This effectively ends his season, yes?  Now with Craig also on the DL, RF is open for Cespedes, and we get something like a Nava/Betts platoon in LF?  I know we brought Brown up, but isn't he a LHH?  Wouldn't make sense to have him split time with Nava...

Well, hopefully he comes back 100% next year. Good luck Shane.

Brown is just a bench guy, I'm hoping we'll see a lot of Mookie from here on out.

Best possible outcome. Glad they aren't trying to push his rehab to come back this year.

so that playing time Carp was carping for just opened up...

This happened to Jay "Why did he sign here" Payton too.

But seriously, the Sox now have Bradley, Cespedes, Nava, and Betts for the OF plus Holt who is roaming around.  Why exactly is Corey Brown up?

I guess this is better than constantly being "almost ready",  only to re-injure himself.  But backs can be tricky.  Hopefully he recovers well and has one more healthy year here. He's a fun guy to watch when he's out there at 100%.

Late-inning defense. Pinch-running for Ortiz/Napoli after they pinch-hit for a pitcher (no DH in St. Louis). Stuff like that.

No one works out harder in the off season than Shane. He'll be back.  It's a lost season already so why not get it over with.

Get well soon; I'll see you on the golf course in November Shane, hope you can swing the clubs. You can't be worse!

I don't know where he fits on this team next year with Craig, JBJ, Cespedes and Betts - though Betts likely rides the shuttle all things being equal I assume- coming off surgery will kill his value too you'd think. Meaning he probably plays for the Sox if healthy.
But anyway I hope he recovers and plays well because he's just such a likable dude.

Farrell on MLB Radio says that Victorino's surgery is on multiple disks in his back.

Multiple?  Yeesh.

What's the typical recovery time for this type of injury?  Would have to hope that the 6 months between now and spring training would be enough but I honestly don't know.
