Here is a link to an interview with Pedro today on EEI. It speaks exactly to what I am trying to get to.
Look, I love Pedro as much as the next guy and I'm sure I'd listen to him all day every day, but first he says that Buch has to get to the video room to understand himself the best and then he has to get to the video room to look at other pitchers and their mechanics but then it's not really about mechanics, it's about being able to focus for every pitch. . . .

And I'm sure if Pedro were able to keep going, he'd talk about being in top shape and giving 110% and tuning out all the distractions and probably fifteen other things.

If I were Buch, the Pitch FX data that tells me that release point isn't consistent is probably more helpful than what Pedro suggested.

Clay Buchholz has been at times one of the top starting pitchers in the AL. He has in the past shown to have exactly that mental fortitude and toughness that you apparently think is beyond him. Also, while he's certainly not a top starting pitcher this year, I find it impossible to understand how you can say with complete certainty that he hasn't been trying out different mechanics in response to some of his past injuries or that he still is bothered by physical reasons that prevent him from finding the feel on his pitches. And maybe, just maybe, there is something in his life that is preventing him from finding the complete focus (like Damon's divorce). Or, perhaps he just can't spin the ball like he used to.

Whatever the reason, I hope Clay figures it out and I'm not going to harp on him "becoming mentally tougher" until we really have more information than we do know, which may never happen.

Huh? How about hit the f'ing mitt where he puts it? You don't need reputation as a catcher for that. He's a disaster and it's beyond a pep talk on the mound at this point.

He's not just nodding and throwing to the mitt. He's shaking Vazquez off half a dozen times on every damn pitch. (Then he's missing the mitt.)

The alternating good and bad seasons makes one wonder what his offseason routine looks like. How much work is he putting in, how prepared is he for each season? Granted, he's had some injuries, but he seems to lack the endurance and stamina to stay healthy and effective for an entire season. To go from as great as he was last year to as bad as this year is puzzling. Could join Lackey as pitchers who have finished first and last in ERA, right?

In 2012, though, he was bad the first half and good the second half.
