Why was Morris warming up if they weren't going to use him?
Who knows. Could have been warming on his own. JH probably trying to save Shane a year.

This game is lost. May as well have Jabrill run the wildcat.

Pretty good reminder that if they can find a QB they will get good, eventually. Like real good. But the position is really bad right now

My breathing hasn't even returned to normal, but holy shit, a lot of luck to come out of that one. How huge did. The 2-point conversion end up being??

The d will come back. Glad we could get this read-option learning experience in a winning effort before OSU. Might be able to win next week without him, but this season is pretty much dead if Rudock is seriously hurt. OL play seemed troublesome.

Oh, and Jabrill is still ridiculous.

Winning with class, the Michigan way.
Oh, don't you ever get tired of waging your neverending war against perceived microagressions? And aren't there some politically incorrect Halloween costumes you should be protesting this morning?

Newsflash: Jerry Kill's not dead.

Just wow. What a game. Minny's coaching staff egregiously screwed up the last 20 seconds of that game. The defense finally didn't have a great game, but the rest of the team picked them up. Jabrill is a really special player. Is it clear whether Shane has been passed on the depth chart or if Harbaugh is trying to get another him another year in the program?

I'm sure he wants to save Shane a year of eligibility, whether it's here or elsewhere, but that was an important game; I don't see him putting in Speight unless he believed he gave the team the best chance to win.

Jabrill was named Big Ten "freshman" of the week for the second time this season.

The OSU game will have a noon kickoff.

Was great to steal a win, which does slightly offset the pain from the Sparty loss.

My concern going forward remains at QB, whether Rudock is healthy or not. Minnesota really challenged Rudock to throw, and he simply can't make plays downfield. That needs to change or there will be an effective blueprint to jam up our offense.

In any case, watching Harbaugh coach this team is a blast, especially the Peppers usage. Future is bright.

Good weekend.

4* Colorado DE Carlo Kemp committed today. The team took care of business against Rutgers, and MSU got the loss that was needed to give Michigan a real chance at the conference title.

Pretty funny quote from Harbaugh after the Rutgers game:

I'm pretty offended by that. ... We train our quarterbacks to throw to people that aren't covered." -- Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh took exception to Michigan being penalized for an "intent to deceive" personal foul on a catch by Jake Butt, who was completely unguarded after running to the Wolverines' sideline as though he were leaving the field. The rarely called penalty prohibits teams from trying to trick an opponent by faking a substitution.

IU's offense is real good.

If they had any defense, any defense, they'd be a top 25 team-easy.
True but I fear the Glasgow loss was a big one.

I'm headed to State College for Saturday's game - hope we can get a win at a tough venue.

4. Regular season record - O/U 7.5?

My guesses:

4. Over, 8-4
4. Regular season record - Over 9-4 (including a bowl win I actually have them starting 5-1 and with second half losses to MSU, Minnesota and Penn State)
4. 8 wins
4. Regular season record - Over
We are at the baseline of what our expectations were at the start of the season. One more win and we're hitting the top line. I know expectations change once you see what the team is capable of, so what are you expectations? What does it take for this season to be a success? Is it already a success? What would make it a disappointment?

Expectations? I've been trained against having too many of those over the last decade or so.

But I'll be very disappointed if we lose the next three, and pessimistic for a few months. Everything beyond that will be pretty much gravy on a very successful first season. If one of those at-least-two-more wins is against OSU, then it will have been a smashing success. (Winning the next two and then losing the following two would suck, but I'd get over it quickly by remembering derailing OSU.)

I was supposed to be going, but [humblebrag] my daughter's high school soccer team won last night and is in the state finals on Saturday, so I have to pass on the tickets. [/humblebrag]

Hopefully it's just a routine victory in both games ....

I think this team is perfectly capable of winning the next 3, but the odds are against it. In any 50-50 matchup or better (i.e. PSU and Iowa), I'll take UM, but I don't think they have the horses to hang with OSU now that Glasgow is gone. If Mone can come back and be effective (ideally for this Saturday although I have no idea if that's even a remote possibility) he will tip the scales closer to 50-50, but I see 9-3 on the regular season, with a likely win over [likely] LSU/UF (I really like UM's chances when the coaching staff gets significant prep time and more practice with these players).

Penn St will another hell-ride on the road. Their DL probably dominates our OL. PSU's OL will not destroy our edge like IU's OL destroyed us (can't believe I just said that). This is a 17-13 win with two or three of sparkly plays making the difference.

