The haps with Naps

I'm not suggesting hitting the panic button by any stretch, but I'm curious to hear if folks are seeing anything in Naps' approach or mechanics to warrant concern at this early stage, beyond my crude observation that he's out of synch.  Napoli was the player I was arguably most excited to see coming out of the gates this season following his surgery and his great spring.  The SSS, of course, along with his general streakiness give me plenty of confidence that 0 -17 will be a drop in the bucket when all is said and done.  I still believe he's poised to put up big numbers this year.

That said, I didn't see many of his at bats this spring, but I've seen almost all of them this past week.  By no means does he look "lost," but he does seem to have been late on a fair number of pitches he hasn't driven the ball with much authority.  I can't help but wonder if the days off following the last spring break game and being forced to sit in Philly threw him off a bit, but for those who watched him more closely during the spring games, does anything stand out in comparison to his recent plate appearances?

Doesn't weather play a part? ST was in FL and now they're playing in mostly miserable weather - that's got to be a factor.

People like to forget in their endless analysis of Sandoval that Napoli is a streaky hitter as well. Hopefully Tanaka throws him a meatball in a fastball count...again.

Pitchers in ST are mostly working on their stuff versus heavy game planning on getting specific guys out. You are also facing a fair amount of minor league arms. It might just take Nap a few weeks to adjust.

just a guess, but the weather (as noted by others) and starting season in NL park that took him out of normal routine could be factors. Let's see how he's doing in a few weeks.

This more than anything else.  He strikes out a lot and we lose our minds.  He is a beast and says he feels better than ever after his surgery. I'm confident that he, Papi and Pablo will all get going and then watch the fuck out. FFS, we are 4-1 without those guys adding a lot. Just wait.

He's very streaky but I do expect him to be better this year than last because of the sleep apnea surgery.

If he doesn't break out of it tonight, I think seeing Fenway again will get him going.

correct.  I think Justin Masterson has as many RBI as Ortiz and Napoli combined.  I am guessing that will change soon.

Nap's not alone. Robinson Cano was 0 - 13 against the As this weekend and is overall .120/.120/.200
Manny Machado, too. Was 0-15 before today, got a groundball single.
