FWIW, a friend just emailed me that Howard Eskin thinks that Sirianni is returning with new coordinators. Eskin is a longtime Philly sports media guy (newspapers, TV, radio) with good contacts within the organization. Although Sirianni staying makes little sense given how thorough the Eagles collapse was, perhaps Lurie and his people realized that firing your head coach every couple of years after a Super Bowl appearance might make it harder to attract good candidates going forward.

I wish him the greatest coaching joy he could experience- turning a mediocre special teams football player into the best lacrosse player of all time.

Eskin is a Philly legend but I wouldn't put a lot of stock into what he's saying right now. Today is exit interview day for the players and Sirianni is supposed to sit down with Lurie & Roseman later this afternoon. I think it's safe to say that nobody knows nothing and Sirianni's future will largely depend on how that conversation goes. When Lurie fired Pederson it was six days after the season had ended, and that after a 4-11-1 season where you sort of knew that something might happen. This was much more abrupt and could take a little time to sort out.

I also read that Lurie had gone in to that conversation with Pederson expecting to retain him but didn’t like the plan he proposed so decided to fire him instead. So yeah, this could go a lot of different ways.

Based on all the documentaries - I believe BB is at the stage of his career where he wants to coach players that he "likes". What I interpret this to mean, is he doesn't want to deal with headaches and massive egos.

I believe Dallas and Philadelphia have a rotten core, especially with the added media pressure. LAC would be a perfect fit for him - warm city, no pressure to perform, relatively easy schedule (minus the Chiefs two times a year), talented young players, and he gets to stay in the AFC.

Coaching Asante Samuel Jr would be an underrated part of any BB to LAC story given his history with Asante Sr

I want him to retire from coaching and be given the keys to NFL Films. Pick up where Steve Sabol (all too soon) left off and let him become the league historian for as long as he wants.

It's interesting that I don't have a strong opinion. I would have thought I would. The truth is that I don't really care much, I don't think.

I also seem to not care whether he breaks the record. If he cant' do it as our guy, it no longer matters to me. At least, that's kind of how I'm feeling at the moment. Dallas, Atlanta, whatever. I'm surprised that this is how I seem to be viewing it.

Sometimes when I watch games, I don't know what I'm going to root for until the game is underway and sometimes I'm surprised. Like I had very mixed feelings about Tom Brady. Weird. I think that I won't be able ever to root for the Cowboys, for example, but, if I'm being as honest as I can be, I'm not sure how I'll feel once he's on the sideline of any team. I would have thought I'd have an opinion. I don't. People in this thread make very good points, though.

When Brady and Gronk left, I had strong feelings about where they went because I enjoyed watching them play and wanted to continue to do so. For decades, Tom Brady was clearly the best player on the field. I enjoyed watching him execute for the same reason I enjoyed Pedro: watching exceptional athletes at the peak of their powers is one of professional sports' great joys. Same for Gronk: even toward the end, it was fun to watch someone with his speed, size and athleticism truck people. I believe that Bill Belichick was as good (or better) a coach as Brady was a QB and Gronk a TE. But I, a layperson watching on TV, can't easily appreciate what BB does. For that reason: I don't care where he goes, and I wish him the best of success. I'm glad he was our guy for so long. I really, really enjoyed his press conferences. I found that shtick endlessly amusing. I remember unconventional decisions that paid off, like the intentional safety in Denver. I know that he prepared teams and game plans to win six (pretty different!) SBs. I perceive that his players generally loved him and that his reputation as the GOAT head coach is well deserved. That's no small feat, but I don't know how to appreciate it so good luck and farewell.

Same as Brady, I want him to go wherever he has the best chance to win.

I feel the same way. I realize this is a hugely unpopular opinion. I loved the last 24 years, but I'm a Patriots fan. Not a Cowboys/Falcons/whoever else fan. Just as I felt about Brady, I won't root against him (at least unless his future team is playing the NEP), but that's sort of where it ends. Best of luck in future endeavors and all.

I’d hate to see Dallas be successful. I abhor Jurrah and the fans are the Yankees fans of the NFL, without the team success. Also the whole “America’s Team” shit drives me nuts.

