Hope you guys dont mind me starting this for us to log our ramblings.

Time to get your rest, have a nice long stretch, and get ready for the marathon known as the NBA playoffs.

Can this also serve as the gambling thread? HRB is with me on the thunder plus money in game one and -135 for the series. Any other value in this sht 1st round?

I know the spurs are dogS on the road. But is there any chance at all in them pulling the upset? (Yes, im a degenerate)

I am not a gambler but I am going to be mainlining this shit into my eyeholes every single night. The first round is my absolute favorite thing in sports.

The Spurs are always a threat to pull an upset because Pop can win with two G-leaguers, a 86 year old Euroleague veteran, a former star who is now a cast-off, some random rotation player and a bunch of role players created from bailing wire and duct tape.

Also, I think the Blazers might surprise people vs the Thunder, especially if PG13's shoulder woes continue or worsen. Cameron...er, Terry Stotts is also capable of outcoaching Donovan. If Nurkic were still playing, I would be all in on Portland. Enes Kanter not-so-much...

Orlando won't beat Toronto but they may give them a hard time.

Houston vs Utah should be great, the Nets vs 76ers should be entertaining and even the Clippers will probably push the Warriors a touch even if GS ends the series in five.

The one series I don't care much about is the Piston at Bucks. Milwaukee is going to annihilate Detroit imho.

Dude, if the clippers win a game, they should hang a banner.

Also, I'd be concerned of Bev injuring Steph.

You must have gotten a really early line on the Thunder series because it was -158 at one of my books and -180 at the other. I did take some action at -158 and also the Nuggets at -230.

I saw it open at -130 and has been skyrocketing ever since.

GSW -50,000 to get to 2nd round. If I lived near a sports book, I'd lay down $100 on Clippers because something fluky like suspensions could always happen. https://sports.yahoo.com/clippers-warriors-vegas-odds-nba-playoffs-first-round-003038668.html

No one has put any $ on GSW.
How could you bet on GSW with those odds? I mean, laying out 50k to win 100 bucks is impossible to do. If you've got 50k laying around to make that bet, a 100 dollar win doesn't really move the needle.

I'm betting $50 on the Warriors to win ten cents.

You’d be wiser to put that 50k into a savings account for a week or two and earn the same ROI without the risk.
If you could find an account that earned 3% interest, that account would pay $1500 a year - or $4.11 a day.

If GSW swept, you would have earned less than $33 of interest. Even if the series went 7 games - and imagine how hard you'd be sweating if it did, you'd only earn $61.00 in interest.

I don't have $50K to throw around but the math above is the same math (although admittedly with less return) by which "bridge jumpers" will drop $100K on a horse to show under certain circumstances.

Of course they are called "bridge jumpers" for a reason.

P.S. If anyone really has $50K to use this way, I'd recommend them investing in tax-exempt bond mutual fund.

But then you’d be deprived the pleasure of extra skin in the game for Warriors vs. their rival Clippers, still the last team to eliminate them from the playoffs without intercession from Adam Silver and Kiki Vandeweghe...

Seriously, those odds — biggest underdog since 1988? — make no sense to me. These Clips are far from the worst 8 seed in that time period, and these Ws far from the best 1 seed.

Embiid has gone to the line every time he's touched the ball.

It's unwatchable.
They were all pretty clear fouls. He has a huge physical and skill advantage over all of the Nets centers, and that leads to fouls.

The flipside is that the he's clearly out of shape, and once the Nets stopped biting on pump fakes, he hasn't been able to summon enough energy to work them inside and get to the line.

This is shaping up to be a possibly interesting series, just because Philly is so incoherent.

Don't worry, Scott Foster is out there to keep things in line.
A real head-scratcher as to why the association lets this guy officate without a seeing eye dog, let along tout that he was selected as an "elite" playoff offical.

The lack of shooting is really, really exploitable, and Brooklyn is scheming and helping well.

Nets are also unsustainably hot from 3, but there might be something real here.
Oh I think the Nets have the weapons and the coaching to pull an upset. I think Philly will win but a Nets series win wouldn't be a shock at all.

Embiid to the locker room. Jared Dudley and Boban playing the key minutes of a high-leverage series is hilarious and fun to watch.

Philly would be down by 20+ if not for rebounding every single one of their own misses. Really, really wacky game, loving it.

Let's see how long Embiid is allowed to camp in the paint on defense before they call 3 seconds.

Is there any way we could establish a culture in here for the gamethreads of actually talking about the games, instead of making everything reftalk? I get it with the Celtics gamethreads (I do it too, it's emotional), but for the more neutral games it gets really old.

This game is going to come down to whether DLo and Dinwiddie can keep scoring versus whether JButt can will his team back into it.

Also Embiid's fitness--he simply hasn't been able to punish the Nets for playing Ed Davis a lot of the game. The Sixers lack of shooting is also letting the Nets go to zone at times, and really muck up the lane at others.

This game is why I'm really skeptical of Ben Simmons, despite his ridiculous talent and feel for the game.

You’re also welcome to just ignore any ref talk comments. It’s part of the game and if people want to discuss it, I see no reason to try to police it.

Agreed. I should also include LeVert who is also giving Philadelphia the business offensively.

Gosh I love the Embiid/Simmons core.

Still can’t believe they never entertained moving Simmons.

I feel like he's a rich man's Lonzo Ball: can kill you in transition, plays some defense, grabs some rebounds, but his lack of a shot just means he's very limited in a half court offense, especially in the playoffs when everyone is locked in. Tough to play in today's pace-and-space game when your lead ball handler isn't a threat to shoot.

Such a contrast in styles, Philly dominating the boards and the interior, 11 blocked shots, but the Nets are so much quicker and are so much better on the perimeter. Dudley at the 5 is not something I expected to see.

Atkinson has done a great job quickly feeling out what works, and Dudley has been really excellent at helping off non-shooters and mucking up plays, which makes up for his lack of "being able to move at all."

Every time there's a fan shot I think "that guy is so Philly". What a bunch of tools.

First game fluke or the nets have a real shot?

If Dlo is going to get this type of help, they might be in for a long series.

Real shot. Embiid's conditioning is shit, Simmons can be schemed out of the game, and Tobias Harris has been a total non-factor.

This is not a fluke. Philly has trouble scoring and the Nets three-headed attack of DLo, Dinwiddie and LeVert is almost impossible for Philly to stop.
