Areas that can use improving: First, third, bullpen.

First base
What do the Yankees do about first base? The Athletic has a story up this morning suggesting that the Yankees could/should go after Paul Goldschmidt.

While that seems like a fun fantasy baseball move, I'm not sure what to do about Rizzo.

He's still providing a good glove at first, but his bat is a wet noodle these days. I have a very hard time seeing them benching Rizzo, but maybe they will be cut throat since this is the best team in awhile.

Third base
I don't actually think they will do anything here. DJLM is going to get his chance to hold that job down all summer, is my assumption.

Bullpen
Blake and company have been brilliant at turning players like Tonkin and Weaver into lights out relievers, but I think this is still a place they could use some depth in.

One thing to keep an eye on is that Cashman likes to look ahead when possible, and they have many relievers hitting FA this winter:

Holmes
Kahnle
Loaisiga
Ferguson

They have put some guys in place who are under control longer:

Hamilton
Weaver
Tonkin
Gonzalez
Marinaccio
Burdi

But this is all in flux.

As for 1B, Ben Rice is ready, Agustin Ramirez is maybe ready and on the 40 man already, they do have internal options to try. 2B/3B is more of a mess but they'll probably hope to get Berti back and piece it together from there.

Something else to remember is that Cashman does not like messing with the chemistry of a team going well. In 2015, NY had a 6 game lead in the division at the deadline, Cashman didn't want to mess with that. TOR traded for David Price and went flying by NY, 53-51 at the deadline and 40-18 after that, to win the division by 6 games.

Rizzo to Goldschmidt is not super exciting (Goldschmidt's K rate has gone up the last 2 years in a row and he's been barely better than Rizzo this year), but maybe if there was barely any other cost to the deal it would be worth it. In the absence of better alternatives. Just going to Ben Rice might be a better alternative.

Yeah that Athletic article was terrible, but to be fair, I think it's harder to guess Cashman's upcoming moves than it's ever been.

Think there's any way NY could get MIN to sell high on Royce Lewis for 3B before he gets hurt again?

Soto does loom over future Yankee decisions, but that's not a trading deadline topic.

Yeah, not a trade deadline thing, more of an emergency fill-in thing.

Groshans was a waiver pickup this winter who couldn't even stick in AAA for NY, he was in AA.

Davis is an interesting emergency fill-in, he can play adequate 1B, less than adequate 3B and he hits lefties well, which is good in the short-term as NY is scheduled to face a bunch this week.

This thread is so quiet. Not even rumors. I'm guessing everyone wants Dominguez?

At this point I'm just hoping for some modest bullpen help.

The team is giving us nothing to care about right now. They are a contender without any fight in them. They need a whole new offense.

A lot seems to be riding on Stanton and Dominguez coming back soon and performing well. With Volpe and Wells showing some life, along with Judge and Soto just being themselves, I think that could be enough. But of course those two performing well when they get back isn't guaranteed.

We'll see what happens. Of the guys struggling the most right now (Rice. Verdugo, Gleyber, DJ), I think maybe Rice will get back on track the fastest once those other guys come back and ease the pressure on the lineup. He's pressing and trying to do too much, but his plate judgement doesn't look too bad.

NY really doesn't have a lot of excess prospect capital to give away, maybe they will trade Gleyber to SEA and trade for Jonathan India to replace him.

The one thing I am (fairly) sure about is that Cashman won't give up any prospects he cares about for a rental, any trade like that will be for guys who can hopefully help fix problems going forward.

I'm not worried about Cashman dealing Dominguez since the Yankees need him as much as anyone right now, and certainly not for a rental.

I'm a little worried about Jones getting traded for a rental. Not a lot, just a little.

I'm glad that isn't the kind of thing Cashman usual does, but I'm a little more concerned than usual.

Could pull a Montgomery and trade Nestor

I think they definitely could trade Nestor with a year and two months left on his deal, but their current SP depth is a bit dubious. Once Schmidt comes back they'll be OK again, but until then it's shaky and even more so if anyone gets hurt.

Paredes seems like not the best fit for y'all? But if they ever find his left handed doppelganger Cashman should probably sign him for life.

Yeah, he isn't a perfect fit for the stadium. But at this point, .250 might as well be the new .300 for hitters it seems. At least for Yankees hitters.

He'd be useful, but the price from Tampa will be too high anyway.

Verdugo and Gleyber are both upcoming FAs who there is zero chance NY will want to keep, so much like Gallo in the same situation, maybe NY can move them both in what looks like a very strong sellers market. Anyone they add they will need to clear space for, not just the roster but their role, gonna be an interesting week. DJ LMAO* has a full no-trade but NY would have to DFA him anyway, no one is going near that deal.

I could see NY trading for Jazz Chisholm and putting him at 2B while dealing Gleyber, he is supposedly an issue in the clubhouse which I think NY can handle and which should keep his price down a bit.

Chisholm would be another lefty bat and I wouldn't be worried about the clubhouse stuff either. Wouldn't mind seeing Tanner Scott in a deal too.

Two extra years of control for Chisholm and Scott would be a rental. Would be wonderful if Verdugo and Gleyber could be moved for some extra trade pieces to help make it happen. Seems unlikely, but a man can dream.

Chisholm is controlled through 2026, so that fills 2B for next year. They really really really need to trade Gleyber now, Verdugo too maybe.

Agustin Ramirez is one of them, damn. To be fair, he didn't really have a position for NY, with Wells at C and Rice maybe at 1B.

That's why they didn't bring up Ramirez for DH ABs when Stanton went down, they didn't want him possibly exposed because they planned to deal him, I guess.

Really like the Jazz move for the Yankees. Fun player and adds some needed speed.

I expect another big prospect - 2 1/3 seasons for Jazz shouldn’t be cheap.
I think the name is more exciting than the reality, also he gets dinged a bit because there are lots of reports of him being a clubhouse issue (not worried about this in NY).

Chisholm's DRS was modestly on the plus side when he last played 2B. Very much a negative in the OF. He's got to be an upgrade at 2B from Gleyber, who is not great to say the least.

Serna is talented but still in high A and needs to be added to the 40 man this winter.

The rumor is that Tyler Hardman is the third prospect in which case I really like the Chisholm move.

Could be Verdugo also, but all of this is tricky with an actual game starting in a couple of hours.

I saw Heyman come down on Verdugo recently, but I hadn't heard that they've soured on him enough to dump him

He is awful and a pending FA, there is zero chance they are keeping him so makes sense to get some value back for him now.

Same thing with Gleyber, word for word.
