Anyone else noticing a significant disparity in the pitch clock mechanics. In the Rays game, they started it late every time. In the Brewers game, it is regular season speed.
This is a good point. An injury to a key player, especially a pitcher, could be disheartening
It's such a shame, too. When you lose one of your top pitchers right when the playoffs are about to begin, that definitely stings.
Woah, the Brewers are hot in this inning! They've got the tying run at the plate with 0 outs!!!
Big psychological moment right here! If the Brewers score, they'll likely feel more confident. If they don't score, it's probably over.
Tangential point--he's only 53 so maybe he wants a new challenge, but I've always thought that the Brewers were a destination job for Counsell. I think he'll hate working in NY.

Meh. People only say that about the Rays and A’s. The Yankees have won the WS once in their last 18 postseason appearances. Postseason isn’t *all* luck. But a lot of it is.

Really good decision by Carroll, though. Young dude like him, it had to be hard to resist trying to make an awesome, but impossible play.
A little Craig Counsell story...I was managing a nightclub here on Maui early 90's. Hawaii had a Winter League of Baseball affiliates from Japan and MLB.
Counsell was the only player to play two Winters in a row, the first couple years. All these young guys would hang out there after the games. We were a sponsor. So I got to spend a lot of time talking with the guys. Counsell was one of the nicest more focused guys. Just a lot of fun to get to know. He's the real deal. He's about to get paid and deserves it all.

That bunt really got them started. What a great play. Got the crowd going, ratcheted up the pressure. Amazing what one great play can do,
I had not put two and two together — I forgot his big time history as a diamondback. He had a little Pedroia in him as a player — not as good obviously, but a real dirt dog.
If you asked me to draw a picture of someone named Jake Burger I would have drawn someone who looks exactly like the real Jake Burger who I have never seen until he made that error.
