Or did an unathletic front office guy say something annoying?!
Not sure why this made me laugh as much as it did, but it got me thinking. With Breslow and Bailey being relatively close to their playing days still - which of the MLB teams would field the best 9?
Rules: Must have played at least one game in MLB and more than 10 of their games in the position on the roster - no minors players turned execs, no Aaron Boone at C because you need a Yankee there.
Some thoughts:
-The GM/POBO level has 5 recent players in Breslow, Getz,Gomes,Fuld, and Chris Young -plus some well out of their playing days like Jerry Dipoto
- There is a trend towards players more recently out of their careers as managers: Counsell, Roberts, Schumaker, Marmol, Cora, Vogt, Baldelli, Boone, Kotsay, Cash, Servais and if we stretch a little bit back you can count AJ Hinch.

EDIT - I'm talking about playing right now. Not these guys in their primes. These guys as they are capable post career (I put this in after seeing Willie Mays listed for SF)

Possible Sox Lineup starting point.
C - Varitek - Game Day Coordinator
1B David Ortiz - Special Assistant
2B Ramon Vazquez - Bench Coach
3B Andy Fox - 1B Coach
SS Alex Cora - Manager
LF Kyle Hudson - 3B Coach
CF
RF
P - Pedro (Special Assistant) Bailey (Pitching Coach), Breslow (CBO)

I wasn't sure if I should count Papi and Pedro since they are 'Special Assistants' but that finishes the infield with Ortiz at 1st and Pedro starting.

When I have more time (not at work) I'll go through and do a few more teams.

I think Willie may have lost a step or two in the OF, though if you're counting special assistants I'm putting in Pedro and Papi.

I thought we’re using their hypothetical best not 2024
You have to use special assistants to compete any of these rosters
Yes you count Pedro and Papi

Can put Ellis Burks (Pro Scout) in CF to let Willie coach instead.

Might I suggest that an interesting twist would be to "put together the best roster (All-Star) of front office execs and uniformed coaches across MLB." Maybe that's a breakout thread? When we add "special assistant," that's just about anyone who retired and can get their team some publicity.

That's why I was hesitant to put them in there in the first place. Pujols for the Cards would qualify for example.

As for the best roster of FO and Uniformed:
C - Jason Varitek (sentimental sure, but who else goes here, Cash?) Maybe Ausmus as the backup?
1B Matt Williams (He's got 13 games at1B in his career)
2B Alex Cora
3B Chipper Jones
SS Walt Weiss
LF
CF Ellis Burks
RF Pat Burrell
P Breslow, Bailey

That's just from the above so far.

I moved Burrell to RF because of Bonds but I think he was more of a LF but not really sure tbh.
