That was disgusting.

Can't score and can't get a decent performance from the backup goalie.

And against a really shitty team. It's not like Buffalo played well, they didn't.

thats fine, but you got to get sonething better than Johnson. I'm sure there was someone available who at least had some experience and played an adequate game in goal at the NHL level
Who?

And before tonight Chad was 6-1 with a .922 sv%. He hasn't been bad.

It doesn't matter if he had signed with the Bruins for the league minimum. He's been injured for all but two games this season.

The Bruins would be exactly where they are now.
You cant assume he'd have gotten hurt if he was still here. How did he get hurt?Games are different, schedules...everything.

I'm with TSC here, not sure where else you are going to find a backup now that has put up serviceable numbers like that.  The goal tonight was dogshit but the guy has been fine overall.

You guys do realize they're 6-2 with this guy in net right? I know he's not too good but he's only going to start 13-14 more games the rest of the year. The bigger issue only being able to bury 2 against a last place team. They're better off picking up another forward if they make a move.

Have you followed the Bruins at all this year? If Khudobin were here he might be dead by now.

his numbers have looked good, but to be fair he's played against all shitty teams so far this year that the Bruins have been able to just outclass with their other personnel. Johnson hasn't been any big reason they have won any of those games. Below are the teams he's played

Buffalo twice
Columbus twice
NYI
Carolina
Edmonton
Toronto

Only good team in their at all is Toronto.

Take a look at that free agent list.  As much as I think Johnson sucks, there was nobody out there better at near the cost.  LaBarbera has similar numbers but at twice the price.

The only comps money wise are Al Montoya and Curtis McElhinny. Both have comparable numbers to Johnson, albeit on crappy teams.

Do other backup goalies have similar or different strength of schedules?

Every backup goalie gets games against shitty teams.  Johnson is doing what he is supposed to be doing, keeping the game in reach against shit teams.  Tonight he sucked but not sure what else you really want from a backup.

My thoughts are car bombs with cshea. I vote that.

I'm upset we lost to Buffalo, but on the macro level, I'm with TSC. Johnson has been more than a serviceable and Tuukka has been great (is that underrating his efforts?) as the starter getting a $7 million man's number of starts. This team is going to be very highly seeded heading into the playoffs. Johnson won't see daylight then. I'm good.

Well, he is a backup goalie. You usually play your backup against shitty teams.

He's held them in every game. He's not good, but in 7/8 games he's given them a chance to win, which is all you can really ask. Tonight was awful, no doubt.

Edit: Well beaten on the backup point. Car bombs it is.

I'll have to look, I don't recall Khudobin playing only against shitty teams last year, although the condensed schedule may have been the reason they played it that way.
6 of 14 games against playoff teams: PIT, WSH, OTT x 2, TOR x 2.  Lost 2 of the 6, gave up 12 goals.

edit: he had a 4 GA game against BUF last year, too.

Carolina
Buffalo 4x
Tampa
Toronto (plus ~30 min of a game where he relieved Rask)
Pittsburgh
Washington
Ottawa 2x
New Jersey
Philly

5 starts against playoff teams. From a quick perusal of the game logs, only the Pittsburgh game was a product of the schedule as the final game of a 3 games in 4 nights stretch.

I think people forget that having someone of Tuukka's caliber as a backup is the exception, not the rule. It's hard enough to get ONE top level goalie, having two was just an embarrassment of riches. Let's not forget the likes of Manny Fernandez, Marty Turco, and Alex Auld as the backups. As has been noted, Johnson has played well enough for a backup in all the games until this one. Losing with your backup is gonna happen, even if it is to a crappy team.

I definitely worry more about their offensive production with this lineup, it's going to fall on the shoulders of the top 2 lines, especially the Krejci line, to really pick it up until they can start getting healthy again.
