Must say it was surreal listening to Ryan go off on the New England media when he was the one talking about the Patriots during Jets week
Mike Petraglia ‏@Trags 7m7 minutes ago
Rex is genuinely pissed at the media.

Michael Giardi ‏@MikeGiardi 7m7 minutes ago
"We got no business being on the field with them...so don't talk to me. You guys have all the answers." Rex Ryan annoyed with line of ????s

Mark Daniels ‏@MarkDanielsPJ 8m8 minutes ago
Rex said we're saying that "You've got no business being on the same field" so he's unhappy.

Mark Daniels ‏@MarkDanielsPJ 9m9 minutes ago
Rex is saying we spin his words.

Mike Petraglia ‏@Trags 9m9 minutes ago
Rex: "I know you guys always say I'm obsessed with them. You're obsessed with them. Not me. You talk about them every day."

Mike Petraglia ‏@Trags 10m10 minutes ago
"The only reason I talk about them is they're the best." Rex

We played em tough

Made em earn it

Played em tougher than anyone else

Etc
So basically, then, Rex has become the whetstone that makes the Pats a little sharper as they slice through the league, and his teams are collateral damage in the equation?

Start counting how many times he says "I." "I got into Brady's face," "I slowed 'em down" etc. Double digits, guaranteed.
Q: During the game, [Tom] Brady called your name while calling signals in the opening drive. Were you aware of that?

RR: He was calling what - my name?

Q: 'Rex Ryan', as he was calling signals on one of the plays pre-snap, were you aware of that?

RR: He likes me, I know that. I was calling him Brady, too.
Admit it, that's fucking funny.

ETA: PC transcript. Not a lot of "I" except for where the first-person pronoun is expected - like "I hope he's (Taylor) ready."

Looks like you lost that bet, not that it matters. Rex was really complimentary of the Pats after the game. Glad we won and won't have to listen to that blowhard for another year.

The Bills D was much better with pressure, even when not loading up for bear and bringing more than 3-4. Jerry Hughes was night/day better this game and was a beast. Rex seems to step it up and really mess up Brady's reads and disrupt his timing. And had just enough personnel to do it, which is why "omg the rest of the league can just follow this plan to beat TB" isn't a given.

The defense was really good, but the Patriots also lost 2 of their 4 WRs, which meant that any 3 (or) 4WR sets were unavailable. Any efforts to "spread out the defense" were pretty useless when Blount or Chandler were lined up outside the numbers

Nothing yet. Night game on the road, so they likely aren't going to have anything this early.

Anyone have updates on Taylor's health?
IANAD, but it sure looked like he was playing through a broken collarbone, given the way he was acting and how different the ball looked coming out of his hand. If so - he's a tough SOB.

Even if it's a different injury, he really impressed me last night, both with his play and his toughness.

Grade 1 separated shoulder is my guess.

I don't think Rex's ego or need to protect "his" defense could handle it, but Buffalo would be really well served to bring in a coordinator better than Greg Roman to take advantage of what they have on the offensive side of the ball. I am a Taylor believer and was also impressed as hell with his toughness and poise last night.

Thank you for saying this. There was no reason for him to tumble down to the turf after the love tap he got. But I do continue to be impressed by him. He throws a great deep ball and is pretty elusive in the pocket as Nink and Sheard can attest to.
Didn't they mention that he had a recent knee injury? He may have rolled over the knee in an attempt not to injure it... or he couldn't support himself falling on that knee?

Those exotic rushes/blitzes are a double-edged sword, especially against Brady. On the TD pass near the end of the first half, White ran a wheel route and the Bills' coverage dictated that he be covered by the linebacker who lined up on the other side of the formation. It's tough for the O-line to pick up, but if they can hold back the pass rush here and there, there will be big play opportunities.

Gruden covered that play well coming out for the 2nd half, pointing out exactly what you did. Rare good analysis on his part.

Is it possible to throw the ball with zip, similar to the way Taylor was throwing after the self-inflicted injury, with a grade 1 separated shoulder?

Yes absolutely. I could do judo with same injury. Weird thing about that injury is that it hurts the most when trying to sleep

I had a grade 3 in high school and I can certainly back you up that sleep is the worst part of it. I used to sleep with about six pillows behind me to make sure I didn't roll onto my left side. Worst pain I've ever endured, luckily. Broken bones, serious wounds, etc, there are still night i wake up in pretty serious pain and it's almost twenty years later, but I've never had issue since with motion or throwing or playing golf, etc. it quite literally never bothers me unless I sleep on it wrong.

413 total yards allowed to KC. 21 first downs. 30 more points allowed.

Remember kids, Rex said if they weren't first in the league in defense this year he'd be disappointed. So far..disappoint away, fuckface.

He chose not to challenge what looked like a catch that was ruled incomplete that would have given them a first down. This happened on third down with just over two minutes left on their own 20 or so. They ended up going for it on the next play and although Taylor came close on a great run, he came up about a half-yard short. Chief's ball.

Next week is basically a wild card game for the Bills. Lose to the Texans and they're almost done.

He didn't challenge the Maclin catch in the 2nd quarter either. That gave KC the ball 1st and goal at the 3. The Chiefs ran the next play quickly, but the Bills, or any team, should be prepared to challenge in that situation.

"We want to be the best (defense) in history -- one of the greatest," linebacker Nigel Bradhamrecently said, via the Toronto Sun. "That's what we're striving for ... the greatest of all time, not just this year or last year."

That sounds reasonable. The Bills' defense is one of the most talented units in the league. Why not strive to make history?

"Best ever," Pro Bowl defensive tackle Marcell Dareus said of the Bills' goal. "It's so obtainable. All we have to do is continue to do what we want, and not what we can. If we do what we want, and do everything to head in that direction, why can't we? Why can't we?"

It's shocking to me that players buy into that at all. For Nigel Bradham to buy into being a part of the greatest defense of all time suggests he's unbelievably stupid.

It is shocking to you that players have unrealistic goals or self-perceptions?

If Nigel Bradham said "well, actually we're just hoping to be good enough to win games. Historic greatness is far beyond us" it would be so out-of-character for a football player the NFL might invoke the concussion protocol for the first time in history.

Or conversely, to end this year better than last year, they can only give up 31 more points in their remaining 5 games (6.2 PPG)

Edit: oh and if they want to lead the league in defense (in terms of yards) in all likelihood they are going to have to average giving up < 200 YPG for the last 5 games

That's certainly attainable for the best defense ever.

They just have to do what they want, not what they can.

Speaking of the best defense ever, the 2000 Ravens, which some believe to be the best, gave up 165 points (10.3 / game). So, as long as the Bills give up -90 points in the next 5 games, that claim will appear to have been reasonable.

15 more accepted penalties for The Bullies today in a 3 point loss on the road to Philly. Buffalo needs to win out to have any shot at a Wild Card. With how hot Pitt and KC are, 9-7 likely will not be good enough anyway.
