I like the trade better for the Nets.
I think its great for Philly as well, but I think they need to win in the next two years.

maybe not. 2027/28 is a long way away, not impossible Harden is truly done by then, and Embiid will be well into his 30s.This is the right trade for both teams, and it will be nice to see Ben back out there.
Good on Brooklyn for grabbing two firsts in the deal. I know that they're low firsts, but top heavy rosters can use role players. Most of the ring-chasers the last few years have been more chaff than wheat. And Curry helps a lot.
THis is a real indication of how people have overly soured on Simmons....This felt like an inevitable trade. Great deal for both squads. The Nets take on a bit more short term risk, in my opinion, which is what the two low firsts mitigate against. But Simmons fits what they're trying to do and they extend their window a bit.
The Sixers had to pull the trigger and honestly they got Harden for a relative steal.
1) Simmons playing zero games is worth nothing to the Sixers.THis is a real indication of how people have overly soured on Simmons....
this is more than PHI was supposedly offerring for Harden last year, honestly significantly more I think... and you get a year less of Harden before the extension.
yeah, am salivating for that series.A playoff series between these teams will be a lot of fun.
The rumor last year was Houston wanted Simmons, Maxey, Thybulle and 3-4 first round picks from Philly. That’s a lot more than they paid today, even though I really like Curry.THis is a real indication of how people have overly soured on Simmons....

He already agreed to pick up his option as a condition of the trade.Philly had to give up Simmons, players and 2 first round picks ...all for the pleasure of bringing in Harden who is potentially a FA at the end of the season, and has a player option for 47 million, and quit on the last 2 teams. UHHHH thats something.
I assume he's also gotten a tacit agreement from Morey that he'll be extended as soon as eligibleHe already agreed to pick up his option as a condition of the trade.
yep,Does this mean the 76ers will be able to give him the 5-year supermax next off-season starting at like $50m/year? That will be fun.
I think Simmons in particular has a great chance to win a title. Playing with KD does that for you.The trade is a wash. 2 star players who frankly won't win a title. I'm not making that big of a deal over this one because of that. I don't think Harden or Simmons are winning players.
yep,
- 2022-23: $47,366,760
- 2023-24: $49,735,098
- 2024-25: $53,713,906
- 2025-26: $57,692,714
- 2026-27: $61,671,522
- Total: Five years, $270,180,000
Plenty of time for him to mope his way off of yet another team before then.I assume he's also gotten a tacit agreement from Morey that he'll be extended as soon as eligible
The 2022-23 season is on his current contract (player option). I'd be inclined to let him walk after that. I would not want to pay anywhere near that much money for Harden's age 34-38 seasons.yep,

Read what I wrote again, it wasn’t a compliment of Harden. And yes, tampering with a direct competitor’s players to convince them to punt the season is the very definition of maximum sleaziness. The “But other teams are scummy too!!!” defense doesn’t work.huh? Dude quit on multiple teams, had his agent narrow the field of places he'd play to 1... twice (maybe 2 last year, but rumor is he strongly pushed for BKN over PHI), intentionally flouted COVID regulations last year to go to strip clubs so he wouldn't be allowed to practice... Harden is way worse than some "Tampering" which every team does.
East Playoffs are going to be flat out awesome. Considering they have six great teams at the top (Miami, Chicago, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Philly, Brooklyn), it guarantees at least two great first round series and some really good 2nd round matchups. The new play in format was the greatest thing ever for the trade deadline.
Last 2 years have been great. Not just smoke.
Was curious what was going to happen here. Why didn't they?Great day for the OKC players... OKC didn't eat any deals, so they all get to split like $20M
You have to include the current iteration of the Celtics there if you're doing Cleveland and Chicago (I'd argue even Miami).East Playoffs are going to be flat out awesome. It's also highly unusual for contenders in the same conference to swap star players in the middle of the season. Has that ever happened before? You have to include the current iteration of the Celtics there if you're doing Cleveland and Chicago (I'd argue even Miami).
It's a weird situation where the 3 most dangerous teams (Mil, Phi, Brooklyn) are sitting further down the standings.
I think I'd tend that way, too....but all 3 teams will have a legit shot if healthy (and if Kyrie can play, etc) More than anything I hope the seeding lines up such that Philly-Brooklyn match up before one of them faces Milw.Call me crazy but I still like Milwaukee in the East.
As bunched up as the East is, we could easily see two of the MIL/BKN/PHI axis of doom facing each other in the first round.I think I'd tend that way, too....but all 3 teams will have a legit shot if healthy (and if Kyrie can play, etc) More than anything I hope the seeding lines up such that Philly-Brooklyn match up before one of them faces Milw.
Knicks sent Walt Bellamy (and Butch Komives) to Detroit for Dave DeBusschere in December 1968. Knicks were 18-17 at the time of the trade. Pistons had lost 9 in a row to fall to 10-18. So maybe not "contenders"? )It's also highly unusual for contenders in the same conference to swap star players in the middle of the season. Has that ever happened before?
Thunder players deserve it. They might not be the most talented bunch but they play hard. Heck, Dort's salary for the year has been doubled!Great day for the OKC players... OKC didn't eat any deals, so they all get to split like $20M
If you're worried about SGA wanting out of OKC (and I haven't read any reporting that we're at that point yet), giving him and all of his friends on the team seven-figure checks is pretty good way to convince him to stick out another year of the rebuild.Thunder players deserve it. They might not be the most talented bunch but they play hard. Heck, Dort's salary for the year has been doubled!
I've been duped by 538 being high on the Celtics before.... but hard to not have them at least somewhere in the top 6 teams in the East currently. You have to include the current iteration of the Celtics there if you're doing Cleveland and Chicago (I'd argue even Miami).

Yeah those odds are clearly ridiculous, but this team is monstrous defensively. They have so much speed and length.I've been duped by 538 being high on the Celtics before.... but hard to not have them at least somewhere in the top 6 teams in the East currently.
538 currently has them ranked #1 in the NBA based on RAPTOR player rankings.

The Heat are this year's version of the '18 Celtics and Raptors. The hardworking somewhat talented team that rolls up regular season wins but isn't a serious contender. Philly entered that arena with the Harden deal, but pretty much this boils down to the Bucks, Nets, and Sixers. As well, Miami is a contender, too, so shouldn't be dismissed. Regular season has been weird af. But the playoffs should be really fun.
