That's not what he was doing. He did a spin move inside the five and the defense closed on the ball

Yep, I agree with you, but would you be shocked if the refs didn't call it momentum on the field, and the booth didn't overturn it because it wasn't clear?

And you're also assuming the player knows for sure his momentum took him into the end zone. If he gets up and gets tackled in the end zone, you're in the same spot. If he brings it out, you eliminate any possibility of a bad call costing you the game.

Any turnover inside the 5 is gonna be assumed to be momentum unless it’s extremely obvious otherwise (forward motion and then returns to the end zone). And any turnover inside the 1 won’t even be treated as momentum: they’ll make it a touchback and dare replay to over turn it. Easier for everyone

McCarthy is going to screw this up. The combination of trying to win and trying to keep Brady off the field is going to cause him to overthink something where thinking at all is not his strong suit. A 72 yd fG at the buzzer will fall *just* short

One was a tipped screen that hit Fournette in his hands and landed in a defender's lap. The 2nd was on a Hail Mary.

Meanwhile, Godwin dropped a bomb that he probably should have caught and strolled into the end zone, and then he just fumbled on a completion inside the 5 yard line.

Up until the fumble Godwin had probably been the 2nd best player for TB. Could he have done better on the big gain earlier... sure he didn't get around on it and missed it, but that kind of thing happens a lot in games. He had a bunch of key catches including the first TD, he played well. Just a dumb decision and some poor luck on 1 play.