Ohio State worries me now. Like, blow-out worries me. With Glasgow, we'd be able to scape out a win. Without him, they will zone-read us up and down the field.

It'd be a big help if turnover luck started to go our way. The defense has recovered one (1) fumble. As good as our secondary has played, INT's have been almost non-existent.

I posted this also in the Penn State thread...

Here's the Campus Onsider take on the game:

Both teams are still alive in the Big Ten championship chase. Michigan (8-2) has a little more control than Penn State (7-3) – okay, a LOT more control – but the loser of this is definitely out. At the very least, this will go a long way to figuring out the Big Ten bowl pecking order and will set the stage for a big final week of the season. Check out the Michigan vs. Penn State prediction and game preview.

Why You Need To Care
Michigan might have been shaky against Minnesota and Indiana on the road – needing goal line stands in each to get out with tight wins. But there’s still a shot to do just about everything anyone could’ve hoped for, needing to win this week to set up the season-ender against Ohio State. First, the Wolverines need to take care of business against the Nittany Lions. Second, they need Ohio State to beat Michigan State. If that happens, then the hype will be off the charts for the showdown with the Buckeyes. Can Michigan get into the CFP? If it dominates over the next two weeks, and if it’s able to get a shot at a 12-0 Iowa and wins in a blowout, then … maybe.

Penn State is still in this thing, too. It’s going to need to win out against Michigan and Michigan State, and it’ll need Ohio State to beat Michigan State, and then it’ll need Michigan to beat Ohio State – it’s all complicated, but it’s possible. But just getting a really, really strong win would be nice considering the best victory so far came against San Diego State. This is a good team with a solid defense, but now the offense will have to come through. Now the inconsistent attack that rolled through Maryland and Illinois needs to rise up after two weeks off and come up with something special.

Why Michigan Will Win
Penn State doesn’t have a Jordan Howard. Indiana ran for 307 yards last week with Howard and running the same play over and over again. The Michigan run D hasn’t been quite as strong as it was early in the year when it didn’t allow 100 yards rushing six straight games, but outside of last week it’s still been excellent. The Wolverine defense should be able to swarm all over the mediocre Penn State rushing game that hasn’t hit the 200-yard mark in any of the last seven games – but it came up with 195 yards against Penn State. No. 2 in the nation in pass efficiency defense, Michigan will take its chances against the Nittany Lion passing game.

Why Penn State Will Win
As good as Michigan’s defense has been, it’s not a monster when it comes to takeaways with just four in the last five games. While Penn State has had some fumbling issues lately, the passing game isn’t giving it up – and the defense is picking up the slack. The air attack has picked thins up with Chris Godwin hitting the 100-yard mark in three of the last four games, and with DaeSean Hamilton stepping up his game. This team does have weapons, and they’re just starting to figure it all out late in the season. At home, the offense should hum, especially if …

Player Who Matters
… this is Christian Hackenberg’s last home game. It’s not like he’s captured the heart of Nittany Lion nation – he just hasn’t been good enough – but his game is coming around at just the right time. The NFL prospect has thrown just three picks on the year and just one in the last seven games with 12 touchdown passes. He’s still not accurate enough, and he’s still too inconsistent, but he’s also had a strong three-game stretch throwing for 786 yards against Maryland, Illinois and Northwestern. He was just okay in last year’s loss to Michigan, but he threw for 305 yards and three touchdowns and two picks as a freshman in the 43-40 win. He has to be fantastic in the home finale.

What’s Going To Happen?
a well-rested Penn State will come out hot, but Michigan will slowly grind away with the rushing attack. The defense will rise up after last week’s problems against the Hoosiers, and Hackenberg just won’t be good enough. If he’s the best player on the field, Penn State wins. He won’t be.

Michigan vs. Penn State Prediction
Final Score: Michigan 27, Penn State 20, Line: Michigan -4, o/u: 42.5

Also, it's a noon start for a White Out game. Most have been night time starts. There have been 11 WO games total, with only 7 being full-stadium (vs student section-only). The Lions are 5-6 in those games, with notable wins against Notre Dame in 2007 and Michigan in 2010 and '13.

This will be the 2nd time that Penn State has hosted Michigan in a full stadium WO game and the fourth time overall. The last time the teams met in a WO game, Penn State claimed a dramatic 43-40 victory in four overtimes in 2013.

Here's a toast to a well played game.
