Tate is probably going to use Landry as a comp. Chip off some for age for sure but I doubt he is going to take less than 12-14 million. I bet he ends up a Steeler. Humphries’ market will be interesting.

I imagine the pats pitch to these guys is pretty simple---they have a number, or at least a range, and they pitch playing in New England with a completely unique opportunity to compete for a title. And if you don't want to take their offer, they will absolutely walk and go to the next guy and not worry too much.

Tate sent a signal he's interested, he knows they aren't going to set the market price-wise, and we'll see what his priorities are. I don't begrudge anyone in the NFL taking the biggest offer--careers are just too short. But some guys, and at the right point in their career, are ok with less too.

Chiefs are placing their franchise tag on LB Dee Ford today and plan to play with him this season, but with the change to a 4-3 defensive scheme, they will listen to trade offers for their franchised player, per league sources.

Here in Indianapolis sources tell me the Washington Redskins have openly spoken about trading for Josh Rosen, IF the quarterback becomes available.
It’s THE most sensible thing Wash can do IF they like him. A hell of a lot more sensible than trading for Joe Flacco or Antonio Brown, which would be signature Wash moves.

Alex Smith probably does not play again and will carry a big cap hit. Rosen is on a rookie contract. Murray and Haskins won’t be there at 15.

It's almost too sensible for Washington to make a move like that

I feel like they're really offsides with this move.

That's encroaching a move that's not worth the risk.

Isn’t Flacco already to Denver? I thought it was wrapped up but they just needed to wait on a date to figure out bonuses, dead money, etc...?

Yes, signed up. Word here and out of Denver is that Denver acted quickly because Wash was lurking. Bruce Allen denies it. Bruce Allen lies like a rug.

So Murray has gone from "probably not a first rounder" to "#1 overall to the Cardinals" in a matter of a few days? He must've had an impressive combine.

Meanwhile, the lack of high-round draft picks getting traded in the NFL never ceases to astound me. It's as if everyone's scared to trade them because the upside of winning a bet against another team's finish doesn't match the downside of potentially being made to look foolish (and someone in their position can't afford that!). By round, here are the number of picks traded:

1st: 3 (none higher than #24)
2nd: 5 (#34, then nothing till #53)
3rd: 5
4th: 5
5th: 5
6th: 8
7th: 17 (wtf?)

I think it's more the cost of those high draft picks. Look at the draft day deals the past few years:

2018
Arizona traded 15, 79, 152 to Oakland for 10
Buffalo traded 12, 53, 56 to Tampa for 7, 255
NO traded 27, 147, and 2019 1st (30) to GB for 14
GB traded 27, 76, 186 to Seattle for 18, 248
Baltimore traded 52, 125 and 2019 2nd (53) to Philly for 32, 132
Tennessee traded 25, 125 to Baltimore for 22, 215

2017
Atlanta traded 31, 95, 249 to Seattle for 26
KC traded 27, 91 and 2018 1st (22) to Buffalo for 10
Chicago traded 3, 67, 11, and 2018 3rd (70) to SF for 2
Houston traded 25 and 2018 1st (4) to Cleveland for 12
Cleveland traded 33, 108 to GB for 29

I could go on with the Wentz and Goff trades too, but it seems obvious the higher those picks go, the higher the cost to acquire them and I think more teams are learning to value their draft picks more.

Updated: #Browns LB Jamie Collins will likely be traded, released or restructured soon. If Browns can trade him, team would likely re-work his deal. Has bases of $10.5M and $12.5M but he's already earned all of his $26.4M guaranteed from Browns

Officially no franchise tag for Landon Collins. I really don't know how the Giants are letting him get to the market.

I love Patrick Chung but Collins would certainly intrigue me as a SS replacement. Doubt BB would put so many resources at safety though.

Ravens are cutting Eric Weddle. I assume he'll be too expensive for the Pats to consider bringing in.

He's 34. I doubt he gets big money, Baltimore preferred $7.5m to having him. I'm not sure he's a great fit though, the team has other needs.

I don't think that matters. They still have 18 or so, enough to get a deal done and probably have 6-8 left over. They could also agree on a number without officially signing until the Flacco trade goes through, ordering their own operations.

Baltimore needs to pay Mosley.
They are doing what the Pats are doing with Flowers. Love you back, test the market.

We’re getting enough years behind us to conclude that some of the better run teams are out of the hardass tag business. It’s just not worth the trouble save exceptional cases.
