Oh, Berti, not Burdi, confusing! DJ should be back any day for that spot, I think.

Marinaccio has been very good in AAA so far, three outings for a combined 5 1 0 0 1 4. He last pitched on Wednesday.

Some great ABs to work three walks, plus some nice two strike hitting from Rizzo to choke up and flip a single into center. Also some big help from the Guardians to get zero outs from a double play ball.

Great work from Poteet so far. Am I wrong in thinking his repertoire is a little similar to Jordan Montgomery?

A right-handed 70% version of Monty for cheap would be kind of awesome.

Yeah, Poteet is making a serious statement, one more out here please.

I wrote here on Jan 4:

"Signed Cody Poteet to a major league deal. Poteet is 29 and pitched for the Marlins in 2021 and 2022 before having Tommy John surgery in Aug 2022. He has options remaining and they will likely try to stretch him out in AAA for SP depth.

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/01/yankees-sign-cody-poteet-to-major-league-deal.html

When Cole went out in mid-March, Bryan Hoch (usually well sourced) wrote that Poteet was the most likely to be the #5, which I didn't really understand then but now I do. He is clearly ahead of Will Warren on the current depth chart, Warren has pitched in some bad weather but Poteet looks great.

Through 6! Just 77 pitches, this helps the whole staff so much, he got through the top of the order the third time (!!!). The Florial HR went just 365 also, I do usually root against ex-Yankees but I hope Florial has some success, he is still just 26.

Verdugo is starting to get comfortable, I can't wait for Austin Wells to start hitting (he will). He has hit so many long fly balls that will go out in warmer weather.

Volpe looks so far like he made a deal with Satan this winter, "yeah, just let me hit like Jeter for the rest of my career and you can do whatever after that".

Poteet out after 6, he was not super stretched out.

6 6 1 1 0 4 on 77 pitches.

And Santana comes in and immediately walks the first guy, CLE's first walk of the night.

Poteet was pounding the zone with five different pitches, CLE seemed to really have trouble squaring him up. Very impressive 27th man appearance!!!

In AAA simultaneously to this game, Beeter just dominated the best lineup in the minors (Norfolk/BAL) for five innings, 5 1 0 0 0 8 on 79 pitches.

Nice job by Santana, good chance for Marinaccio to get his feet wet again if he is here and available.

This is a very focused team right now. That is their fifth series win in a row to start the season, only the third Yankee team ever to do that (1926, 2010).

Also nice to see Marinaccio back! He could jump up the trusted list again very quickly if he is back to old form, the HR there went just 360 feet in a 8-1 game on a 1st pitch.

I'll tell you who should make Montgomery level money is Matt Blake, that man is a sorcerer. I still can't really believe what I just saw from Poteet and when you combine that with Beeter in AAA tonight against Norfolk and Trystan Vrieling in AA, very exciting night for Yankee pitching.

Poteet threw only six curves, his fifth most used pitch tonight, but those six went for 3-3 including the HR. I'd maybe cut that one out of the repertoire next time, as CLE batters went 3-20 against the other four pitches combined.

NY did not need to use Gil in relief, so he'll start Monday in TOR.

Absolutely.

Blake's impact can't be overstated. He is so good and has been so dependable at finding and developing pitchers (along with a scouting staff locked into what he is looking for) that Cashman has tremendous flexibility at the organizational level. Trading for Soto and eventually being able to offer the monster contract that he deserves probably doesn't happen if Blake didn't build a dependable pipeline of cheap young pitching talent. And obviously it goes beyond Soto.

Keep that man happy, Brian.
