Patriots WR Julian Edelman, on Jacoby Brissett: "He's worked hard. He handles himself well. And I'm excited to see how we prepare together this week to play the Houston Texans."

Mccourty with a strange answer to a question I didn't hear but it had to be about Jimmy's injury: "we don't want to see anybody get hurt but we have a lot of guys chomping at the bit dying to get out there...it's next man up." McC's generally sharp, but the first part of that is something you say about an opposing player, not a teammate.

BB on CSNNE now. New haircut.

"A lot of guys played well, happy to have the win."

My God, these reporters are in total fear of him. Obviously, he won't answer anything about Jimmy, but they're all afraid to ask about it.

You're reading into it too much. He's saying "It sucks, but the team will step up and do what we have to do."

Collapsed lung (PTX) would have most likely been visible on XR, although small collapses can be difficult to detect/missed. A CT scan would certainly identify a ptx. A small one needs no treatment but any moderate sized ptx requires a chest tube. Not unheard of given the mechanism but it would be an unusual injury given the way he was hit.

The collapsed lung was a Bledsoe/Brady reference.

Now the guys on CSNNE say the same thing (why didn't someone ask about Jimmy)?

Troy Brown thinks he's out for weeks; the pain alone won't allow him to play. Troy had similar injuries and couldn't play as a WR, and this is his (Jimmy's) throwing arm.

Actually, not a Bledsoe reference. Spoke to my dad, who was at the game today and is out tailgating, and he said the news was a collapsed lung. I assume he doesn't have better information in the parking lot than I do online, so I'm assuming he's wrong.

Disagree, you just don't say it that way. He made it sound like the good news is Brisset got to play. There is no good news.
You're seeing something that's not there. He's expressing confidence in the guy who has to play, not bemoaning the injury. It's their press strategy regarding injuries, if nothing else.

This is the most Patriot of answers. All players want to play it doesn't mean other players see it as a good thing that someone got hurt.
OFT, I assume it was originally a Bledsoe reference that got misconstrued somewhere along the line.

It was too stoic, or the Patriot way to the extreme. He should have said it was a tough break for Jimmy, who was doing so well. The statement "you hate to see anybody get hurt"is what you say about an opponent, being nice. You don't say put it that way about a teammate.

No, he's saying that from Brissett's perspective, it's a good thing that he (Brissett) gets to play. NFL players usually have an incredibly short lifespan, and should want to take opportunities whenever they come up, even if it comes at the expense of an injury to a teammate. When McCourty says "We" is he referring to all NFL players wanting to get a chance to start, regardless of how. He's not saying the Patriots are happy that Jimmy might be out.

Brown's comment rings true and is reinforced by players' next-man-up and champing-at-bit comments.

Job 1 is to keep Brissett in one piece Thursday, the following Sunday and probably a couple of weeks after that.

Tom is back in 2 weeks, but Edelman is no answer if Brissett goes down and Tom were to get hurt after he comes back.

so do we go "in house" with Brissett or go to the FA route....
They need a second healthy quarterback for Thursday night, and presumably for game 4 as well. So there's likely a FA signing tongiht to maximize prep time

Brissett will start both games unless he is a disaster. A FA will be brought in to back him up.

So ends Jimmy's NE career? Enough tape to entice a gm for a first and a second?

They'll add a body but losing all three QBs to injury probably just means not their year
