Ain’t that the truth. I’ve been involved in the hobby the majority of my life, and this is the first time I’ve had to step back because none of it makes sense.
I took my SportsLots shop off from vacation, I went from having a few orders a month to a dozen a day. The same cards that sat around for years are doubling in price each day and I can’t even keep up with it. The same “meh” box I couldn’t get $60 for on EBay in February is $249 today.
It’s like everyone forgot the gamble was already priced into products. The same Product that was a gamble at a $149 msrp and likely to have a less than 50% roi now costs double at release, or x5 if basketball. It’s insane.
The only thing I buy now is retail, but it’s a small miracle to find anything on the shelves these days. I probably should be taking advantage by selling all the cards I’ve held on to over the years, but it’s a bit overwhelming, because like I said, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of logic to any of it. Or maybe im just theone that’s missing something, that I’m not excited to spend $800 on a pack of cards when Panini feels like printing money and creates a “Hyper Asian Exclusive Dew Drop Prizm” limited variation set.
