Not a garbage call, I don't think. You don't get to step on ankles inside the box after getting beaten. Not every penalty needs to look like mass murder.

California. Duh.
Looked a little iffy at first because it appeared she could run through it and then decided to go down after a step. But replay shows it was because of the stomp on the ankle.

And way to jinx them with the talk about no goals conceded, Fox. That was awful.

no, THAT was a horrid clearance.

edit: also it was a great f*cking shot. Upper 90 with bend. Naeher might have stopped a merely good shot, and Ertz had anything to the attacker's left, it took a great shot to net it there.

That looked like a U11 team where the keeper doesn't have the leg to hoof it upfield.

i'm looking forward to seeing an angry US team for 80 minutes. You'd bet on Rapinoe to bury that 80%+ of the time, too. Looked like the keeper cheated far post (Rapinoe's preferred shot) at the last second, and she missed when she changed to near post.

I'm not sure how you sit Horan. I get she has a yellow, but you can't play her vs. France unless you beat Spain, and Horan is a pretty big cog in the US machine.

That fuck up by Sauerbrunn and Naeher reminds me of the ball hit between Jackie and Betts earlier this spring that they both watched fall between them. You just can't believe shit that bad can occur in midst of the people who are the best at what they do.

watch the replay next time, keeper jumps to keeper's left (pinoe's right) just before the strike. she knew.
Well, since the keeper was still able to save the near-post shot despite it being 2 feet wide, there wasn't room there. If she goes far post maybe it gets saved, but also could have given up a rebound.

Spain has the eye of the tiger too right now.

They had a few nervy moments in the group stages as well, they just didn't play anyone that could take advantage of it.

I know that everyone loves to play it out from the back these days, but there's nothing wrong with booting it to midfield a few times to keep the other team honest, as well. Seemed pretty clear that Spain saw the footage from the earlier games and decided that could be a weakness.

Call me crazy, but I'd bring in Lloyd. Put her in Johnston-Ertz's spot and move Julie to Dahlkemper's spot.

Yep, you're right about that. They haven't looked good all tournament playing it out from the back. I'm still seething.

Agree. Spain doesn't have the talent to go the whole field against US

Dunn was a forward until, what, a year or two ago? I'm not sure her defensive instincts are world-class yet. Can neither of our national teams produce a left back?
