Week 1 NFL Game Thread

Awful decision by the NFL to have this as a primetime game. Maybe they don't care as much during week one since everyone will watch anyways.
Yeah I'm not 100% sure how the TV rights work anymore. Are they limited in how many times they can broadcast a single team per season?

Obviously Browns @ Chiefs was projected to be (and ended up being) a far better game, but perhaps as you say NBC picked a game with two large TV markets for Week 1 and figured it was their best time to get ratings in Chicago when they're 0-0 instead of two months from now when the Bears are likely to be, say, 2-5.

SNF will still feature the Chiefs three other weeks (Chiefs @ Ravens Week 2, Bills @ Chiefs Week 5, Chiefs @ Raiders Week 10) and the Browns @ Ravens in Week 12.

Why burn one of your chances at KC in the first week of the season? Whatever game they showed tonight was going to get ratings.

California. Duh.
After years of watching Jared Goff, it's amazing how many more options a team has when the QB can throw the ball accurately more than 5 yards down the field.

What were the big surprises and/or eye-openers from this weekend for everyone?

For me:
  • Steelers over Bills (only slightly as I am in the "Bills are overrated camp")
  • Cardinals crushing Titans
  • Saints crushing Packers
  • Lions scoring 33 against the 49ers
  • Broncos stomping Giants
  • Cowboys hanging with Bucs to the bitter end/Dak looking like he picked up right where he left off 2020 pre-injury

I would add the level of comfort and success Stafford seemed to have already in the LAR system. They looked dangerous.

Looks like the roof that lets the sun in is going to be standard for dome stadiums going forward.

I generally like Louis Riddick, but yeah I'll give Peyton and Eli a shot.

edit: oh wait, is it a quad box where you have to look at Peyton and Eli all night?

double edit: okay, it's just the Mannings on the side. I can deal with this.

This might get old after a while but it’s one of the best football broadcast I’ve ever seen so far
