The Clippers have looked like they are the best team in the league for awhile now, but it's still just a moment in time. They weren't as bad as they looked when they were started off 0-5 with Harden, but they probably aren't as good as they looked when they had that 20-2 stretch with Kawhi (which ended with their blowout win over Boston) and everyone was crowning their ass. One of my favorite random facts from last year is that the team with the best record from December 1 through the end of the year (50 games) was...Philadelphia. Healthy Clippers have looked scary, but they're still led by the most injury prone superstar since Walton and a point guard with the richest history of playoff underachievement west of Pennsylvania.

The Miami deep bench is putting it on the Bucks and Coach Baelish up by 27 with just over eight minutes left in the fourth. Nikola Jovic has culture apparently.

Not a lot of defense being played in Phx, but entertaining game. Rooting for the Kings but they just can’t get a stop.

I'm not all that surprised---I'd put chances Lebron is elsehwere next year close to 50%

As with Ramona Laker stories you appreciate the access and can also pretty much assume Buss' publicist wrote sections of it. So the "Lebron is committed to Lakers'" bit lands for me as her spinning the reality that Lebron didn't crush this at first mention.

So, Ben Simmons has one more year on his contract after this one at $40 million (?!?!?!). What do you think his market will be like when he's an UFA after that? Will he set the record for biggest salary reduction? Although, I guess John Wall probably already has that locked up.

Russ went from max to almost min in a year too.

Simmons' market is probably a minimum contract, or maybe a bit above that for a team that really sells itself that it can fix him.

Has there ever been a more obvious contract year than next seasons Ben Simmons contract year? His could be a very confusing market but doubt many will fall for it should this occur. It only takes one though.

He doesn't seem to care much about basketball anymore, so yeah, I could actually see him going nuts in a contract year to get one last bag and then go back to shopping in LA.

I didn’t see last nights games but he has been playing hard and connected in 3 of the games I saw earlier this month. Mentioned in Silver Dollar but when his minutes restriction is lifted he’s primed to begin putting up some big numbers imo.

That Lebron-Warriors story is fascinating. What would they have even offered? Guessing it would have been Kuminga and Klay plus picks, but that doesn’t do much for LA.

The funny thing is I was listening yesterday to the Simmons-Murdock discussion of the Warriors and they were pontificating that Steph and Draymond would rather keep it together and lose with Klay than break up the core for greater championship equity. Maybe not.

In this particular case I think we have to put a reasonable likelihood on the possibility that the guy just retires. He'll have earned over $200M, and doesn't appear to particularly like playing basketball. What's the marginal gain to him of making a few more million as a vet for a few more years of his life, when he could just go back to Australia and do whatever suits his whimsy? Frankly, any prospective acquirer looking to sign him needs to reckon with this possibility, that they'll put pen to paper and then he'll either retire or resume acting like he's retired. Bit of a vicious circle to that, with respect to his valuation: the more there's the perception of it, the more it drives his value down, and the likelier the possibility of him ceasing to give any shit at all might become.

A reasonable offer would be Kuminga, Moody, Paul, Saric, Santos plus 2027 and 2029 unprotected #1 picks. That trade works in the Trade Machine. Gives AD a quality young teammate (and I haven't given up on Moody yet) and also gets the Lakers some picks that they desperately need. Plus Saric and Paul are expiring contracts, so that frees up a nice chunk of change to bring in someone else this off-season.

Another possibility, according to the trade machine, would've been Kuminga, Moody, Paul, Klay, Saric and picks for D'Angelo and LBJ. That opens up a TON of cap space in the off-season for LA, but was undoubtedly a non-starter for the Warriors for multiple reasons (i.e., they hate D'Angelo and wouldn't want his contract (he has a player option for next year), and wouldn't have time to flip him, they don't want to trade Klay, etc.).

I’d have to think Draymond was involved being that LeBron would essentially be taking over his role in the offense and his positional role defensively.

I had been thinking Ben Simmons would be really interesting for the Celtics on a minimum contract as a point center/sub for Horford, since you could surround him with enough shooting, but the hack-a-Ben strategy Joe ruthlessly unleashed seemed to take all the spirit right out of him.

Like, you could see the life drain right out of him the second he missed his first free throw.

While it's such a unique situation it's hard to be sure what was offered, I personally believe there is no chance there was that level of assets offered for a potential pending FA (player option for next year). Even if that player is LBJ.

I could believe that part of the discussion was whether LBJ would opt-in as part of the deal, which makes it more viable for GS (but likely still not to the level above!)

Curious if more details on of the offer and whether there were any contract negotiations leak out....a lot is possible as it's a unique player and situation here

Nikola Vucevic is rarely mentioned among the worst players in the league, but he's been a defensive liability for years and his offensive efficiency has tanked. 4-16 with 9 points tonight, in a game Chicago is trailing in the closing seconds.
