With Charles Woodson announcing his retirement, just wondering where he ranks on list of Michigan's all-time greats, college and pro? As an outsider, he seems almost without a peer when it comes to his greatness at both levels.

There's this other fellow who plays quarterback. He wasn't always appreciated by the coaching staff, but when he was given the chance, he had a lot of success at Michigan and won a few games in the pros.

He might give Woodson a run for his money, but other than that I think Charles is the man.

Better than Gerald Ford? C'mon man!

In all seriousness though, it's tough to argue against him. His contributions to the 1997 [split] championship alone is nothing short of extraordinary - especially in the MSU, OSU, and Rose Bowl games. And winning the Heisman as a defensive player.

Then on to the pros: AP Defensive ROY; AP Defensive POY; 8 Pro Bowls; SB Champion, etc., etc., etc.

Other modern guys in the conversation are Hutch, Dierdorf (in both NCAA and NFL HOF, 3-time all pro), Ty Law (!), and Tom Mack (11 Pro Bowls). There's so many guys who had really solid careers too, but I think that pretty much covers the cream of the crop. I mean, Jake Long has been to 4 pro bowls and was all pro one year and he had an outstanding college career, but he's not passing any of the other guys above. Also, if you want to go way back, there's Tom Harmon, Benny Friedman, and Oosterbaan, et al., but hard to compare to that era.

Not on the level of Brady or Woodson. But Jumbo Elliott is worth a mention. 2-time 1st team All-American followed by a 14-year NFL career. Starter for a SB champion. He never played for a Rose Bowl winner, but that was pretty rare under Bo anyway.

Bubba Paris is another one. Michigan All-American, Rose Bowl winner, 3-time Super Bowl Champion. Also worthy of mention.

Well, while I was subjecting myself to the awfulness that was the Winter Classic, these guys crushed a pretty good SEC team, huh?

Hard not to be excited to see what Harbaugh can do with this team next year.

Great end to a great season, even if it was so close to being a lot better. Can't argue with 10 wins and a rout of Florida on New Year's Day.

Happily enjoying a plate of crow...Jake Rudock really became an outstanding QB. Harbaugh really knows how to develop QBs

Rashan Gary dominated at the UA All-America game. Trying not to get my hopes too high that we land him, but signing him could be the tipping point between top 10-15 teams and legitimately competing for a spot in the playoffs.

While we wait for Gary to make a decision, Dylan Crawford, a CA WR just outside the 247 composite's top 100, committed to Michigan at the Army AA game. He brings much needed speed and athleticism to a position of need. Crawford should factor into the slot right away and could eventually be a factor on the outside as Michigan graduates Chesson and Darboh after next year. Michigan is up to #2 in the 247 class rankings. There are 4 spots left without attrition.

Karma bitches. Great win for MSU. Having your hearts ripped out like that is perfect karma for a fanbase that has been sending death threats to your punter since the game ended. Walverine Nation is pathetic.
Remember that time Michigan lost to Indiana? Me neither. Karma, bitch.

When you haven't won a Big Ten title since Bush's first term or beaten an Ohio State head coach since 2003, lost seven of eight to your "little brother" and ended the ND series being shut out, I guess bumping eight-month old threads are the real victories in life. Hail!

Sick burn, bro. You forgot to mention Appalachian State, though.
That didn't even make the cut. Why is a fan of a program that's been irrelevant for almost a decade making fun of one that's owned them for the last eight years, won two of the last three conference titles and is the only Big Ten team to beat Urban Meyer, which they've done twice?

Don't forget to wear your "We Beat Urban Meyer Twice" t-shirt to the Quick Lane Bowl this year!
Would I even be able to fit it next to 2-13, 42-13, 1-7 and 31-0? I'm not even a Michigan State fan but hey, it's two more times than scUM has while he's been at Ohio State. I'm sure you'll always cherish that Capital One Bowl win though!

Yammer was way too kind in his description of Michigan fans. What an utterly despicable group.
