I love me some JC. I always thought it was a bit weird that the school has (as far as I know) never really done anything to honor Calhoun. I think there’s a banner that hangs in his honor but I would have thought the godfather of UCONN basketball would have at least a statue or the court named after him.
You need a “men’s” in there between UConn and basketball.

Isn’t the road Gampel is on named Jim Calhoun way?
But regardless, both Jim and Geno deserve a statue.
And it’s amazing that two of the best College hoops coaches ever being hired at the same time on one campus isn’t its own 30 for 30. Incredible story.

Yes there's a Jim Calhoun Way. He's plenty honored by UConn. As he should be. All-time great coach.

But Geno...yeah...when he retires the school is going to maybe name the court after him or something.

Yeah that was a solid victory. Keep it up and keep rolling. 40 minutes from Houston.

Who do we think is the best matchup for UConn in the regional final? I’m thinking Gonzaga but maybe Timme will be able to handle Sanogo down low?

And I imagine the crowd will be very pro UCLA if they advance.

okay that was a lot of fun. Started the afternoon off with a UConn pregame party. And an absolutely dominating performance. Now I can have 2 good nights out here.

This is the only round where UConn has a losing record. This is a chance to even it up. All time:

Fist Round: 24-12
Second Round: 18-6
Regional Semis: 12-6
Regional Finals: 5-6
National Semis: 4-1
National Finals: 4-0

Should be a pretty close game. Timme will hurt UConn down low on offense but hopefully him and Sanogo are a wash. Where the game is going to be won or lost is UConn's ability to make life as difficult as possible on Timme. Change up defenses, change where to send the double team, rotate guys defending him. I think UConn has the length and the defensive chops to do pretty well on the perimeter against Strawther and Smith. UConn's depth should be another weapon. Gonzaga really only played 7 guys last night(the 8th guy played 5 minutes) while UConn played 8 guys real minutes before it got out of hand and really could play Diarra and Samson Johnson more if they wanted to but don't need to. UConn could really go 10 deep with solid players.

I hear that this TikTok thing is a big deal. And one it’s biggest stars is 18 year old Charli D’Amelio of Norwalk. Anyway it’s nice that she shares the money with her dad. Because he threw a real nice party after the game back at team hotel. He opened the bar and nice spread. Got to talk to some of the players families. As happy as I was they were on cloud nine. Welled up a bit when I saw Donavan and his dad hug out after Donavan showed up.

UConn is going to handle Gonzaga and it's not going to be that close. Timme obviously is fantastic, and I see him scoring about 20 points, but he's not going to go off, and UConn should be able to handle the rest of what Gonzaga has to offer. The only way this game is really tight is if UConn has a terrible shooting performance.

UConn wins by 10+.

UConn really is in a great spot right now. They’re the best team left in the tourney. They’re healthy. They’re rolling. And the top seeds have all disappeared.

25 years ago, UConn lost its fourth regional final.

There really was no reason to think that a school that size would ever get enough chances to even out their record in the Elite 8. It was crazy to imagine they might even get to a few more let alone play enough of them and win enough of them to even up a 0-4.

But Rip Hamilton decided to stay, they finally got of the Schneid, and now 25 years later they are going to their sixth.

I'm now 6-0 in UConn tournament games. I have seen better games but this was probably the best trip. Had a great section of fellow UConn fans. I wish I could go to Houston.

Dan Hurley is not a good coach. You’re not going to win conference games on talent alone. They steamrolled teams earlier in the season on talent discrepancy. Now that teams have seen video and game planned for UConn the coach just gets beat every time. Hell Ewing found a way to stifle this team. At this point I don’t see them making it out of the first weekend.

You know… you win some, you lose some. Happy to be wrong here. He still can’t win a close game. Hope the huskies keep closing out teams by 15 plus points

I’m not remotely sure Sanogo is an NBA player. Ugh.
I don't think he is. Not unless he can start picking and popping from three at 36-37%. Hes gotten off the floor well in recent games for some blocks and has rotated well defensively, but I think he's going struggle against bigger, quicker bigs on defense, especially out on the perimeter. A little surprised that he finished the year with under a block a game.

I'd return, but that's for selfish Husky purposes.

Sanogo doesn’t benefit from NIL the way US citizen players do. There are workarounds, but that involves payments being made out of the country. Perhaps that’s weighs into his decision. He’s also being advised by somebody with some knowledge about his NBA chances. Or maybe he’s OK with idea of playing in Europe.

Heck of an impressive beat down last night, regardless.

With Sanogo, he could also grad transfer to another school. With Clingan and the 7 foot freshman coming in, he may see the writing on the wall and want to go somewhere else if he wants to keep playing college basketball.

The guy just got to the Final Four like 3x faster than it took Calhoun. I mean I guess in a sense you're right, he's literally too good at his job to be in a close game.

Yeah… I had meant to include a smiley face after the close game remark. Hurley has done amazing job with this team.

Sorry for jumping on it, I am currently in "will die for this man" mode with Hurley for obvious reasons.

As are we all on this glorious morning :)

No it’s ok. I usually don’t post at 3 am. Yes let’s enjoy this moment at least for the next 6 days.

Saturday's game is going to fascinating. Great guard play from Miami (do they start 4 of them??) against our big size advantage. I would think our size will devour them inside and if Hawkins is on his game early from the outside, it could be lights out.

Yet if the Miami guards get hot early look out. And we've seen with the Texas game, you can't count them out.

I'm assuming the winner of this game wins it all, but we'll see.