I think Philly presents the best chance for success and while the fans are assholes, they’re kind like second cousins of Boston fans, so it’s hard to hate them. I’d also like BB to win one without Tom.
i agree on the america team part 50% of northeast arkansas is cowboys fans they might been america team in the 70's 80's but what about the pats they have america cloars

I'll be disappointed if he winds up in Dallas or Philly or any place where he'll have a GM over him, because if he was amenable to that sort of situation, he just could have stayed with the Patriots.

And as far as stepping into a ready-made to win situation, the Patriots team he took over from Pete Carroll had gone 8-8 after starting 6-2, a team that could have been seen as a talented team that underachieved, and he effected a pretty significant teardown when he took over the team. The Eagles have a lot on nice pieces on offense, but the back seven of their defense is in shambles and will need a lot of work, and if Kelce is retiring, their offensive line goes from a strength to a question mark. Will Bill and Howie see eye to eye on how to proceed to remake these units?

Same with Dallas--they have stars on both sides of the ball, but do those stars fit what Bill wants to do? Parsons sure, but Gilmore is aging, and Diggs, when he comes back, has been a guy who makes big flashy plays but also gets burned to a cinder at times. I have no interest in delving into the intricacies of the NFL salary cap, but it's rarely a situation in which teams, especially teams laden with stars, can afford to run it back with the same players. Again, are Bill and the Joneses going to be on the same page when it comes to which of those players stay and which of them goes?

You all might be right, and he winds up taking the easiest path to getting the record, but I just don't see him as a hired gun looking to try to make the best of other people's solutions to the puzzle of assembling a championship team. This is a guy who dumped Bernie Kosar in favor of reclamation project Vinnie Testaverde, and who later dumped All-Pro Drew Bledsoe for, as great as he later became, at the time was a work in progress named Tom Brady. You can say, "But he would have a great QB in Jalen Hurts". and he might see a guy who can't handle a blitz. Or "he'll have a great QB in Dak", and he might see a guy who has repeatedly come up small in big moments in big games.

Honestly, if he signs on to either of those situations, to me it would be a sign that the Krafts were right to part ways with him now, because he's far from the man he used to be.
for Dallas jerry will say all the right things but by year 3 jerry will want back in power
no shot with philly philly owner is just as medding as jones he just does it throught back channels plus will not get rid of howie their gm

is 2 q
1 will blank get rid of rich mckay if so bill will then have full power and most likely be in ATL 5-6 years which will allow bill the 50-60 wins chuison that he will need so that andy does not break the recored
2 dallas will offer 10-12 wins a year but like i said 3 years max which will crete a shot for andy reid to get the all-time rec

does he want the wins record most ATL or a sb shot dallas

I feel the same way about Bill potentially going to Atlanta as I did Brady going to Tampa. It feels weird for storied careers to end with such meh, un-storied (except for their terribleness) teams. Looking across the NFL, I think the only teams I'd feel that way about are Arizona, Carolina, Jacksonville, Tampa and Atlanta. Even the Rams and Chargers have some interesting history.

Tampa has won two super bowls. That is storied enough, especially compared to a lot of teams in the NFL. (Detroit, Minnesota, Cleveland, Jax, Jets, Bills, Chargers, etc)

Atlanta has never won, obviously, but they sure were close that one time.

In this context, I would think "interview" is probably not the right word.

I mean, really, who the fuck is going to "interview" Bill Belichick? I think this is more like a meeting to see if they can come up with a plan that would make it work for both sides. Which is to say that Bill is probably interviewing them as much as they are interviewing him.

Also, I have no real point other than to be a little pedantic.

That's fair, but I still see Tampa the same way I see the Marlins -- they've won, but those were short blips of relevance amidst a lengthy history of being decidedly meh.

Why I see Tampa this way and not Detroit or Minny is a fair question.

Per The Athletic:

"Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said “I am very confident in the direction” of the team in a Thursday news conference, one day after team owner Jerry Jones released a statement saying McCarthy would return as head coach for the 2024 season."

I don't disagree that Tampa has mostly been in the desert. But 2 Super Bowls puts them ahead of the 17 teams that have won 1 or 0. And that is cache enough, in my opinion.

Plus the SB wins were legit, crushing very, very good teams.
