This is the longest homestand of the season. 10 games vs Toronto, KC and Detroit. Gotta take care of business and finally grab hold of a Wild Card spot.

This really is the fulcrum of the season where they can tip the scales in their favor going into the final stretch. If they just move sideways during this time, I can't see the reinforcements coming being able to make enough of a difference. They have a chance to grab the last SC spot pretty firmly. Houston is looking strong. Tampa has been playing like crap and I can squint and see them continuing their epic collapse but it's unlikely. IMO they really need to go 7-3 at a minimum over this stretch to get a good foothold into that last spot. The reinforcements after that should be good enough to hold off any challenges.

The trade deadline was kind of bland.
Some people think Bloom should be canned.
The moves, or lack thereof, were panned.
(The rumor is he tried but fanned.)
In truth, these Sox are still well-manned.
We don't need to break up the band.
We have our fate in our own hand.
The roadtrip did not go as planned,
but we've still got a chance to land
a playoff spot. Let's take command.
Let's get our heads out of the sand.
Let's try to play a better brand
of ball, so we can move up and
get a lead that we can expand.
(It's pretty tight last time I scanned.)
It all begins with this homestand.
A win tonight would sure be grand.

Do the Blue Jays not have the internet? They are running out an all-RHH lineup against Paxton who has a pretty severe reverse-split going this season. OPS of .587 to RHH vs .782 to LHH. He has a CAREER reverse-split where RHH are .080 OPS below that of LHH. So either they have a spray plot showing how they can use the wall, or they lost all their batting helmets with the right-side ear flap.

Last I read he is playing at least today for the WooSox, but a return this weekend hasn't been ruled out.
I don't get this. He'll be ready tomorrow but not today? Even non-quite-ready Story would be a massive improvement.

There's no guarantee he will be ready Saturday or Sunday either. They are just hoping he is. It's going to come down to when he feels like he is ready to play 9 innings in the majors most every day.

Every time I've seen a pitcher reverse split situation in a game, it seems the opposing team goes with convention anyway. Like convention trumps all. Hopefully, Pax mows tons of pricks down, as is the conventional phrase here.

They're just a very RH-hitting team. They're starting LH Varsho, the only other LH they have are Belt (hot lately), Kiermaier and Cavan Biggio... none of whom generally play vs. lefties, nor really deserve to.

Urias becomes the ninth player to play 2B for the Red Sox this season ... unless he gets injured going out to his position to begin the game

Is that the quickest ever heard “going for the Downs” in a game?

Crap.

Let’s hope for the rain to wash those homers away.
