You're not the only one. A group of us were watching after golf and said the same thing. It was frustrating. Of course, it's not really up to them either. They have contractual obligations both on how long they can cover some things and how long they have to cover others.Just wanted to vent at Golf Channel for leaving the Euro Tour playoff to go to their pregame show. It only went one more hole and was won on the latest in a string of fabulous putts by the champion. I might be the only one who gives a crap about this, but it was frustrating.
And they are just three rounds!edit ... and shouldn't the LIV tournaments just be three rounds?
Yes ... that's why I asked in the first placeI thought they should be 54
Not sure what the committment is in years, but if the north of $100 million is true, DJ essentially doubled his career on-course earnings:I heard it from a very good source DJ got "north of $100mil to play...
HV3 not on the announced listI’m with you. Seems like a real good dude, I always pull for him when he is in the mix. Could be way off on the LIV stuff but he did win the Saudi tourney this year.
Still a lot of rumors. The NLU guys say they're hearing Varner III is waiting for the OWGR stuff to be sorted out. Kokrak is another guy who is probably going (and has all but said he is), but supposedly has a wedding to attend the week of the first event, hence not on the list.HV3 not on the announced list
Yeah. As a fan, the only weeks when all the top players are competing in the same event are the majors. As long as those stay in tact, who cares.Just let them go, why even bother. This league is going to fall flat on it's face or be a secondary tour like the Euro tour.
The thing to be concerned about is they basically have unlimited money to throw at players. If this thing gets a little momentum and more players jump ship, it could create some issues for the tour. My guess is there are a handful of players watching how this all shakes out before deciding their next move.Yeah. I do think it'll be interesting to see if DJ making the leap leads to other top players leaving. I won't miss DJ at the Canadian Open, Travelers Championship or whatever run of the mill weekly Tour stop. If DJ becomes DJ plus Bryson, Xander, Sam Burns, etc. (no specific rumors for Xander or Burns just pulling random names) that would kind of suck and impact the viewing experience.
The only thing I have seen is that they are planning to show it for free on Youtube and the internet.Maybe I missed it but is there even a tv deal in place?
I've played in tournaments with that format. It's a blastBrady/Rodgers vs Allen/Mahones match is on. Seems like a strange format, select a drive then best ball from there?

I’m sitting in my room at the Encore with a good view of the Wynn course. I was going to go and watch but they wanted $250 to get in. For few more bucks I could play it (I played a few years ago and it’s very nice). So, I’m looking out the window and watching it on Tv.I've played in tournaments with that format. It's a blast

Is it inaccurate to say that these guys are simply jumping at the chance to increase their earnings from many millions to tens of millions by playing easier tournaments with less competition?Yeah. As a fan, the only weeks when all the top players are competing in the same event are the majors. As long as those stay in tact, who cares.

And then when the Saudis decide to stop throwing money away (that *will* happen, won't it?) the players will come crawling back to the PGA which will take them to fill fields with competitive playersIs it inaccurate to say that these guys are simply jumping at the chance to increase their earnings from many millions to tens of millions by playing easier tournaments with less competition?
I think there's a political component working in the background here that I can't quite articulate, nor would I in this thread. And then when the Saudis decide to stop throwing money away (that *will* happen, won't it?) the players will come crawling back to the PGA which will take them to fill fields with competitive players
The idea that Phil is the “biggest fish” is laughable.
Absence of competition for some, guaranteed appearance fees for most. DJ will have to win a bunch of tournaments before his winnings surpass the $125M he gets just for showing up.Is it inaccurate to say that these guys are simply jumping at the chance to increase their earnings from many millions to tens of millions by playing easier tournaments with less competition?
I think you're right, and I also think the tour is going to try and snipe the next wave of big guns with (for LIV) relatively small money. If you're a real hotshot amateur and get offered $20MM (or whatever) in guaranteed cash to play LIV, that's life altering money that it may be worth nuking your chances to play in the PGA tour for, even before you get to the prize money. I'm very interested to see how it plays out.I must say, this is gaining more steam than I thought it would. This new tour only has 8 tournaments so these guys will be freeing up a ton of time, if the money is better or equal. Real question I have is regarding off course endorsements. Certainly won't be much on the domestic side but possible international endorsements may come.
Norman indicated that Tiger turned down a "high 9 figure" amount to join. Now, that would have been something. Norman is banking on some random dudes winning these $4-6M 1st place prizes and other guys saying, hey, I can beat these guys. 17 guys made $5M or more on the tour last year. Obviously, endorsements are where they really make the money but if you're some "average" player making $2-3M / year without a huge endorsement deal, you may be tempted by this arrangement. Problem is the Saudis could change their mind at any time and then you've burned your bridge. But if you're a guy like DJ getting $125M upfront, you probably don't really care.
Piot has never appeared in the WAGR top 40. He’s a good amateur golfer who got hot one week during the US Amatuer and won the match play event. Financially, he’d be dumb not to take the money even if LIV disappeared tomorrow because he has scant odds of ever earning a tour card. They got James Piot, the reigning US Am champ with exactly that type of offer. Guaranteed money right out of college as opposed to having to perform well to earn.
He's not a member of the Tour yet, so what jurisdiction do they have over him? They got James Piot, the reigning US Am champ with exactly that type of offer. Guaranteed money right out of college as opposed to having to perform well to earn.
Right. It's far more likely Piot is the next Andy Ogletree (fellow LIV golfer!) than a Phil Mickelson. Totally agree with his decision. I think LIV is going to target a lot of these young kids and hope that one hits as a star. Of course, I'm not sure they can become a star by beating Graeme McDowell and Ian Poulter a few times a year on YouTube, but it does make financial sense for the players.Piot has never appeared in the WAGR top 40. The day's earlyI suppose arguing about politeness is an improvement over dragging him into the basement to meat Mr. Bonesaw.
