Wizards @ Mavs but none of those four figure to be in reach for Brooklyn this season.

Mark your calendar for Sunday. Sixers at Nets. I'm sure this will be one of Embiid's "rest" days...
