Same—Story is not a pitcher so I'm generally skeptical of the idea that the surgery he just recovered from is not generally going to be protective enough of the elbow for at least the next year or so before Mayer is potentially ready.

I also tend to think the distribution of Rafaela's games by position is pretty indicative of where the org sees him on the field. The upper minors teams haven't exactly been overflowing with middle infielders (until this year) but he is still getting the vast majority of his innings in the OF.
Agree with all this. They will need to fill a MI spot somehow if Urias fails to start hitting, but yeah.

I don't really want to alarm the main board about this, but I've seen some concern on Twitter about Jarren Duran's well-being based on his Instagram posting.

I guess it's this?

Idk who is starting for Portland today, so quick look at the rotation...

Wednesday 8/9 Sharp
Thursday 8/10 Dobbins
Friday 8/11 Liu
Saturday 8/12 Coffey
Sunday 8/13 Wikelman
Tuesday 8/15 Gambrell

So I'll just assume it's going to be Sharp?

Which reminds me of my WHERE IS PERALES problem:

To reconstruct the rotation...

Tuesday 8/8 Perales
Wednesday 8/9 DiValerio/Song
Thursday 8/10 Encarnacion
Friday 8/11 Rogers
Saturday 8/12 Bastardo
Sunday 8/13 Song/DiValerio

So yeah, would definitely expect it to be Perales's turn. Hopefully he's ok. Wasn't great his last time out (6 runs, 5 earned in 5 innings...although idk why they sent him back out for the 5th to allow 3 of those).
Yesterday was Encarnacion
Today MiLB says Rogers
Tomorrow MiLB says Song
Friday says Bastardo
Saturday says PERALES

Most of our teams don't even have a day in advance...very impressive submissions from Greenville lol

So I guess Perales is off from the 8th to the 19th. Maybe a bit of load management. I'm cool.

Montero (#162) played 6 games in July & got a hit in every one of them.

He went 7-16 (.438) with 3 doubles & 2 walks, 1 HBP, & only 1 strikeout.

He was 2-23 (.087) in his 7 games in June with 1 walk, 1 HBP & 8 strikeouts...

A more Chaim like move would be to move Verduga and his salary.
It's too bad he's so redundant with the current roster. He's a guy that I don't really have a great feel for how well his hit tool will translate, so it could be really useful to get him some MLB ABs if the plan really would be to replace Verdugo with him.

Do you think his hit tool looks all that different from Casas's? Wilyer posting a weak BABIP but his best average 2019.

Casas last year:

69226
Wilyer:
69227

The year-over-year differences in power between the leagues is striking. @LogansDad Wilyer with a nearly identical OBP and a SLG% 30 points higher is a WRC+ 120, while Casas was a 127 the year before.

The other peripherals are really encouraging for a comparison, though. But yeah, I'd like to hear what people thought of his hit tool. He seems to have made some strides in the regard, but maybe it's just the league.

The fact that he has 9 doubles all season just boggles my mind. Usually power hitters also hit doubles. So I think he has weirder translation issues than most.

Sounds like Morgan Burkhart.
I'd like to acknowledge this post. For a guy who did so little for the major league team, Morgan Burkhart left an indelible mark on my then-youthful memory. He was built like a fire hydrant, ran about as well as one, and when he was hit by a pitch he shrugged it off much as you'd imagine a fire hydrant would.

Zach Penrod is a 26 y/o lefty with control problems.

In 54.1 innings of independent ball this season, he has 32 walks & 65 strikeouts. 2.98 ERA.

Buuuuuut they have lots of filler in Greenville's bullpen, so YOLO.

Mikey Romero got a single in the top of the 4th for Greenville's 1st base runner but Allan Castro immediately GIDP.

Teel will lead off the 5th. Greenville will be down at least 2-0.

SoxProspects hasn't Tweeted in the last 20 hours.

Half of me is hoping they postthree projected starters soon & they're all wrong.

Meidroth single + Hickey single + Sikes homer = 7-1 Portland
