ugh. 1password failure

Actually, I'm sure it's more my failure.

I tried to install 1password.

Something funky happened with the passwords, and I now can't log in to my google account (hosted on my own domain), and get the following email when I attempt to reset my password:

"Using the following method to recover your account will require you to access the DNS (Domain Name Server) settings of your domain and add a CNAME record. This procedure may take up to 72 hours. Please consider contacting other admins in your domain before proceeding."

I am asked if I want to "try again" or "proceed."

I haven't "proceeded" yet, because I have no idea what I'm getting into and I'm afraid I'm going to make things worse.  This is so frustrating.  I don't have tech support and this is my business at stake.

Ironically, I'm still logged into my account on my iphone, so I can send and receive emails from the account that I'm locked out of, but I need to figure out how to get control of my account back.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?  If it matters, my domain is hosted on Wix (yeah, yeah, I know...).

Seriously.  This is why I hadn't yet installed password software.  Like my worst nightmare to now be frozen out.

If you remember your password have you tried doing a password reset on your phone? Because usually when the password gets changed it logs you out of any current sessions (which would mean you couldn't send any emails on your phone)

I can send and receive emails to the frozen account on my phone, for now.  That's the only thing that is saving me from complete ritual sepuuku.  I want to fix it through my computer so I don't lose my phone email access.

What does this mean?

Yeah, that just takes me back to the same account recovery process that is generating that CNAME message.

classic--you need to be logged into your account and satisfy prompts in order to get through the phone tree.  otherwise it kicks you out.

I guess I can just try to proceed with the reset.  I just have no idea what a CNAME record is, and if I'm supposed to access my DNS settings to add a CNAME record, I'll be equally lost.

Let's try one more thing. Try resetting the password using the instructions in the following link

It should be fairly simple generally but I'm going to guess Wix doesn't give you access to these things.

Follow the directions in that link. Hopefully that works.

So yeah, like everything else, this depends on being able to recovery your admin password.  The problem is my credentials are the admin credentials, and I can't recover that password.

Have you tried posting a request in that forum I linked to? They usually have support agents who browse that site and might be able to help/get you connected with someone on the phone

It is finished.  Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit.

Now we wait.

EDIT:  Hopefully my account will have risen before three days (72 hours)

I think they say that just like the cable company says "it may take x number of hours to restore your service" if you don't pay your bill, but it comes back on in minutes.

My long national nightmare is over.  Google sent me login credentials overnight.  Took basically 24 hours.  Y'all can rest easy now.

I was thinking of doing 1password, but you've lived my nightmare.

Glad to see it turned out OK.

I'm a glutton for punishment.   I'm still going forward with it.  I figure it's just user error, and that once I've adapted, I'll actually be in a more secure place.  Plus, I've gotten frustrated trying to keep track of the various combinations of colors and numbers that I've used for login credentials in various places.  I'm getting too old for this stuff.

Yeah, I hear you on that.  What's worse is that if you forget a password, or lock an account, most places make you change it to a completely new one.  Which is normally just a similar variation, which makes it more likely you'll enter something wrong in the future and lock an account.  Given that I'm personally prone to transposing stuff, I've gone through a shit-ton of passwords.

Let us know how it goes?

Yup, that is exactly the straw that broke the back.  I just couldn't take it anymore.  I will update you as I convert over, and let you know how it goes.  So far, I like it on the laptop (now that I've straightened out the email situation).  Haven't quite figured it out on iOS though.

If you have a fingerprint reader, 1Password is absolutely killer on iOS.  You can use it from within Safari and your fingerprint authenticates you.  It's really nice.

Yep, the best part about 1Password is how easy it is to use on your phone. A lot of apps connect directly to it now, so you can login to the app using TouchID too. It's handy.

I converted about a year ago, especially with the proliferation of work passwords I needed to track as well. I'm up to something like 150 unique logins stored now, it's way easier than remembering passwords.

Just a bump because two weeks later, I am fully converted, and I am really happy about it.  Once I got used to the process of generating a password and saving a login, the system works really nicely.
