I wonder if the umps are alerted to the violations or if they're going to be keeping track of it themselves. I see a future of game threads chock full of "The clock hit double zero!!!" exclamations, much like when a center snaps the ball at zero.

I'm not sure who it was, maybe Ron Darling, but I'm pretty sure I heard a Mets broadcaster this afternoon accidentally refer to Miami's new center fielder as Chaz Jizholm.
Per the radio telecast today, the umps apparently have some kind of buzzer system tied to the pitch clock.
Just a manager-umpire dick-measuring contest, but what struck me was the composition of the four-man ump crew

MLBN just happened to drop in on the broadcast about 15 seconds before he said it. I was on my way out, but still had to laugh about it later and posted it here without realizing it had gone viral and was already being discussed in the other forum.
I @#%&'n hate Hernandez, so it figures it was him. This might not even be the dumbest thing I've heard him say during a broadcast. Several years ago I was flipping between games and stopped on a Mets game just in time to hear some guy talking about how you reach a point in your career where you know you no longer have the ability or desire to put in the work and come back from injury, but he had just gotten a good contract and wasn't about to walk away from it. I mean contracts are contracts, but I was wondering "Who is this asshole freely admitting he didn't put in an ounce of effort during his last contract?" It was the way he showed no shame or regret as he kept going. Then I realized it was Hernandez talking about the $3.5M he stole from Cleveland.

That seems unrealistic. Who’s gonna walk away from that much money, especially after what the game evidently did to his body. He was a top pro athlete, I’m sure he didn’t love losing the passion that guided him since childhood and it’s very cool and human of him to talk about it.
Guess you had to live through it. As I said, a contract is a contract, I don't expect a player to give the money back, but Hernandez was the world's biggest ass during his "two" years in Cleveland. They were a young team looking for the veteran leadership they needed and instead got someone who clearly wasn't interested in getting back on the field. They had to eat his final year... and he pretty much laughs that he got paid for doing nothing. The only veteran at the end of his career in Cleveland that handled it worse was Jack Morris, who thought he deserved to go live on his ranch between starts and eventually went AWOL before getting released.
It’s getting easier to just keep the list of teams that don’t have Rays pedigree folks in senior positions in the organization.

Dave Roberts said Gavin Lux is going to get an MRI on his right knee. He said Lux told him he heard something pop. Not a lot is known at the moment.

If Lux is out any significant time, Miguel Rojas is presumably the starting SS. This year's dodgers are vulnerable.
Not sure how they picked the two half-innings, but wow! Seeing the batter "warm up swing" 9 times while in the box was pretty telling.

The Braves will likely use this unfortunate injury as a negotiating point the next time that they want to lock up a young player to a long term under market deal.
Ricky Tiedemann is likely to be a stud for the Jays sometime within the next year. Sure didn't disappoint today.
Pirates/Orioles wanted to play the bottom of the ninth but the umpires left the field. So they played without umpires. The catcher called balls/strikes on the honor system apparently.

Fucking ump show. Have a banner spring, what with this and the CB Bucknor shit from the other day.
The umps are supposed to stick around for an unnecessary bottom of the ninth with the home (batting) team already leading? There's plenty to bag on umps for, I don't think this ranks very high.
I don't really care either way with the umps, but this made me laugh. Spring Training is literally entirely about scrimmages.
My understanding was that if the teams chose to finish the game, the umps had to stay (and I thought it had happened before). I was wrong and I stand corrected. I will leave my unrighteous indignation for the world to see the moron that I am.
They're actual games that follow MLB rules. They're not ad hoc sort of organized games. Reds is right- there's plenty to criticize the umps for but this ain't one of them.
