Thanks, I put an order in, and will have to see if it goes through when I pick up at the store.
I can confirm that the Micro Center $10 discount code works on items less than $50. I bought a $12 fan for $2.

Nick Kaufman said:Question. I want to buy a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit license. On Newegg and Amazon, the price I find ranges from $100-110 to $130.
On ebay however and on some other websites, I find some other deals that are significantly cheaper. One on Ebay has it on sale for $70. Another just sells the key for $36. Those seem questionable to me.
Does anyone any idea what's the catch with all those sales. What would the cheapest legitimate way to buy a license?

As you can see, they ve sold a shit ton of these and they have great feedback, plus, you know, ebay still alow them to sell it. I have pmed them a set of question , I ll tell you when they get back to me.
This is what I find on google shopping:

While the seller is selling a genuine Microsoft product, most individuals will not be able to use it. The requirements by Microsoft to activate this product with the included Certificate of Authenticity are that you are a member of Microsoft's refurbisher program. In order to become a member, you are required to register a BUSINESS that will be refurbishing the computer. Microsoft will not register an individual. Most people have not heard of Microsoft's refurbisher program. The page selling this item plainly displays a COA with a normal Product key on it. The included COA I received only had a serial number, therefore I would have to activate it through the refurbisher program. The Product Description and Product Features section of the page stated where to find the Product key, indicating that the Product key would be included. The page was designed to indicate that any individual would have everything needed to activate this copy of windows, but this isn't true. I contacted the seller and he apologized, but stated that the page plainly stated that only a Microsoft refurbisher would be able to activate this product. I had intended to let it go, but still needing a legal copy of windows, I looked on a popular auction site. All the lowest priced copies of Windows 7 pro were also "Intended for distribution with a refurbished PC". Every single one of these pages indicated that a Product key would be included. My further reading indicated that some COA's for refurbished PC software would have the Product key on the COA, but mainly the refurbisher was responsible for including the key with the computer after getting it from Microsoft during the activation process. After reading all of this info, I was convinced that I had been mislead on purpose. I have requested that I be able to return this for a refund and it was authorized. If you are an authorized or listed system refurbisher, this version of Windows is fine, but unless you are willing to jump through all of Microsoft's hoops to get it activated, then please don't buy a copy of Windows "intended to be distributed with a refurbished PC".
Nick Kaufman said:It is a great deal considering it also gives free upgrade to Windows 10. I have come across an Amazon review however which says you need to be a registered business with microsoft otherwise, you can't activate it.
Couperin47 said:
That explains it, they are not furnishing a completed COA, which would alert MS exactly who sold this. There are ways to activate, but it would not be with a legit key...so it's a scam if you want a truly legit copy.
MS has already announced that 'upgrade to 10' will be free for at least 1 year from ANY legit copy of 7, 8 or 8.1 (after that no prices have been even suggested). As it stands there's a fair shot 10 may actually be worth considering as they are correcting most of the idiocy of 8, and besides Classic Shell is already developed to work with the betas of 10, have yet to hear of the 'gotcha' that will make 10 unpalatable.
Nick, do you want the Win 7 license for a completely new build or for a VM install, or is it something else like your existing Win 7 PC needs repair?
. Old Win 7 disk = hard drive or CD-ROM disc?Nick Kaufman said:
I actually have a VM installation for some time now and I just put my old Win 7 disk on a laptop that ran Windows XP.
Nick Kaufman said:
Yeah, the thing is those guys at ebay have more than 700 positive feedback and I doubt all of those people hold a refurbishing license.
Windows 10 seems legit to me. I ve actually downloaded it when it came out and it seemed fine to me, although I didn't see a killer app that would want me to upgrade from Windows 7 immediately. I did do a Win 8 installation a couple of months ago and it was as bad as people said it was. Windows 8 was indeed counterproductive for the desktop usage. Windows 8.1 made it useable again. But all in all, you basically had to spend a good chunk of time in order to figure out what was going on and then try to mold it back to your liking.

Harry Hooper said:So what is the problem you are trying to solve. Did the Win 7 install on the old hard drive lose its "activated" status when moved to the laptop?
That's what Classic Shell does, once you wade thru it's configuration, you wind up with exactly the combo of XP and/or Win 7 features and look you find most comfortable.

Yeah, you do and yet get annoying popups, you lose your wallapaper etc.

Actually, I shelled the big bucks for Start8. :buddy: But still, there was a time consuming learning curve that was unnecessary.

You can recover the Win 7 license keycode from that hard drive via Magical Jelly Bean. Of course, if you had a manufacturer-supplied keycode from the original PC (e.g., an HP) and you've "crossed the streams" and put it into a different manufacturer's laptop (e.g., Dell), that keycode likely won't successfully activate. If it's a retail/generic keycode, you should be fine. If you don't have the CD-ROM disc for Win 7, you can even download the .ISO file from Microsoft now.

Yes it's just Home Premium and the McAfee is useless shit and it does involve a whopping $70 rebate...
Nick Kaufman said:
No, I have the license and the original dvd. The licence is valid for my desktop though, it won't work on the laptop at the same time.
Yes, that would be neat if there was a wholesale package for the pro version.
Nick Kaufman said:Ok, just talked to the guy, he confirmed the software is part of the refurbishing program, but he assured me that it's going to work regardless and if there's an issue, he ll either clear this up with microsoft or give me another product key.
I think it's legit.

just how many hoops are you willing to jump thru to save $9 ? It's $70 at Amazon....
Harry Hooper said:Today Only, TigerDirect has the Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD for $99.99 (after $20 rebate). The $10 off $100 purchase coupon I linked above a few days back should shave it down to $89.99.
Harry Hooper said:Crucial.com sells refurb 128GB SSDs for $49.99 with 1-year warranty. They'll likely trim that price soon.
